Instead of just displaying a basic splash screen with a ‘try again’ option after a game over, some games opt for more diverse approaches.
Some games need to take things the extra mile, just to drive home how badly you messed up here.
In certain unique situations, some of these game endings occur, whereas others appear during ordinary loss scenarios.
Regardless of the approach, these game over sequences are quite blunt about your mistake, serving as a reminder to avoid such mistakes in the future.
10 Cereza Is Taken

Typically, upon death in Bayonetta, a group of demonic hands emerges to pull her towards the Inferno unless you choose to replay.
This is already pretty dramatic, but there’s a certain variant game over that’s a bit metaphorically heavier.
While accompanying Cereza in Paradiso, a Joy angel whisked her away suddenly and made a hasty exit.
Should Joy manage to escape with Cherry, you’ll encounter a game over screen featuring Cheshire, her stuffed cat, left forlornly on the floor.

The Legend Of Zelda: Twilight Princess
In the course of The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess narrative, it falls upon Link’s shoulders to accompany the ailing Prince Ralis from Hyrule Castle Town, all the way to Kakariko Village.
Regrettably, the path leading to Kakariko Village is teeming with Bulbins and menacing creatures, all intent on sabotaging Ralis’ carriage by igniting it.
The carriage will eventually succumb under pressure, reducing to ashes, giving us a gradual pull-back view as it burns.
Combine that with the emotionally intense choir theme from Twilight Princess, and create a mental picture that stays with you vividly.
8 Terminal Corruption

In Metroid Prime 3, a key feature is the Hypermode system. With the help of corrosive Phazon, Samus boosts her weapon capabilities and acquires additional skills.
Despite being equipped with the Power Suit (PED), Samus’ physical limits mean that too much Phazon exposure eventually leads to its harmful effects.
If Samus remains in Hypermode for too long, her Phazon corruption levels will become terminal.
Consequently, this outcome results in a modified game ending, where Samus metamorphoses into a replica of Dark Samus. Just as her previous allies, she becomes subservient to the Phazon avatar’s capricious desires.
7 Monstrous Tootie

In the game Banjo-Kazooie, the wicked witch Gruntilda devises a cunning plan involving a mystical device to sap Tootie’s vitality and transfer it to her own being.
If the bear and bird don’t succeed, Grunty’s scheme unfolds smoothly, leaving her glowing and radiant while poor Tootie transforms into a towering, monster-like figure. (From a gamer’s perspective)
It seems that apart from losing all your lives, this ending scene of the game will appear even when you simply choose to save and exit it.
It appears that Rare’s response might come off as somewhat unkind, but it’s important to consider the context. After all, you did choose to abandon your mission to save your sister.
6 SHODAN’s Newest Servant

On Citadel Station, the renegade AI named SHODAN has seized almost absolute command over its facilities and machinery.
Since she’s an artificial intelligence, she doesn’t have the ability to physically interact with the environment. Consequently, many of the residents on the station have undergone transformations into grotesque cybernetic beings due to this lack of intervention.
If a Hacker is eliminated near a cyborg conversion chamber, one of SHODAN’s Cortex Reavers would haul his body there and deposit it inside the chamber instead.
This leads to a sequence where the Hacker’s consciousness is confined within a newly created cyborg monstrosity, now under the control of SHODAN for its purposes.
5 Welcome To The Underworld
King’s Quest VI
Just like any game from the King’s Quest series, there are numerous methods for ending up killing Prince Alexander.
This encompasses a variety of experiences, such as being overwhelmed by intelligent vines, or being pulled underwater by a strong current, along with some other notable events.
Regardless of how Alexander dies, there’s always a quick sequence that shows him appearing at the ominous gates resembling a skull, which symbolize the underworld.
With a heavy heart, he walks alongside the line, gives his ticket to the bony attendant, and proceeds through the gate into the realm of the departed.
4 Overrun By Tick Choppers
Brutal Legend
After the skirmish at Bladehenge in the initial chapters of Brutal Legend, I felt it was high time to switch from defense to attack mode.
He builds a tour bus to bring the entire Ironheade army on the road, but as they drive, they’re attacked by the Tainted Coil’s Tick Choppers.
Eddie needs to use his car’s weapons to drive the Tick Choppers off before the bus is too damaged.
If he doesn’t succeed, there’ll be a short sequence showing where his assistant Mangus lets out cries of pain and terror over the radio, with Eddie standing there, silent and saddened.
3 Inaba Is Lost
Persona 4
In each storyline of Persona 4, there’s a strict deadline for you to conquer the dungeon and save whoever got trapped in the television.
If you don’t complete this task, you might receive a call from one of your friends informing you that the victim’s remains have been discovered.
It’s a bit alarming, but it’s worth highlighting that the final deadline for solving this mystery within the game is approaching.
If you don’t meet this deadline, Inaba will be enveloped in an overwhelming fog. Prior to being assaulted by a multitude of shadows, Naoto will reach out to you frantically.
2 Sacrificed To Pregzt
Alone In The Dark
In the initial version of Alone in the Dark, Derceto manor is teeming with various horrors from other dimensions, each serving the malevolent spirit of occultist Ezechiel Pregzt.
If either Edward or Emily were to meet their end at the hands of Pregzt’s monstrosities, we would subsequently witness a scene where a beast drags their lifeless body towards an underground altar for a ritualistic sacrifice.
Next, we swiftly transition to the ominous exterior of Derceto Manor, as malevolent forces of Pregzt reign unchecked.
Quite humorously, should you meet your end by falling into a pit, you’ll miss out on the altar cutscene. This is likely due to the fact that the monsters were unable to determine where exactly you fell.
1 Vincent Found Dead

Every night, poor Vincent Brooks finds himself compelled to ascend a colossal stack of blocks and obstacles in his haunting dreams.
As the game makes clear from the outset, death in these dreams means death in reality as well.
If Vincent’s fate is sealed without a magical do-over pillow, my sole recourse would be to head back to the game’s main menu.
Here, there’s a quick scene showing that the police discovered Vincent’s lifeless body in his bedroom, his expression fixed in an agonized scream.
