IO Interactive (IOI) has announced that the release of 007 First Light will be delayed from March 27, 2026, but only by two months. While fans will have to wait a bit longer to play the new James Bond game, the delay isn’t significant.

IOI’s new game will explore the early days of James Bond as he becomes a spy for MI6. In 007 First Light, players will experience Bond’s dangerous journey to earn his 00 status and license to kill. Irish actor Patrick Gibson will voice the young Bond, and he’ll be joined by familiar faces from the 007 series, like Q and M, as well as new characters created by IO Interactive. At The Game Awards 2025, the game’s villain, Bawma, was revealed to be played by musician Lenny Kravitz.

The release date for 007 First Light has been pushed back from March 27, 2026, to May 27, 2026. IO Interactive CEO Hakan Abrak announced the two-month delay, explaining that while the game is currently playable from beginning to end, the extra time will allow the team to polish and improve the experience for fans. Abrak is confident this delay will result in a stronger, higher-quality game at launch. He promised more updates in early 2026 and thanked fans for their patience. Many fans responded positively, saying they’re happy to wait longer for a better game.

007 First Light’s New Release Date Is Slightly Ironic

It’s curious that the release date for 007 First Light (May 27th) was so close to the original release date for Grand Theft Auto 6 (May 26th). Rockstar Games later announced on November 6, 2025, that GTA 6 would be delayed again, moving its launch to November 19, 2026. Whether the initial March 27th release date for 007 First Light was intentionally planned around GTA 6‘s old date is unknown, but the fact that both highly anticipated games now arrive in November 2026 is a strange coincidence.

Currently, both 007 First Light and GTA 6 are scheduled to release six months apart. This means gamers will have time to enjoy 007 First Light and other games before GTA 6 comes out in November. The end of May 2026 is shaping up to be a busy time for gamers, with the release of 007 First Light, Paralives, The Relic: First Guardian, and LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight. We’ll have to wait and see what other games are planned for release in May 2026 as the year gets closer.

The James Bond movies are famous for their exciting action and spy themes, and IOI, the studio behind 007 First Light, has said they don’t want to simply copy their Hitman game formula. However, with two extra months of development time, it remains to be seen how IOI will use that opportunity.
