Action video games typically center on some form of confrontation, encompassing anything from major wars down to individual skirmishes. In these scenarios, characters often engage in violence and experience casualties while fighting for their beliefs.
However, some individuals stand out from the crowd, gaining notoriety through extraordinary abilities and seemingly impossible skills.
As an ardent admirer, I’d like to highlight what truly distinguishes a super soldier from their peers: it might be advanced technology embedded within them that amplifies their senses or mystical abilities that allow them to manipulate the very structure of space-time. In the face of seemingly impossible challenges, these extraordinary warriors stand tall and confront adversity head-on.
In other words, ordinary challenges may not pose much of a challenge for a super soldier, but only another super soldier or even a deity could bring them down. We’ll be evaluating these super soldiers based on their iconic status within their respective series, as well as the extraordinary abilities they demonstrate.
10. Warframes
Warframe
Warframes represent advanced, biomechanical exosuits operated by the Tenno, a race of enhanced soldiers who harness immense power to transform these armors into formidable battle machines, striking fear into any low-ranking Grineer or Corpus soldier they encounter.
Every Warframe boasts an array of potent weapons at their disposal, which they can manufacture themselves. These weapons encompass various types such as rifles, shotguns, double-barreled pistols, swords, and even more extraordinary ones that unleash fire and electricity against their foes.
Warframes exhibit remarkable speed and lethality, as they can swiftly move across the landscape by sliding and gliding, much like agile ballerinas performing a dance of death and gunfire in an almost balletic fashion. The gameplay fails to fully convey just how formidable these biomechanical machines truly are.
9. Prophet
Crysis 3
In the 2010s, Crysis 3 stands out as one of the most technically impressive games, offering thrilling stealth battles. You assume the role of Prophet, a powerful soldier equipped with the Nanosuit, as you battle an ancient and technologically advanced alien race known as the Ceph.
Originally a Delta Force operative named Major Lawrence Barnes, who initially donned the Nanosuit in the initial Crysis game, eventually merged with Ceph technology and became one with the suit. This transformation led to the creation of a transhuman consciousness residing within the exoskeleton.
Or more concisely:
Known as Major Laurence Barnes, the main character from Crysis, was initially a Delta Force operative who wore the Nanosuit in the game. He later became a transhuman consciousness dwelling inside an exoskeleton due to his infusion with Ceph technology.
Equipped with the Nanosuit, the Prophet can draw upon an internal energy source to enhance the suit’s capabilities: Armor, Strength, Agility, and Stealth. Nevertheless, the suit’s standout feature is its ability to modify its exterior to bend light around it, making the Prophet virtually indistinguishable to the human eye without special equipment.
Typically, the Prophet prefers to wield a combat bow, allowing him to craft various arrow tips for silent elimination of adversaries, all while remaining hidden within his camouflage.
8. The Guardian
Destiny 2
Apart from being recognized as Lightbearers, these formidable warriors, or Guardians, derive their strength from Ghosts and possess the ability to manipulate energy that transcends normal physical laws, often referred to as “space magic.
Guardians possess the remarkable ability to return from the dead through their ghostly forms, essentially rendering them immortal. These combatants, whether they’re battling for humanity or amassing wealth as treasure hunters, earn legendary status, sometimes revered as heroes, while others are known for converting deities into weapons and armor at will.
In the universe of “Destiny,” you take on the role of The Guardian, the chosen protector fated to save the world numerous times throughout the game’s narrative.
In a dramatic turn of events, Oryx, known as the Taken King, was slain. His sister, the cunning Savathun, was vanquished next. Even the enigmatic cosmic force, the Witness, who strives to mold the universe into an unchanging form, was confronted and overpowered.
Additionally, it should be noted that while your Guardian is considered the primary hero, they aren’t the sole one with such abilities. In fact, every Guardian possesses the power to harness solar energy, create mini-blackholes, or even freeze things to absolute zero. The extent of these powers depends on each Guardian’s unique skills and experiences.
In the game “The Final Shape”, the introduction of the Prismatic subclass allows Guardians to blend Light and Dark energies, resulting in an unprecedented surge of power that surpasses their initial might experienced in the Cosmodrome back in 2014.
7. Raiden
Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance
In the games Metal Gear Solid 4 and Metal Gear Solid 2, Raiden was a notable side character. However, it was when he took the lead in his standalone spinoff game, Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance, that Raiden’s fame really soared.
A former Liberian-American mercenary, now a cyborg, is widely recognized for his distinctive silver hair, striking good looks, and his knack for swiftly defeating enemies using his rapid-speed blade.
Initially known as Jack, a former child soldier who battled alongside Solidus Snake, Raiden became notoriously bloodthirsty, earning him the nickname “Jack the Ripper.” After enlisting in the Special Forces, he was eventually kidnapped and transformed into a cyborg. However, he was later saved from this fate.
In the realm of Metal Gear, I, a cyborg named Raiden, boast an uncanny level of physical prowess. I’m able to exert superhuman strength, move at blistering speeds, and endure challenges that would leave others breathless. My capabilities know no bounds as I can lift the colossal Metal Gear Ray and cleave it in two with my sword. After my upgrade, I’ve become nearly indestructible, capable of withstanding immense forces that would crush ordinary beings. In the heat of battle against countless cybernetically-enhanced soldiers in Metal Gear Rising, I stood tall, particularly against the formidable nanomachine-empowered villain Senator Armstrong.
In gameplay, Raiden’s power is best demonstrated through his Zandatsu skill, which enables him to perceive time slower than normal, thus allowing him to unleash numerous swift and accurate strikes within seconds. This results in enemies being reduced to a pulp almost instantaneously. It’s long overdue for a sequel featuring more of Raiden, PlatinumGames…
6. Soldier: 76
Overwatch
As an avid fan, I can’t help but notice that almost every hero shooter includes a soldier-like figure, and Overwatch is no different in this regard.
Born as Jack Morrison, this character was previously the head of the globally recognized hero team, Overwatch. However, following the dismantling of Overwatch, he found himself wanted by the authorities. Now, he’s a lone vigilante, pursuing his own crusade to uncover the reasons behind Overwatch’s collapse and seeking justice.
Alongside his former partner Gabriel Reyes (now affiliated with Talon and infamously known as The Reaper), Soldier 76 is not just an ordinary super soldier, but possesses exceptional endurance, speed, and stamina. He is particularly renowned for taking down enemies using a pulse rifle.
Soldier 76’s gear includes a visor which allows him to pinpoint any adversary within his sight, effortlessly zeroing in and firing at them with exceptional precision.
5. Cloud Strife
Final Fantasy VII
Cloud Strife, arguably the most renowned character in the Final Fantasy series, was initially a mercenary with ties to SOLDIER, a super-soldier project run by the Shinra Corporation.
In the storyline of Final Fantasy 7, he joins forces with the eco-activist group Avalanche, which includes his comrades Barret and Tifa, as well as many other characters.
People who question Cloud’s slender physique need only examine his massive Buster Sword, which appears more like a lump of metal with a slim grip than a true weapon. Despite its apparent heft, he can leap to impressive heights, wield it as if it were weightless, and move at speeds that are nearly undetectable to the unassisted eye.
However, Cloud’s extraordinary supersoldier abilities weren’t due to being drafted by Shinra, but rather the outcome of sinister scientific experiments involving JENOVA cells, conducted by the malevolent genius, Hojo.
Due to this source of immense power similar to Sephiroth, Cloud endured extreme mental trauma and amnesia, causing him to conceal his genuine memories and assume the persona of his deceased comrade, Zack Fair.

In the game “Doom Eternal”, the Slayer unleashes his voracious appetite for demonic flesh with relentless ferocity, shredding and dismembering without pause.
In the earlier versions of DOOM, he was a marine, but eventually, he ended up in the realm of Argent D’Nur and transformed into a hero within an alien culture. He rose to become a top-tier warrior among the Argent society, serving as a Night Sentinel thereafter.
As a gamer, I’ve got to say, the Doom Slayer isn’t just any ordinary hero. He’s got powers beyond human comprehension, but what sets him apart is his arsenal of weapons. In the heat of battle, I can pull out any tool I need, like my trusty double-barreled shotgun that reduces demons to a gory mess, or… well, let me tell you about the BFG-9000. This bad boy isn’t just a weapon; it’s a game changer. When I unleash its neon-green destructive force, anything and everything in its path is history. It’s not just a weapon, it’s a statement of intent: demons, you’re next!
The Doom Slayer can be described as a silent, relentless destroyer, whose primary focus lies in annihilating Hell and all entities that delve into the realm of demonic power. He is not just a powerful force, but rather an entity who has ascended to become an embodiment of divine retribution.
3. Demetrian Titus
Warhammer 40,000: Space Marines 2
In the grim darkness of Warhammer 40K, I find myself surrounded by danger at every turn. Aliens, demons, and even fellow humans are ready to strike me down without warning. Even the mighty Space Marines, the Imperium of Man’s elite warriors, aren’t invincible against the evil they face. It’s a world where survival is a constant struggle and death lurks around every corner.
In the vast universe of Warhammer 40K, I’ve come across some truly awe-inspiring figures who stand out even among the legends. One such character is Demetrian Titus, the central figure in the Space Marines series and its follow-up. These characters are not just powerful, they’re mythical, and stepping into a battlefield with them feels like having an ally of legend at your side.
Just like other Astartes, Titus boasts extraordinary physical abilities such as enhanced strength, speed, resilience, and modifications that elevate him beyond the human norm, granting him a lifespan measured in centuries.
In his role as a Space Marine, he’s not only proficient but also armed with the distinctive power armor synonymous with the Adeptus Astartes. He’s also a skilled marksman, adept at handling an array of weaponry provided by the Imperium.
However, it’s not just any quality that sets Titus apart; he boasts an exceptional immunity to Chaos, a force infamous for corrupting even the toughest Space Marines.
Despite false accusations of heresy and corruption stemming from his exceptional survival amidst the chaos and its dissident factions, he has persistently stood firm in his loyalty to his Emperor.
2. BJ Blazkowicz
Wolfenstein: The New Colossus
William Joseph “BJ” Blazkowicz, AKA “Terror Billy” by Nazis, is the protagonist of the Wolfenstein series. While he may not be a super soldier for most of the game’s history, Blazkowicz’s hatred towards the Nazis has carried him through battles that no normal soldier could ever survive.
In the game titled “New Colossus“, Blazkowicz didn’t acquire his super soldier abilities until an event where he was beheaded by Frau Engel, but then his head was attached to a genetically engineered super-soldier body developed by the Nazis, which had been seized by the Resistance.
As a die-hard fan, I’ve always admired Blazkowicz’s impressive physical prowess even before his super soldier transformation. Now, with this new body, he can adapt to various situations like never before. Whether it’s scaling towering heights with the Battle Walker suit or turning into an unstoppable force with the Ram Shackles, Blazkowicz’s adaptability is truly awe-inspiring.
Over the course of time, Blazkowicz’s strength remained undiminished even as he reached his 70s in “Young Blood”. Notably, this veteran is still fit enough to engage in intense combat alongside his twin daughters. It’s clear that taking down Nazis remains an exciting endeavor.

As a gamer, I can’t help but feel awestruck by the legendary status of Master Chief in our gaming world and beyond. With his Spartan II super soldier background spanning three decades, he’s earned a chilling reputation among the Covenant, earning him the moniker “Demon” from those extraterrestrial beings.
In popular culture, Master Chief is often hailed not only as one of the most iconic super soldiers, but also as the top video game character of all time. He serves as the symbol for Xbox and the Halo series, transforming from a player’s representative to a fully developed character in more recent installments of Halo.
Equipped with an indomitable spirit and proficiency across various weapon systems, the Master Chief has repeatedly safeguarded the galaxy alongside his artificially intelligent ally Cortana. Ready to defend humankind at a moment’s notice, all that the Master Chief requires is a tool for battle.
