Gemma Chan, the actress known for her work in films like *Crazy Rich Asians*, *Eternals*, and *The Creator*, is joining the cast of the new video game, *007 First Light*. She’ll play Selina Tan, the head of tactical simulation for MI6, providing both her appearance and voice for the character. This marks the first time Chan has fully portrayed a video game character, though she previously did voice work for *Diablo 4*.
The new James Bond video game, *007 First Light*, will introduce a completely original story and characters. Players will meet Selina Tan, a character created specifically for the game, and experience a young James Bond – a 26-year-old MI6 recruit played by Patrick Gibson (known for his work as a young Dexter Morgan in *Dexter: Original Sin*). Developed by IO Interactive, the studio behind *Hitman*, the game promises a blend of stealth-focused action and a compelling cinematic narrative.
Gemma Chan Joins 007 First Light Cast
This month, the team behind the upcoming 007 game, *007 First Light*, announced several cast members, including Gemma Chan (known for her work in Marvel films). Chan will play Selina Tan, a high-ranking MI6 official who leads the agency’s training program for new recruits. The game already stars Patrick Gibson as James Bond, Priyanga Burford as M, and Kiera Lester as Moneypenny. Tan’s background is fascinating – she started as an academic with expertise in psychology and strategy, then moved into the tech world, leading research in immersive technologies, before ultimately joining MI6. Chan herself said being part of the James Bond universe in a video game has been a thrilling experience. Her character is responsible for overseeing and improving the skills of Britain’s best potential agents through realistic simulations.
The new James Bond game, *007 First Light*, boasts a strong cast, including Lennie James from *The Walking Dead* as Greenway. However, IO Interactive wants to assure fans that this isn’t just a rebranded *Hitman* game. In a recent interview, the studio confirmed they never planned to simply change the appearance of *Hitman* and sell it as a Bond title. Art director Rasmus Poulsen explained they took a completely new and creative direction designed specifically for the James Bond universe.
Although *007 First Light* isn’t scheduled to release until March 2026, a recent State of Play event offered a lengthy first look at the game. While fans appreciated the beautiful environments and gameplay, some felt the 30-minute demo didn’t showcase the game in the best light due to noticeable performance issues. With six months remaining before launch, players are optimistic that these problems will be fixed before the game is released.
