As a die-hard fan of the Silent Hill series, I must say that this form has truly stirred my heart and brought back memories of countless sleepless nights spent exploring the hauntingly beautiful town of Silent Hill. The references to Silent Hill 4: The Room are particularly noteworthy, as they serve as a reminder of the rich lore and intricate details that made the original games so captivating.
Thanks to the latest launch of the Silent Hill 2 Remake, both novice gamers and seasoned enthusiasts have been left in awe by the immersive adventure they’ve encountered.
Through advancements on all fronts, it firmly established itself as one of the most outstanding horror remakes ever made, delivering long-awaited respect to the Silent Hill franchise.
Even after completing the creation of an outstanding game, Bloober Team still had surprises up their sleeves in Silent Hill 2. Hidden within it are numerous secrets and Easter eggs waiting to be discovered.
Some of these elements are subtly incorporated, amplifying the fear and anxiety; for instance, the decomposed human bodies scattered around town are actually representations of James Sunderland. On the contrary, some are merely entertaining Easter eggs and references to the game’s lore and other installments in the series.
These Easter Eggs are hidden either inside the game itself or by using a free-roam camera modification. Regardless of how you discover them, they’re all terrific nods to the series that long-term fans will appreciate.

10 Mary’s Body
Laying in the Back Seat of James’s Car
In Silent Hill 2, the main storyline centers around the character named James who is searching for his deceased wife, Mary, following a cryptic letter he received from her. Yet, it isn’t until the end of the game that we discover James was the one who tragically killed Mary during the worst stages of her illness.
The game doesn’t explicitly confirm that Mary’s body is in the backseat of James’s vehicle. On the contrary, it’s not possible to see the backseat within the game itself – the car door shuts when you try to open it, and the windows are too heavily tinted to discern anything inside.
Among the game’s conclusions, the so-called “Watery End” has sparked much discussion within the fan community, as it seemingly suggests that her body is located in the back seat, although this interpretation remains controversial.
The confirmation didn’t come until Masahiro Ito, the art director from Team Silent, posted about it on Twitter in 2012. Therefore, when the remake was released, a free camera mod allowed players to discover something surprising – Mary’s body could actually be located in the back seat of James’s car.
9 The Silent Hill Ranch Sign in Comic Sans
A Nudge to the HD Collection
The Silent Hill HD Collection, to put it very simply, was a hot mess.
In simpler terms, the revisions made to Team Silent’s games were unnecessary and dishearteningly subpar for many fans. One peculiar alteration that stood out was the redesign of the Silent Hill Ranch sign in the second game; instead of keeping the original design, it was changed to a Comic Sans font, which seemed odd.
In tribute to this eerie typeface, developers at Bloober Team chose to incorporate it into their remake. It can be found secretly tucked away at the ranch, located off-limits in the barn’s backdrop.
Even though you can discover it exclusively with a free modification for the camera, it remains an amusing Easter egg. Furthermore, it provides players with one of the most terrifying jump-scares within the whole game: the appearance of Comic Sans.
8 Green Pharmacy Receipt
Environmental Storytelling and Foreshadowing
Although the specific illness Mary suffered from isn’t explicitly stated, her situation strongly suggests she may have had some form of cancer. The reimagined version emphasizes this connection further, particularly when you visit the Green Pharmacy in town.
On the primary counter, you can locate a receipt outlining a costly transaction for items such as Relevmid, Berolmin, Xalprazinax, and Imatnelimed.
The prescriptions listed aren’t actual drugs, but rather intentional misspellings or combinations of genuine medications. Here they are: Revlimid (misinterpretation), Bondormin/Berolin (possibly a mix-up), Alprazolam/Xanax (combination), and Imantinib (possible typo).
These particular drugs are designed to address blood malignancies, particularly Acute Myeloid Leukemia, as well as anxiety-related conditions. They offer benefits not only for managing anxiety disorders but also aiding in the relief of sleep issues (insomnia), facilitating easier breathing by opening airways, and providing support during panic attacks.
It’s such a mortifying find, one that really emphasizes James’s headspace having to constantly obtain these medications and the potential financial strain it would cause.
Additionally, you’ll find an article about fluctuating insurance costs in one of the apartments – it’s filled with subtle hints connected to Mary’s health condition, making it quite remarkable.
7 The Chainsaw Animation
Only Available on New Game Plus
Playing Silent Hill 2 with the “New Game Plus” feature offers players an exciting upgrade – they can now wield a thrilling new tool: a chainsaw!
In this game, winning with the chainsaw earns players the “Lumberjack” trophy, and it also introduces humorous new actions. For instance, James is depicted sitting with crossed legs while using the chainsaw as a walking stick, but another scene is even more entertaining.
Occasionally, James unleashes his inner “Leatherface” character, hoists the chainsaw above him, and emits a fierce battle cry. This isn’t something he does each time he picks up the chainsaw, but it’s a fun surprise for the players on occasion.
I can’t help but suspect that this individual has quite the affinity for the Texas Chainsaw Massacre, or else perhaps he’s simply finding an outlet for his stress while handling a chainsaw in Silent Hill. Both possibilities seem plausible to me.
6 The Infamous Pizza Line
Said in Pete’s Bowl-O-Rama
In the original version, one character named Eddie is often spotted enjoying a slice of pizza. To James, this seemingly ordinary sight is incredibly strange, so much so that he exclaims aloud with his well-known quote: “This place seems to be teeming with monsters! How can you remain so casual and eat pizza?!
In all that James had experienced thus far, eating a slice of pizza seemed to be the last thing that tipped the scale for him.
In the reboot, it turns out to be amusingly appropriate. As players step into Pete’s Bowl-O-Rama, they come across an empty pizza box that has been consumed, earning them the trophy named “Leftovers.
Afterwards, James says the line — a fun nod to the original game.
5 The OG Silent Hill 2 Map
Found in the Woodside Apartments Courtyard
Gaining access to the Woodside Apartments isn’t an easy feat, and the game doesn’t hold back once you’re inside. Filled with monstrous creatures, a chilling atmosphere, and the infamous introduction of Pyramid Head, it stands as one of the most memorable and petrifying locations within the game.
It’s also full of secrets.
In the middle of the courtyard, people discovered yet another link to the initial game – this one being the original, pristine map, devoid of any red edits or markings.
As a devoted player, I must admit that at first glance during my initial playthrough, the game’s layout may seem familiar due to its resemblance to the map stored within my inventory. However, for discerning eyes like mine, it’s a delightful nod to the original game, serving as a thoughtful and charming tribute.
4 Douglas’s Hat
A Hopeful Reference to Silent Hill 3
The motel known as Jack’s Inn is filled with references and nods to the Silent Hill video game series, some of which aren’t limited only to the initial release of the game.
In Silent Hill 3, Heather Mason journeys with detective Douglas Cartland – often spotted wearing a gray hat – to the eponymous town. On their route, they halt at Jack’s Inn before settling down specifically in Room 106.
In the game, upon entering Room 106, players will discover Douglas’s hat sitting on a chair. Although James remains silent about it since it appears ordinary to him, for seasoned gamers, it serves as another piece of sentiment in the emotional puzzle that this game presents.
If anything, this situation sparks optimism among fans, as they eagerly anticipate Konami might consent to let Bloober Team remake the remaining Team Silent games.
3 Walter Sullivan
Mentioned at Several Hidden Points
For individuals who have experienced the chilling tale of Silent Hill 4: The Room, the figure of Walter Sullivan is undeniably recognizable. He assumes the role of the primary adversary within the narrative, a murderer who carries out rites for The Order, the game’s central cult, in a gruesome and ritualistic manner.
In this particular game, his name is conspicuously displayed all over the town of Silent Hill, suggesting an uneasy fear of him. This apprehension might well be justified, given that one newspaper report recounted his gruesome killing of a brother-sister duo, who would eventually become known as the Twin Victims.
The murders he committed are mentioned across different maps, another example of hints that were subtly planted in the original games. Similarly, Walter’s burial site is located only a short distance away from where James himself lies.
2 Room 302
A Flashback to Silent Hill 4: The Room
Besides Walter, Bloober Team also incorporates another nod to Silent Hill 4: The Room, and it’s this one that might surprise you twice.
At the Woodside Apartments, you might recognize Room 302. This is due to it being an exact replica of the legendary Room 302 from Silent Hill 4, the room where the main character, Henry Townshend, found himself confined.
Fortunately, there’s no big gaping hole in the bathroom, and the door isn’t locked either. This could easily lead one to speculate that the events from scenario 4 might transpire before those from scenario 2.
It’s worth noting that in the storyline of Silent Hill, James’s father, Frank Sunderland, happens to be the manager of the apartment complex where Henry lives.
If there were less enthusiasm among fans for Bloober Team to remake the other Team Silent games, their excitement would likely be less intense with every mention of those games.
1 Maria’s Original Outfit

As players explore Jack’s Inn, they stumble upon an unexpected delight upon entering Room 108. Hidden within the wardrobe lies Maria’s authentic costume from the initial video game.
Initially, it seems like an amusing tribute, but once players manage to open the door to admit Maria, things take a more significant turn. Upon investigating Room 107 and returning to Room 108, James discovers Maria already there, clutching the famous garment.
She’ll show it to him and inquire about his opinion on whether she appears attractive in it. He responds with a hesitant “Yes…” or “I suppose so.
In doing so, she playfully proceeds, offering fans more than a nostalgic nod to the initial game; it’s also like she’s giving them a gentle, affectionate pat on the head.
