  • Despite showing guilt towards Shoto, Dabi feels no remorse for the lives he took to achieve his goals.

As a fervent fan, I can’t help but delve into the chilling actions of Dabi from the League of Villains. His history is riddled with atrocities, particularly towards his own family and the innocent. Remarkably, his relentless drive and obsessions mirror that of Endeavor in their unwavering pursuit of objectives, regardless of the toll it takes on people or the price they pay.

Over the course of the “My Hero Academia” series, I’ve noticed several times when Dabi is confronted about whether he feels regret or guilt over his deeds. As a prominent figure within the League, Dabi stands out as one who may have caused the most deaths. Unlike some members who seem to maintain a semblance of normality and acknowledge the immorality of certain actions, Dabi appears to revel in wicked acts and devises cunning strategies that align with his ultimate goals. However, during the entire series, particularly after the Final War, has there been any moment when Dabi showed remorse for his actions?

Dabi’s Irredeemable Actions as a Villain

Dabi Has Always Been a “Spare Part” With No One to Acknowledge His Identity

Toya Todoroki, the oldest child of renowned Pro Hero Endeavor, has always looked up to his father and aspired to follow in his footsteps, even aiming to surpass him as the top Pro Hero. Yet, Endeavor’s relentless pursuit of becoming the Number 1 Hero brought strain within their family. Due to Toya’s fragile constitution, caused by his mother’s Frost Quirk, it was challenging for him to pursue a career as a Pro Hero because his own fire would harm him instead.

Nevertheless, an unyielding passion for heroism drove Dabi to perfect his abilities, resulting in a fiercer flame. Regrettably, this intensity had almost cost him his life 11 years ago at Sekoto Peak. After spending three years recuperating, Dabi yearned to reconnect with his family and home. Sadly, he found the same distressing situation that he had known before, being subjected to his father’s abuse. Upon returning, he discovered they had moved on and welcomed Todoroki Shoto, a “designer baby” born from the arranged Quirk marriage between his father, Endeavor, and mother, Rei, into their lives instead.

Ever since the day… that Toya died and Dabi was born!!

Following a sense of neglect from his kin, Toya transformed into Dabi, propelled by an urge for retribution against those who left him behind. At first, he was rescued as a contingency plan for All For One; fortunately, his manipulations on Shigaraki Tomura weren’t successful. Regrettably, like his own family, Dabi turned out to be another unsuccessful endeavor. Being the offspring of parents with unique traits, Dabi’s flames caused him harm, making extended use almost impossible – a crucial requirement for all heroes. All For One and Dr. Garaki even offered Dabi membership in their “family” as a potential vessel for the Demon King, but he failed yet again. As his animosity deepened and intensified, it fueled his will to live, leading Dabi to slaughter heroes and anyone who dared oppose him.

Dabi’s Actions in an Attempt to Make Endeavor Acknowledge Him

During Dabi’s tenure as a villain, he carried out atrocious acts. Deep within him, Dabi yearned for his father to recognize and acknowledge him. Since it was common knowledge among the children about their father’s dreams and aspirations, Toya was the first to be inspired by this ambition. Unfortunately, once he discovered his own physical condition, this aspiration would not last long.

In the story of My Hero Academia, due to being surpassed by Shoto, Dabi eventually resorted to murdering at least 30 individuals, both heroes and villains. Quirks in this universe are genetically passed down, which is why arranged Quirk marriages exist, despite being socially unacceptable. In Chapter 160, Snatch hints at the discovery of charred bodies, and Dabi admits to these crimes. Throughout the series, Dabi has consistently pushed his limits to display his enhanced Quirk and Blue Flames, but it wasn’t until much later that Endeavor and Shoto realized that Toya, who was thought to be dead, was actually Dabi.

In Chapter 190, for the first time, Dabi unveils his Blue Flames to Endeavor, possibly hoping for a response from his father and testing whether he would recognize Dabi as Toya. However, Endeavor responds differently, questioning if Dabi was responsible for Snatch’s death. Earlier, Dabi had shown no regret for the lives he took, focusing solely on his revenge against his father. But at the end of Chapter 191, a rare moment of emotion strikes Dabi as he recalls Hero Snatch, whom he had killed before. Tears of blood flow from one of his wounds around his eyes as he reflects upon Snatch’s final words.

In essence, Dabi showed no regret over Snatch’s demise. Instead, it was the questions about whether he had ever considered the plight of the victim’s families that struck a chord with him. This may be connected to his belief that he himself was overlooked, as his family seemed to move on without him after they presumed him dead. Similarly, Toya often wept when interacting with his kin, feeling they failed to appreciate or grasp him. Regardless of the countless lives Dabi has taken, he exhibited no remorse for these actions, viewing them as obstacles in his path towards his ultimate ambition.

You ever stop and think about the families who gotta live with that loss?!

Did Dabi Feel Remorse For His Actions?

Dabi’s Actions Towards His Family

Arc Endeavor Agency
Chapters 241 – 252
Season 5

In his quest for revenge against his father, Dabi didn’t limit himself to just one action. After Endeavor ascended to the position of Number 1 Pro Hero, he dispatched Starservant after him. However, Endeavor retaliated by targeting Natsuo, Dabi’s younger brother, in a bid to force Endeavor into killing him. Throughout this, Dabi’s objectives have always been Endeavor and Shoto. But Shoto served as a tool that would allow Dabi to exact his revenge on his father by stripping him of his “masterpiece.

In Chapter 290, titled “Dabi’s Dance,” we find that despite the potential danger to Natsuo’s life, Dabi showed no regret for his actions. His primary motivation was causing pain to Endeavor and damaging his career. This desire to inflict suffering on his father led him to commit any deed, even those that were heinous as a villain. In this chapter, he openly confesses to the numerous atrocities he has perpetrated, including the killing of 30 innocent people. Yet, when Endeavor showed shock at this revelation, Dabi danced with joy, clearly demonstrating his lack of remorse for his actions.

Dabi’s Feelings Towards Shoto

Earlier on, Dabi displayed no hint of regret for anything he had done. But following the Final War, when the Todoroki Family overpowered him, there was a shift in his behavior. After the conflict, Toya received medical care and his family paid him visits. Although he maintained a hard stance against forgiving them for their past actions, saying they were past due for an apology, his encounters with Shoto were noticeably different.

Despite Endeavor’s lifelong pursuit of atonement, which strained my heart, I couldn’t help but make him feel remorseful for his actions towards little Todoroki. It seemed like Toya might have felt that I was the only one truly acknowledging him, while the rest of the family merely apologized for their own mistakes. However, I was deeply curious about my older brother and took it upon myself to learn more about him.

After inquiring about his favorite food, though he was initially hesitant, Toya eventually revealed that he loved Soba. This simple revelation showed me that we shared more similarities than I had thought, bringing tears to his eyes as well as mine.

  • Toya acknowledges that he had committed “despicable acts,” but he blames these acts on his father.
  • Dabi also yearned for his father to recognize him and his flames. However, because the Endeavor Agency employs heat-based Quirk users, Endeavor could not make the connection.
  • Toya also admitted he spared no feelings for Natsuo, who might have died due to Endings’ attack.
  • Shoto was the only person Toya felt guilt about attacking.

For the first time during the series, Toya showed signs of regret for his actions by weeping and apologizing to Shoto, understanding that his sibling was not his enemy. Previously overlooked similarities between them, as both being trained by Endeavor, allowed a deeper bond to form. This realization prompted Toya to acknowledge and address his past mistakes, particularly the misdirected anger he held towards Shoto. While Toya didn’t feel remorse for his actions against others, he only felt guilt about his interactions with his brother.
