Spoilers Ahead For Love Hurts
5. The Office Fight
Marvin Vs Raven

For Marvin, things quickly spiral out of control, as an assassin lies in wait for him at his real estate office. Raven, a formidable figure, looms over Marvin by at least a foot and possibly more. He’s armed with knives, feather-tipped darts, and even carries a gauntlet reminiscent of the Assassin’s Creed games. Marvin finds himself in a challenging position from the start, as he’s pinned to his desk by a dagger thrust through his hand.
Although Marvin hasn’t had much practice since his days as an assassin, he manages to fend off Raven using everyday items such as a staple remover and his computer. The humor arises when Ashley, Marvin’s assistant, is taken aback by the odd sounds coming from his office. Upon investigating, she finds him explaining it away as a rigorous workout routine. In the end, Marvin overpowers Raven, subdues her, and promptly departs his office following a meeting with their boss, Cliff.
4. A Home Invasion
Marvin Vs King And Otis

The standout brawl in the film occurs as the second one, initiated when Marvin returns home. Upon his arrival, two additional assailants, King and Otis, are waiting for him, roughing him up to extract information about Rose. When he reaches his limit, Marvin springs back into action, moving swiftly like Yoda in “Star Wars: Attack of the Clones.” Fittingly, King and Otis toss Marvin around carelessly, damaging bar stools, his crock pot, paintings, and various other items.
In most confrontations, Marvin is not the one who typically comes out victorious. At one instance, he seems to be written out of the story entirely (a metaphorical term for a character’s death or incapacitation used primarily for plot convenience), but manages to slip away through the backyard. What sets Marvin apart as a fighter isn’t his technical combat abilities. Instead, it’s his resilience, demonstrated by his ability to withstand blows and keep fighting, a trait that Ke Huy Quan skillfully portrays on screen. It’s likely that there were some stunt doubles assisting him during filming as well.
3. A Complicated Housing Market
Marvin And Raven Vs King And Otis

In another instance, a conflict unfolds within a house that Marvin was trying to sell to a potential couple he’s wooing. Right as he thought the house sale was about to be finalized, Ashley appeared with the necessary documents, but Raven tagged along too. As it seemed like they were on the verge of arguing, both the house and their conversation were abruptly interrupted by gunfire from King and Otis, who had arrived unexpectedly. Renny, their superior, commanded them to eliminate not only Marvin but also Raven, as he found Raven unsettling.
Initially, adversaries transform into unexpected partners as they clash with King and Otis. Meanwhile, King and Marvin venture into town while Raven hurls darts and knives at Otis. At some point, Marvin briefly departs to monitor the married pair, allowing the other three to engage in a fierce battle. Later, Ashley intervenes to prevent Marvin from dealing the final blow against Raven following their alliance. This unconventional bond is quite peculiar, even by the movie’s eccentric standards. As an aside, during the action, Drew Scott, famously known as one of the Property Brothers, attempts to assist Marvin, but he meets a swift and humorous yet disheartening demise.
2. The Video Store
Marvin And Rose Vs Knuckles’ Goons

The primary factor that gives the film “Love Hurts” a Milwaukee, Wisconsin setting is the video store/arcade operated by Knuckles, which serves as a front. This setup is quite appealing and significant, as it’s where the movie’s climactic scene unfolds. In this tense moment, Rose is on the verge of being shot when Marvin intervenes to dispose of Knuckles’ henchmen. With swift action, Rose manages to escape and begins shocking Knuckles’ minions with a taser one after another.
In this confrontation, Renny, who initiated the entire ordeal with his treacherous double-crossing, meets his end with a shotgun blast to the chest – the sole legitimate kill she makes. Marvin, the long-presumed deceased assassin, is now in full swing, no longer restraining himself. He’s as skilled as ever, able to deliver blows, fire bullets, and stab opponents just as effectively as any other professional. The scene might not be as carefully planned or humorous as the two house scenes, but it’s certainly an action-packed spectacle that justifies the ticket price.
1. Brothers Come Face To Face
Marvin Vs Knuckles
![](https://static0.gamerantimages.com/wordpress/wp-content/uploads/2025/02/knuckles-in-love-hurts.jpg)
Following the handling of the thugs, Marvin navigates toward the rear of the video store to square off against Knuckles. He lets the viewers in on a secret that Marvin has always struggled to defeat him. Moreover, he informs Marvin that he was responsible for Cliff’s death and had taken his cowboy hat as well. This revelation served to enrage Marvin, driving him to fight with increased determination.
Even when Knuckles brandishes a bat, Marvin remains relatively unperturbed and effortlessly shatters it with a single powerful strike. The fight scene itself offers some intense moments of combat, but it lacks the humor that makes other parts of the movie enjoyable. However, this is intentional, as the fight was designed to underscore Marvin’s deadly capabilities. After defeating his brother, Marvin can casually exit with Rose while the Russian mob handles the ensuing turmoil.
