The release of <007 First Light> has been pushed back again, but only for players using the Nintendo Switch 2. While most gamers will soon be able to play the stealth action-adventure game, Switch 2 owners will have to wait at least a couple more months.
Despite a lot of great games coming out this year, 007 First Light is generating a lot of excitement for 2026 – and it has a lot to live up to. It’s been a while since a new James Bond game was released, and even longer since fans really loved one. Now that the talented team behind Hitman, IO Interactive, is developing it, expectations are high. Initial previews of First Light look good, but some players might find it’s not quite what they hoped for.
007 First Light Has Been Delayed on Switch 2 Until Summer 2026
The official Twitter account for the James Bond game, 007 First Light, announced on April 8th that the Nintendo Switch 2 version will be released sometime later this summer. While this isn’t the first delay for the game, it’s less significant than the previous one. Back in December 2025, the developers, IO Interactive, pushed back the release date on all platforms by two months to allow for more polishing and refinement. This latest delay suggests the Switch 2 version is taking extra time to reach the quality level of the other versions, and the team wants to ensure players have the best possible experience.
Fans have been waiting a long time for a new James Bond game. IO Interactive first announced they were working on one back in 2020, initially calling it Project 007. Considering the last Bond game released on consoles was 007 Legends in 2012, the six-year development period feels especially long. Thankfully, First Light is almost here and will launch before GTA 6, although players on the Switch 2 will have to wait a bit longer to join the action compared to those on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC.
The release date for the Switch 2 version of 007 First Light is still uncertain. While the developers are aiming for a release this summer, that timeframe is pretty broad, likely meaning the game will be available before the end of August or possibly in early September. It could even come out as early as June, but it’s hard to predict. Any significant delay would be frustrating, especially given the history between the 007 series and Nintendo consoles – many fans consider GoldenEye 007 to be both the best Bond game and one of the greatest games for the Nintendo 64.

It’s disappointing for Nintendo fans, but delays for Switch and Switch 2 games are fairly typical. Recently, Gearbox stopped working on the Switch 2 version of Borderlands 4 to focus on other problems. The Switch 2’s different design and less powerful hardware can make development more difficult, or companies might prioritize PlayStation 5, Xbox, and PC because of their larger audiences. Either way, those excited for the new Bond game from IO Interactive on the Switch 2 will likely have to wait a bit longer.
