The original Prototype could have sparked a significant series, but regrettably, the sequel fell short. Fortunately, the initial release was successful.
Imagine you’ve found yourself stepping into the role of Alex Mercer, an ordinary individual who has been afflicted by a virus that imbues him with extraordinary abilities, at least in terms of his superhuman powers.
Regardless of how you opt to utilize that power, the choice is yours to make. Will you destroy everything around you, leaving nothing but chaos in your wake? Or will you annihilate entire city districts? Alternatively, could you be a force for good and stand up against injustice? The decision is all yours.
One captivating take on the superhero genre stands out, skillfully executed with intense action scenes, a vibrant open-world setting, and a compelling narrative. Regrettably, this engaging tale didn’t fully bloom as intended.
6. Infamous 2
A Gritty Tale of Power
In its sequel, Infamous 2 built upon the strengths of the original game by enhancing its engaging combat, upgrading its visuals, and offering a captivating narrative that propelled the game forward, making it even more intriguing than before.
In the game Infamous 2, you’ll find the action set in a severely deteriorated version of a city resembling New Orleans, which is clearly in a state of decline.
In this instance, Cole is in a hurry to prevent The Beast from destroying yet another city as it wreaks havoc throughout the nation by rushing against the ticking clock.
This time, I find myself immersed in a captivating narrative where the line between right and wrong isn’t always clear-cut. As a gamer, I’m faced with tough decisions that challenge my moral compass. It’s not just about picking a side of good versus evil; it’s about understanding the grey areas and making choices that reflect my own beliefs and values.
Every faction offers unique reasons, personalities to engage with, but above all, distinct abilities. The power you wield significantly varies based on your moral decision, making the game compelling enough for numerous replays.
Overall, it is just a fantastic superhero game that stands alone in its uniqueness.
5. Batman: Arkham Knight
Almost Perfect
In my opinion, “Batman: Arkham Knight” would be ideal for the top spot, however, because it heavily features the Batmobile, I feel compelled to place it lower on the list.
Walking around like Batman, this superhero video game stands out as the greatest of them all. It’s simply remarkable – from its thrilling fights, captivating storylines, to graphics that still dazzle after a decade; it’s nothing short of perfection.
Instead of being bursting with energy like other open worlds, the city itself may not be particularly vibrant, but it offers a host of intriguing side missions to explore, riddles to unravel, and its appearance mirrors your mental image of Gotham City.
The major disappointment in this game is the boss battles, particularly because they mainly occur within the Batmobile. I find this hard to justify, as it seems absurd, and I don’t understand why, for instance, Arkham Knight would possess a colossal drill tank monstrosity. Frankly, I can’t wrap my head around that decision.
Despite its shortcomings, I find myself easily overlooking them since the combat stands out as the finest in the series, the dynamic between Batman and the remnants of the Joker’s memories is captivatingly intense, and the supporting elements are spot on.
4. The Incredible Hulk: Ultimate Destruction
The Green Man Gets His Due
Despite being around for quite a while, it turns out that The Incredible Hulk has only had one outstanding video game to his name, fortunately, this particular game is top-notch.
The Incredible Hulk: Ultimate Destruction was an exceptional game upon release, and it continues to impress even now because, as its title suggests, it delivers on the destruction promised.
As a devoted fan, I can’t help but feel the raw power when I embody the unstoppable force that is the Hulk. The game doesn’t just pay lip service to this iconic character; it pushes the boundaries of destruction physics, making every demolition feel authentic and exhilarating. It’s not an exaggeration to say that everything in my path – from adversaries to armored vehicles – becomes mere debris under my rampage. The game captures the essence of what it means to be the Hulk: a force to be reckoned with, leaving destruction in my wake.
The fight sequences carry a sense of gravity, and there’s minimal restriction as you traverse the city, causing destruction wherever you go, all while enjoying an engaging storyline that incorporates numerous comic book characters such as Thunderbolt Ross and Abomination to deliver one of the top-notch tales in this genre.
Overall, if you want to feel like a superhero, few games do it better.
3. DC Universe Online
Create a Hero Done Perfectly
DC Universe Online remains a standout achievement in contemporary gaming, even seven years later. Personally, I gave it a spin back in 2012, but its allure persists to the present day.
The game, DC Universe Online, doesn’t stand out in terms of visual spectacle, but its enduring developer support spanning over a decade, strong community of devoted fans, and the universal appeal of its concept have solidified it as one of the greatest superhero games available.
You have the ability to design a character with a variety of powers to select, enabling them to act as a hero, a villain, or anything in between.
As a fan, I’ll get to engage with a diverse array of legendary characters, from the enigmatic Joker to the swift-running Flash, the mighty Superman, and countless others that only my imagination can conjure up.
The fighting may feel a tad outdated, yet the joy of soaring through the skies and destroying adversaries alongside your comrades remains undiminished. Crafting your personal superhero has never been more satisfying.
2. Batman: Arkham City
Be the Batman
In Batman: Arkham City, every desire a Batman game enthusiast might have is met. The characters from the rogues gallery are brilliantly utilized, there’s a vast environment to traverse, the fight sequences are engaging, and the boss fights are top-notch – it truly embodies the essence of a fantastic Batman experience.
In the sequel of the Arkham series, you find yourself in the heart of Arkham City – effectively an isolated penal complex. Throughout your stay, Batman is on a mission to thwart various nefarious characters, ranging from Mr. Freeze to the Joker, as they create chaos within these walls.

This place offers an abundance of activities, including engaging side content and exceptional mission design. Notably, it boasts top-tier voice acting by Kevin Conroy and Mark Hamill. To sweeten the deal even further, it showcases one of the finest conclusions in any Batman narrative.
1. Marvel’s Spider-Man 2
Essentially, you could gather all three Marvel’s Spider-Man games together. The initial game was phenomenal and revolutionized the superhero genre, but due to its striking similarities with the second game, it seems appropriate to rank the sequel as superior.
In the sequel of Marvel’s Spider-Man, they not only maintained what made the first game great but significantly elevated it. The scenes were more grandiose, the challenges were more daunting, and the storyline cast doubt on Peter Parker’s future.
The difference between Miles and Peter is quite significant in this narrative, and though there are specific scenes where you must opt for either character, generally speaking, you’re free to decide which Spider-Man you prefer to follow throughout the storyline.
