10 Big Improvements in Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2

Seven years following the initial release of “Kingdom Come: Deliverance” by Warhorse Studios, its sequel finally arrived, and the extended wait has proven to be justified with numerous enhancements. While the original game was commendable, it had its share of issues, particularly upon its debut.

Currently, Warhorse has tackled numerous issues and introduced fresh elements that both novice and seasoned players of Kingdom Come will find appealing. The upcoming sequel, titled Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2, is significantly more expansive than its predecessor in every aspect, which might be intimidating for those unfamiliar with the historical RPG genre. Fortunately, many enhancements from the original game have been instrumental in making the transition smoother.

10. Performance Has Seen Major Improvements In KCD2

The Game Runs Well At Launch On Most PCs

Initially, the game “Kingdom Come: Deliverance” faced challenges during its debut due to its performance issues. To achieve a stable frame rate of over 60fps at 1080p resolution, one had to use high-end graphics cards available then. Otherwise, adjusting various settings was necessary for smooth gameplay. However, even if the game managed to run smoothly, it was filled with numerous glitches and bugs that needed fixing post-launch.

In the case of Kingdom Come Deliverance 2, it doesn’t encounter the issue that many modern AAA sequels do. Instead, it performs flawlessly across both Xbox and PlayStation consoles, as well as a variety of budget and high-performance PC builds.

9. Players Can Role-Play Henry Better Thanks To More Dialogue Choices

More Variety

As an avid gamer, I can’t wait to dive back into the immersive world of Kingdom Come: Deliverance with its sequel. Unlike other RPGs that use pre-made protagonists, Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 promises a more engaging experience for players like me. The enhanced dialogue options in this game should make a significant difference compared to the first one.

In the original game, my character Henry had various charisma skills that could be used during dialogues, but unfortunately, these choices often led to the same results. Consequently, it felt as if those options didn’t have much impact on the storyline. However, with the upgraded dialogue system in Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2, I’m hopeful that my decisions will matter more and truly shape the game’s narrative.

In the updated version of KCD2, the dialogue choices are more tied to Henry’s abilities, making them feel more authentic and impactful. For instance, if Henry chooses to emphasize his scholarly side, he can dazzle others with his knowledge, or if he dons full armor and adopts an aggressive stance, he can try to scare people into submission. These choices lead to varying outcomes. If Henry fails to appear wise, he may be ridiculed, and if his intimidation tactics backfire, he could find himself in an unwanted confrontation. This enhancement gives dialogue a greater significance in shaping Henry’s narrative, rather than merely serving as a skill-check.

8. Skills Have More Perks To Choose From

KCD2 Skills Are More Consequential

In the initial version of Kingdom Come, Henry’s abilities were potent, yet the options for selecting his talents or perks were somewhat limited. For non-combat skills, there were ten potential choices, and nine of them could be acquired by elevating a skill to level 20. The combat skills had fewer selections, but their impacts were stronger; however, like the non-combat skills, all but one could be obtained upon reaching level 20.

In the next installment of “Kingdom Come: Deliverance,” Henry gains fresh abilities like Craftsmanship and Heavy Weapons. Furthermore, skills in the sequel offer a greater number of perks, meaning players will face tougher choices when deciding on which areas Henry should excel. For instance, enhancing sword or mace proficiency previously granted additional attack options, but now these combat skills boast actual perks that provide Henry with distinct advantages, such as quicker stamina recovery or a higher chance of causing bleeding.

7. Quests Have Higher Stakes And More Compelling Stories

Side Quests Are Closer To The Main Conflict

Henry’s tale is grand, spanning from his village’s assault to his rise as a knight and commanding an army into conflict. The central narrative of “Kingdom Come: Deliverance” was thrilling, but many side quests failed to live up in contrast. One of the primary reasons for this discrepancy is that the initial game is set largely in the countryside, where the war between Wenceslaus and Sigismund has had minimal impact on the locals.

In the second game, as Henry and Hans Capon advance towards Trosky castle and eventually Kuttenberg, the risk of war intensifies and the frequent bandit attacks are causing more distress among the locals. Consequently, side quests become more perilous, fueling the tension, and if Henry triumphs, he stands to gain substantial rewards.

6. Blacksmithing Is A Practical Addition To KCD2

Honor Henry’s Past With This New Skill

In one of the upcoming DLCs for “Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2,” the storyline will delve into Henry’s blacksmithing background. Notably, the enhancement of a comprehensive blacksmithing system in this sequel is already a significant advancement from the original game. Unlike before where Henry could merely access different repair kits to mend weapons and armor via the inventory screen, he now has more extensive capabilities at his disposal. He can utilize various tools and even use a grindstone occasionally to keep his weapons razor-sharp.

Currently, with his Craftsmanship skill, Henry has the ability to create his own weapons and armor if a local blacksmith graciously allows him access to their forge. This new feature not only enhances immersion in the medieval atmosphere but also serves as a potent tool, especially for players who choose to dedicate time to it. Crafting weapons and armor can be an effective means of earning income in the upcoming game Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2, and later on, Henry will have the opportunity to master advanced techniques to craft top-tier equipment, ensuring he’s always equipped with powerful tools.

5. Combat Is Easier To Learn But Just As Rewarding

A Major Barrier To Entry In The Original Game

In Kingdom Come: Deliverance, the battle system stands out. Instead of the conventional perspective, you fight in the first person, primarily engaging in melee combat. What makes it even more distinctive is its zone-based system for controlling and parrying attacks. This feature remarkably simulates the tiring and chaotic essence of real-life hand-to-hand fights. However, mastering this system was challenging in the initial game, and it demanded a significant investment of time for Henry to build up his strength to consistently overcome opponents.

KCD2 streamlines certain combat elements for a less aggravating experience, yet maintains enough intricacy to let players feel they’re progressing and tackling tougher adversaries. A notable enhancement is the revamp of the Master Strike feature, distinct from blocking now, where Henry needs to strike an opponent simultaneously while moving in opposite directions, causing their attacks to rebound. It’s a daring move that brings immense gratification upon execution and frequently tips the scale in combat.

4. Changing Outfits Has Been Streamlined

Having A Passion For Fashion Isn’t A Burden

Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 offers players more flexibility in their gameplay style by allowing them to explore various approaches to quests. For instance, one could choose to act as a noble, utilizing knowledge to win people over, or opt for stealth by wearing a dark cloak and operating covertly at night. However, these methods necessitate different outfits; it’s impractical to sneak around in plate armor and spurs. In contrast to the previous game, where players had to manually manage their inventory to switch armor pieces, this new version appears to streamline the process for smoother gameplay.

Currently, Henry possesses the ability to easily switch among three wardrobe options by simply pressing a button when viewing his inventory. Each item of gear can be allocated to any of these outfits or multiple ones, but it must always remain in Henry’s inventory regardless of whether he is wearing it or not. Although simulating the effort of removing each piece of gear for a more authentic experience might have been appropriate, introducing outfit swapping significantly enhanced the gameplay experience and fosters diverse strategies.

3. Mutt Has More Skills & Is Better In Combat

Henry’s Good Boy Got Better

In the sequel to “Kingdom Come: Deliverance,” Mutt, one of Henry’s closest companions, plays a pivotal role by saving his life at the beginning. It would be beneficial for players to prioritize reconnecting with Mutt following the game’s introduction, given that he becomes increasingly valuable throughout the storyline. Notably, Mutt can participate in combat from the outset due to improvements in the Houndmaster skill, which now offers a wider range of advantages. To enhance Mutt’s effectiveness in battles, concentrate on upgrading his damage output and health through relevant combat-focused perks.

Mutt is also beneficial for enhancing the game’s rapid transportation, as he has a keen nose to detect threats ahead, thus boosting Henry’s chances of escaping potential perils earlier. The primary advantage is that Mutt is accessible from the beginning of the game, instead of being part of a DLC expansion. Consequently, he can accompany Henry during this phase of his adventure.

2. Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2’s Map Has More Variety & Is More Interesting To Explore

The New Setting Is Bigger And More Detailed

What truly catches the eye when engaging with Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 is the significant expansion in the game’s map. This expanded map contains eight notable locations and more than a dozen fast-travel spots, much like the original game, but it covers an area that’s approximately twice as large. Moreover, the map is more densely populated with larger towns housing more residents, increased numbers of roadside camps, and the castles Henry and Hans visit are grander than Perkstein or Talmberg.

In addition to being larger, these environments are more complex, intricate, and clearly defined. They feature expansive forests teeming with wildlife, smaller forests dotted with labyrinthine rocks, winding rivers, and narrow creeks leading to marshy landscapes. Each part of the map stands out distinctly compared to the original game, with impressive visual and audio elements enhancing the experience.

1. New Weapons Are Powerful And Have Distinct Feels

More Variety For An In-Depth System

In the sequel of Kingdom Come: Deliverance, one refreshing aspect is the inclusion of new weapons. Among these, crossbows stand out as an engaging addition due to their ease of use compared to longbows and their effectiveness against armored foes from a distance. Additionally, polearms and spears are now supported by the Heavy Weapons skill, enabling Henry to excel in close combat without relying on a shield, offering more tactical options for players.

Furthermore, swords stand out uniquely; longswords were already distinct from shortswords, but the revamping of the perk system and combat mechanics has made hunting swords and sabers feel different from other one-handed swords. The decision to wield a shield or not can also significantly alter the dynamics of sword combat.

Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 built upon its already stellar first-person action RPG foundation, enhancing nearly every aspect of the game. The seven-year project by Warhorse Studios has expanded the game world significantly and made notable upgrades to combat, quests, dialogue, landscapes, interfaces, and much more. This means that both veteran players and newcomers can enjoy a smoother gaming experience while still appreciating its unique atmosphere.
