2026 is shaping up to be a huge year for Dragon Ball Super. Fans are finally getting a remake of the anime with Dragon Ball Super: Beerus, and a new movie, Dragon Ball Super: The Galactic Patrol, is also on the way. This movie will adapt story arcs from the Dragon Ball Super manga that haven’t been animated before, starting with the popular Moro Saga. Plus, there’s hope the Dragon Ball Super manga will continue publishing before the year is out, though that’s not guaranteed.
It’s a fantastic time to be a Dragon Ball fan! With Dragon Ball Super concluding, the series is entering a really interesting phase. We’re seeing a remake of Battle of Gods, the long-awaited animation of the Moro arc, and the Black Frieza Saga is coming soon. The key characters currently reflect this exciting and unique moment for the Dragon Ball franchise.
10. Beerus is Getting a Second Chance in Dragon Ball Super’s Official Anime Remake

Beerus has always been a key character in the Dragon Ball series, but his role is set to become even more prominent with the upcoming release of Dragon Ball Super: Beerus. This new arc is a remake of the original Dragon Ball Super anime, aiming to improve the animation, streamline the story, and incorporate content from the Dragon Ball Super manga. It marks the first time this story will be presented in this updated format since Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Gods.
Beerus will be the primary villain in Dragon Ball Super again, leading up to a retelling of the Resurrection F arc. Currently, in the manga, he’s watching Goku and Vegeta train and is acting as Vegeta’s trainer. As the story moves towards the Black Frieza Saga, Vegeta will need extensive training from Beerus to fully control his powerful new Ultra Ego transformation.
9. Moro is About to Break the Internet as Dragon Ball Super’s Next Best Villain

The recent announcement of Dragon Ball Super: The Galactic Patrol means fans will finally see the manga’s standout villain brought to life in animation. Moro was a fantastic addition to Dragon Ball Super, proving to be a truly frightening enemy who ranks among the best villains from the original Dragon Ball Z. He’s incredibly powerful, has a great look, and delivers some of the most exciting battles for Goku and Vegeta throughout the entire series.
I’ve been watching this villain, Moro, and it’s terrifying. He travels the universe destroying planets just to get stronger – he actually absorbs their energy. It got even worse when he absorbed someone called Seven-Three; he gained the ability to copy other people’s techniques! That makes him incredibly dangerous, especially since he’s developing a form similar to Ultra Instinct. Honestly, if you only watch the Dragon Ball Super anime, you have no idea how excited you should be for when Moro finally appears!
8. Trunks Has Become the Face of Dragon Ball Super’s Side-Stories
While Trunks has generally been a more prominent character than Goten, the High School Saga in the Dragon Ball Super manga has really solidified his position as the more central figure. He’s become the main focus and essentially the lead character for the series’ more everyday, slice-of-life stories.
Though Goten is often paired with him, Trunks is the central character in the High School Saga, and his story directly leads into the events of Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero. This focus continues in Dragon Ball Super Chapter 104, which explains Trunks and Goten’s interest in Clean God and further connects to the Super Hero Saga. The series clearly prioritizes Trunks’ development as a character, likely due to the popularity of his Future self.
7. Pan Has the Potential to Become Dragon Ball Super’s Strongest Saiyan
While Dragon Ball GT didn’t develop Pan or Uub very well, Dragon Ball Super appears determined to give Gohan’s daughter the attention she deserves, especially as the original Dragon Ball story nears its conclusion. At just three years old, Pan is already demonstrating more strength and potential than Gohan did at the same age.
In Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero, we see Pan consistently training with Piccolo, suggesting she’ll be a much more powerful fighter by the time the 28th Tenkaichi Budokai arrives. Although she’s currently too young to have a significant role in the Black Frieza Saga, if Dragon Ball Super continues past the end of the original Dragon Ball Z story, Piccolo could continue training Pan while Goku trains Uub, potentially creating a rivalry between the two young warriors.
6. Broly is Being Set Up For Legendary Greatness
Bringing Broly into the official Dragon Ball storyline was a brilliant decision by Akira Toriyama. He transformed a previously simple villain, whose sole focus was Goku, into a complex and sympathetic character within Dragon Ball Super. Broly’s growth is central to the movie Dragon Ball Super: Broly, and it’s disappointing to see him sidelined since then.
Even though it’s a small part of the story, Chapter 103 of Dragon Ball Super continues to show Broly’s potential, especially during his practice fight with Gohan Beast. He’s getting better at controlling his power and Legendary Super Saiyan form. The artist, Toyotarou, keeps including Broly with the main characters – Goku, Gohan, Vegeta, and Piccolo – which suggests he’ll play a significant role in the upcoming Black Frieza Saga.
5. Piccolo Was the Real Main Character of Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero

Although Piccolo was Akira Toriyama’s personal favorite, the early seasons of Dragon Ball Super didn’t showcase him very well – he often felt like an afterthought until the Tournament of Power. Thankfully, the movie Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero gave Piccolo the spotlight he deserved, making him the central figure of the story, even more than Gohan.
While the Dragon Ball Super manga eventually focuses on Gohan as the main character for the movie adaptation, the original idea from creator Akira Toriyama was to highlight Piccolo. With his new Orange Piccolo form, Piccolo is now as strong as Goku and Vegeta, establishing him as one of the five most important characters in Dragon Ball Super. Hopefully, Piccolo will continue to be a key player, even into the upcoming Black Frieza Saga, and help defeat the villain.
4. Vegeta Has Never Been Closer to Being Better Than Goku

Since the Battle of Gods arc, Dragon Ball Super has given Vegeta a lot of great character growth – arguably even more than Goku. He’s developed significantly throughout the Moro and Granolah the Survivor sagas. In Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero, Vegeta even achieves a long-awaited victory over Goku in a fair fight, finally becoming the stronger of the two Saiyans (though that might not last forever).
Now that Vegeta has achieved Ultra Ego, he’s still developing his skills. Unlike Goku’s Ultra Instinct, Vegeta isn’t fully in control of this new form yet, suggesting the upcoming Black Frieza Saga will focus on his training and improvement. The manga artist, Toyotarou, clearly favors Vegeta, consistently giving him exciting battles and key moments in Dragon Ball Super. This makes it highly probable that Vegeta will continue to be as central to the story as Goku when the manga continues.
3. Goku Will Always Be the Glue That Holds Dragon Ball Together

Goku is essential to what makes Dragon Ball truly Dragon Ball. While characters like Gohan and Vegeta have become stronger, especially in Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero, Goku remains the heart of the series. He motivates others to improve, consistently faces the most powerful threats, and relentlessly trains to reach new levels of strength.
As a huge Dragon Ball fan, it’s been amazing watching Goku push Ultra Instinct further with each new arc since the Tournament of Power! He’s gotten so good, especially with what happened in the Granolah the Survivor Saga, that he’s almost at the level of the Angels. Okay, so he’s a little behind the other Saiyans right now, but I truly believe it’s only a matter of time before he has another breakthrough. Honestly, I think he’s the perfect one to finally take down Black Frieza for good!
2. Frieza Has Been Set Up as Dragon Ball Super’s Next, and Final, Villain

Frieza has experienced a major resurgence with Dragon Ball Super, arguably becoming more prominent than he was in the original Dragon Ball Z. He was brought back to life permanently after the Tournament of Power and has remained a key figure ever since, even serving as the main antagonist in the Dragon Ball Super: Broly movie. Currently, in the Dragon Ball Super manga’s ‘Granolah the Survivor’ arc, Black Frieza has become the most powerful being in the entire multiverse and is positioned as the central villain for the upcoming ‘Black Frieza’ arc.
Frieza has become incredibly powerful and a major threat, making it uncertain whether Goku and Vegeta can defeat him. He recently overpowered Gas, Goku, and Vegeta all at once. The author, Toyotarou, keeps hinting at a new, powerful form of Frieza through official artwork, strongly suggesting the next story arc will focus on him. Given how extreme the power levels have become in the series, it feels like Frieza is being set up as the ultimate villain of Dragon Ball Super.
1. Gohan is Once Again Dragon Ball’s Main Character – For Now

Being a fan of Gohan became tough after Dragon Ball Z ended. Both Dragon Ball GT and Dragon Ball Super didn’t do his character justice, reducing him from a major hero to a supporting character who never reached his full potential. While the Moro Saga in the Dragon Ball Super manga attempted to address this by making Gohan Earth’s strongest fighter again, it wasn’t until the movie Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero that he truly regained his position as the strongest Z-Fighter and a central character in the Dragon Ball story.
Currently, in Dragon Ball Super chapter 103, Gohan is taking center stage, receiving more attention and development than Goku and Vegeta. While this is likely to shift when the Black Frieza Saga truly begins, the artist, Toyotarou, continues to emphasize Gohan’s significance in official artwork. Notably, Gohan Beast recently defeated Ultra Instinct Goku. If the Black Frieza Saga continues directly after the events of Super Hero, Gohan will remain the primary focus of Dragon Ball Super – at least for the time being.
