10. Nights Into Dreams
“In The Nights, Dream Delight…”
On the SEGA Saturn, Nights into Dreams functioned as an unsanctioned main attraction, given that the console didn’t have a clear Sonic title to call its own.
The game had an unusual structure that required a good deal of reading the instructions to grasp, but once I figured it out, it turned out to be quite enjoyable.
Nights has only had two games, one on the Saturn and one on the Wii.
If they updated the original Saturn release with modern graphics, user-friendly improvements, and a stronger narrative focus like the Wii version, that classic flying jester could certainly use a comeback.
9. Cyber Troopers Virtual On
Everything’s Better With Giant Robots
There’s consistently a demand for high-quality giant robot games, as evidenced by titles like Gigabash. Given this market trend, now could be an ideal moment to reintroduce SEGA’s iconic robot-battling game, Cyber Troopers Virtual On, back into the gaming scene.
This arcade game was all about high-speed robot-on-robot combat, both with guns and melee weapons.
Instead of focusing solely on one versus one matches in the competitive sphere, there’s also an option to expand it into a full-blown multiplayer setting. With SEGA’s potential game, they might find themselves ideally suited for creating a battle royale experience.
8. Dynamite Headdy
Bright, Colorful, And Wacky
As a gamer, I’ve been thrilled to see the comeback of cheerful, off-the-wall character platformers, and Astro Bot is just one shining example!
Packed with vibrant and eccentric elements, Dynamite Headdy truly shines. Originally developed by Treasure and published by Sega, this game was a surprising success for the Genesis console, often praised as one of its hidden gems.
A Dynamite Headdy remake could be either a traditional 2D platformer or a 3D mascot platformer.
Both options could fit seamlessly with the game’s set design and puppet characters, given that Headdy has a variety of power-ups.
7. Space Harrier
Time For An Arcade Revival
Space Harrier was one of SEGA’s biggest arcade blockbusters.
One appealing feature was the unique arcade cabinet that moved in response to your maneuvers. If SEGA aims to preserve this distinctive trait, they could redesign it for arcades, but a home console version with a scoring system would be equally enticing.
Regarding a potential remake, consider pushing the boundaries of its current wildness even further. Introduce more bizarre adversaries, colossal bosses, and other elements that will make it even more outlandish.
Should the proposed plan materialize, it might be beneficial for Sega to invite Hideki Kamiya to join their team. Given that he often incorporates Space Harrier elements into his games, it’s likely that such an opportunity would appeal to him.
6. Vectorman
Imagine The Graphical Potential
Vectorman represented an impressive action-platformer, designed to demonstrate the true potential of the Sega Genesis against its rival consoles during the console war era.
Indeed, it successfully achieved its aim, but with only one exception, VectorMan hasn’t reappeared since then.
As a dedicated fan, I can’t help but marvel at how the original Vectorman games demonstrated cutting-edge technology back in the day. Now, imagine what SEGA could achieve with today’s advanced game engines, showcasing their technical prowess like never before!
Place the robot-ball in an intricate 3D environment, endow it with novel skills and capabilities; the narrative seems to take shape on its own.
5. Alien Soldier
Notoriously Difficult Super Spectacle
In partnership with SEGA, Alien Soldier from Treasure was an impressive demonstration tailored specifically for experienced gamers, emphasizing challenge and player skill.
Even with modern day expectations, the original remains quite challenging. However, one wonders just how much further a remake might take things to the edge?
Based on the original’s gameplay mechanics, Sega might develop an intensely thrilling, skill-centric gameplay style that would be ideal for players who enjoy mastering challenging games.
It would be equally amazing to witness the game’s enormous and peculiar bosses brought to life in stunning 3D detail. I can hardly imagine the thrill of standing face-to-face with the mighty Wolfgunblood and Garopa, towering over you in all their glory.
4. Comix Zone
A Pow, A Zip & A Whack
Comix Zone was an exceptionally bold game for the Genesis console, allowing players to assume the role of a comic book creator battling within his own comics.
You’d jump between comic panels while the antagonist drew new enemies and hazards onto the page.
A revamped version of Comix Zone would be fantastic if it incorporated a complete character-action style, emphasizing the comic aesthetic not only in combat sequences but also during exploration.
Primarily, what it requires is an adjustment in its level of challenge; the initial version was infamously hard and had no qualms about sending you back to the main menu with even the smallest error.
3. Skies Of Arcadia
Reviving A Long-Dormant JRPG Classic
In the realm of Japanese Role-Playing Games (JRPGs), Sega often focuses on the Phantasy Star series. However, there was an exception when they created something fresh for the Dreamcast: Skies of Arcadia.
In this timeless role-playing game, you’ll find an ensemble of fashionable aerial buccaneers, who sail through the skies to correct injustices and amass riches.
Although The Skies of Arcadia has primarily been recognized through its GameCube port and occasional appearances, a comprehensive remake similar to Metaphor: ReFantazio might bring it back into the spotlight.
2. Ristar
Another Forgotten SEGA Mascot
Just like Dynamite Headdy, Ristar is another hidden gem from the SEGA Genesis family, but with a twist – it was solely developed by SEGA themselves.
In contrast to the Sonic series, what set Ristar apart was its focus on extending limbs, enabling characters to soar through levels in a manner reminiscent of a falling star.
It would be ideal if the remake emphasized speed and flair, similar to Penny’s Big Breakaway. But let’s maintain it in 2D since managing the action with launching and stretching could be challenging in a 3D environment.

We Could Always Use More Opa-Opa
Did you know this trivia? Before introducing Sonic the Hedgehog and Alex Kidd, Sega’s initial representative character was actually Opa-Opa, the small spaceship from Fantasy Zone that you pilot.
Although Opa-Opa isn’t widely recognized these days, appearing only briefly in games like Sonic and SEGA All-Stars Racing, it’s high time we honor him with a well-deserved remake.
Fantasy Zone offers a versatile gameplay structure, allowing you to traverse vast spaces while annihilating adversaries, with periodic opportunities for enhancing your skills. Consequently, a remake of this game can be successfully developed in either a two-dimensional or three-dimensional format.
Specifically, enhancing that feature could potentially transform a remake into an excellent choice for adopting the roguelike style.
