In this game, reminiscent of Minecraft, the universe is composed of modular units, allowing you to design your personal fortress according to your preferences. Although base construction has certain limitations, it’s been refined in the subsequent version. The combat may be rudimentary, but delving into the world and devising strategies to defeat colossal foes offers an enjoyable challenge.
Sometimes, monstrous attacks will breach your stronghold, heightening the intensity of battles since your cherished sanctuary might sustain harm during these assaults.
7. Dave the Diver
You’re Going To Need A Bigger Boat
There isn’t another game quite like “Dave the Diver” that seamlessly combines various gaming styles as skillfully as it does.
For those unfamiliar, your role is that of a sushi bar manager who sources ingredients from the Blue Hole Lagoon while diving with Dave the Diver, with each dive introducing a subtle change to the lagoon’s offerings.
The challenge lies in preparing exquisite meals using ingredients that are harder to come by, similar to how it’s not easy to catch a shark compared to a small fish. However, you’re in luck because there are numerous tools and enhancements available, and the 2D underwater fight sequences move fluidly.
Dave, the diver, doesn’t hold back on humor and offers an engaging story, making it an excellent pick if you’re seeking a humorous, immersive single-player experience with a heartwarming narrative.
6. Rune Factory 4 Special
Harvest Moon And Then Some
For nearly two decades, the Rune Factory series has been subtly producing exceptional games, each offering a distinctive blend of different game genres.
In simpler terms, “Rune Factory 4 Special” has elements reminiscent of a combat-focused version of “Harvest Moon.” You can cultivate crops and fish for income, and your culinary talents are highly valued by the villagers you’ll encounter.
Stepping beyond the town’s borders leads you to numerous challenging monster encounters in dynamic battle scenes. As you advance, you gain fresh abilities and equipment, and some boss fights can be particularly vexing if you don’t come properly equipped.
Among all the games I’ve delved into, Rune Factory 4 has been my favorite and that’s why I suggest it. However, if you’re keen on the latest release, Rune Factory 5 is currently available, and there’s another one slated for launch in 2025.
5. Raft
Take On A Shark… With A Stick
The game titled “Raft” is an exceptional survival crafting experience, enjoyable even when played solo, but truly memorable when shared with companions. Find yourself adrift on a modest vessel amidst treacherous waters teeming with sharks, and every resource at your disposal becomes crucial for your survival.
One of my favorite comfortable games to play is the Raft, as once you’ve addressed your hunger, there’s no need to rush into anything. The game also has an intriguing story that unravels as you advance, but you can delightfully spend countless hours customizing your raft before diving into it.
With a spear in hand, you become capable of confronting both terrestrial beasts and, under the right circumstances, even a shark. However, it’s important to note that merely thrusting aimlessly won’t guarantee your safety.
Remember that the game Raft features robust survival aspects, requiring you to constantly monitor and manage your resources like food and water. While I personally find the planning phase for a long voyage quite enjoyable, it might not suit everyone’s taste.
4. Cat Quest 2
Fun For All Ages
The Cat Quest trilogy offers a delightful collection of beginner-friendly role-playing games brimming with amusing quests, endearing personalities, and a nearly excessive amount of feline-themed humor.
The Cat Quest games are snugly situated in a comfortable niche due to their low challenge level and appealing design. Not only is the combat enjoyable, but it caters to both melee and ranged playstyles. There’s a delightful process of improving your equipment, and adept players can learn to dodge roll and take down stronger foes earlier than expected.
In Cat Quest, though enjoyable, combat isn’t as complex as in many other games on this list. However, it offers a depth that keeps things interesting and makes it suitable for both younger players and casual gamers. I particularly suggest Cat Quest 2 due to its multiplayer feature, but the first one is equally good if you prefer playing solo.

The High Budget Option
In the realm of life simulation and farming games, there are numerous charming indie productions that often shine. However, it’s quite uncommon to witness major studios such as Square Enix joining this category, which is usually dominated by smaller-scale projects.
Indeed, I find myself completely immersed in the enchanting world of Harvestella, a stunningly beautiful Japanese Role-Playing Game (JRPG). This captivating title has managed to scratch my agricultural itch while also offering me thrilling encounters filled with high-stakes fantasy combat.
In essence, the promotion for Harvestella doesn’t intentionally deceive, but it’s important to clarify that this game is primarily a Japanese Role-Playing Game (JRPG), featuring agricultural and lifestyle aspects as significant components, rather than the other way around.
In a more approachable phrasing, the combat is flashy and stylishly presented. The battles unfold in real-time, and fans of Final Fantasy XIV will quickly identify the Area of Effect (AOE) markers.
Harvestella is enjoyable overall, yet it seems incomplete and somewhat constrained in certain aspects. It can be described as a game with satisfactory combat, but presenting it at its full AAA price point might prove challenging due to these perceived shortcomings.
