Look, I love a game I can really sink my teeth into, something massive that keeps me busy for ages. We see it with shooters like Destiny 2 – tons of gameplay for FPS fans. RPGs are the same way, with huge worlds and storylines. But it got me thinking, what other action games offer that kind of 100+ hour experience? I’m always on the lookout for the next big time sink!

It’s no surprise that finishing Nioh 2 takes a long time – it’s a very challenging game! Frequent deaths naturally add to the playtime. But that’s part of what makes games like this enjoyable, right?
What really makes Nioh 2 special isn’t just how challenging it is. The game offers a huge amount of content, drawing inspiration from many sources beyond the typical ‘Souls-like’ games.
This game combines everything you enjoy with beloved titles like FromSoftware’s games, Ninja Gaiden, and Diablo, setting it apart from other games in the Soulslike genre.
9. Diablo 4
It’s Good Now, I Promise!
Since we’re talking about Diablo, it’s worth mentioning the entire series. Diablo games are known for being incredibly immersive – you can easily lose hundreds of hours playing them, and Diablo 4 is no exception.
Honestly, this game has really leaned into the fast-paced action of action RPGs lately, and that’s a big reason why I think Diablo 4 deserves a spot on this list. It’s just become a much more action-packed experience.
Honestly, you really can’t go wrong with any of the recent Diablo games – Diablo 2, 3, or 4. They’re all excellent and still have lots of players, and Diablo 4 especially feels amazing to play.
8. Assassin’s Creed Odyssey

The Assassin’s Creed series has grown significantly with each new game. Originally a promising action-adventure title, it gradually started to resemble games like Grand Theft Auto, with the added element of playing as an assassin.
Ubisoft struggled with the Assassin’s Creed series for a while, leading to declining popularity. The franchise was revamped in 2017 and shifted towards action role-playing gameplay, reaching a high point with the release of Assassin’s Creed Odyssey.
This game improves on the previous one in a way that’s similar to the leap between Assassin’s Creed and Assassin’s Creed 2. Ubisoft has taken what players loved and polished the gameplay into a captivating and addictive experience.
7. Monster Hunter Wilds

Do you remember when everyone was really into Monster Hunter Wilds at the beginning of the year? It was a lot of fun!

Yakuza 0 is a fantastic game with a gripping story that follows the journeys of both Kazuma Kiryu and Goro Majima. It’s also a great place to start if you’re new to the Yakuza series, and the story will keep you invested for a long time.
That said, you’ll need to step away from all the extra things to do in the game.
Yakuza 0 offers a huge amount of content – it can feel overwhelming at first, but it’s incredibly rewarding. It’s a fantastic place to start with the Yakuza series, brimming with humor and acting as just a taste of what the franchise has to offer.
5. Hades 2
Second Verse, Same as the First
What’s great about roguelike games is that even if you finish the main story relatively quickly, you’ll likely spend many, many hours playing them overall.
Many games motivate you to improve with each playthrough, even if it’s just a small step forward. But Hades 2 offers even more reasons to keep playing beyond simply perfecting your skills.
Hades 2 is fun because of its fast-paced battles and the way each playthrough feels unique. You’re constantly discovering new weapons and abilities, and seeing how different combinations change up the experience. It’s all about experimenting and embracing the unpredictable nature of every run.
4. Final Fantasy VII: Rebirth
Lives Up to the Legacy
It still seems a bit strange that Square Enix split the Final Fantasy VII remake into three parts, particularly because the first game felt unnecessarily long. However, I’m starting to understand the overall plan with the second game, Rebirth.
Whether you prefer the old turn-based system or not, switching to real-time combat has significantly improved the game and feels like a great update to the classic style.
What really makes Rebirth stand out is how faithfully it adapts the original game. A common criticism of Remake was that it unnecessarily padded the story. Rebirth, however, finds a great sweet spot between staying true to the source and adding fresh content, and it makes me eager to dive into the conclusion of the trilogy for many hours to come.
3. Elden Ring

One of the things that makes Elden Ring so replayable is how open and free-flowing the game is.

Many open-world games today feel overly long and filled with pointless tasks. While a huge game world sounds great, it doesn’t matter if there’s nothing interesting to actually do or find within it.
Elden Ring doesn’t offer a typical open-world experience. It’s a world that truly rewards exploration, packed with secrets you’ll continue to uncover even after many playthroughs. Plus, it’s incredibly enjoyable, with endless possibilities for creating unique characters and trying different combat styles, ensuring every experience feels fresh.
2. Red Dead Redemption 2
Giddy Up
Even before Red Dead Redemption 2 came out, Rockstar Games had already established itself as a leader in open-world action games.
The team had already proven themselves with the classic Grand Theft Auto games on PlayStation 2, but the move to the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 really allowed them to showcase their abilities. Even with the more powerful hardware, some technical challenges remained.
Red Dead Redemption 2 really showcases the power of the Xbox One and PS4 with its vast and detailed open world. Paired with what many consider Rockstar’s greatest story, it’s easily one of the most incredible action games ever made. It’s amazing that players are still finding new secrets within the game after all this time!

It’s Gettin’ Ready to Drop
Red Dead Redemption is an amazing game, but Grand Theft Auto 5 still feels fresh and enjoyable even years later.
It’s frustrating that Rockstar continues to release versions of GTA 5 instead of a new game, GTA 6. However, a positive side is that the game can now utilize the capabilities of modern, more powerful gaming consoles and PCs.
Los Santos offers a huge amount of extra things to do, almost as much as in a game like Yakuza 0, which can feel overwhelming. If you’re not sure what to do, just driving around and enjoying the scenery is always fun. Alternatively, you can jump into GTA Online for endless activities.
