With the PS5 out and doing great, it’s cool to look back at everything the PS4 gave us. You can find so many PS4 games for really cheap now, which is awesome! But, like with older consoles, some of the rarer PS4 titles are still super hard to find, and when you do find them, they can cost a fortune!
The world of rare PlayStation 4 games is huge, with limited editions, special collector’s items, and small publishers creating runs of unique indie titles. While rare games exist in other regions, we’ll be focusing specifically on NTSC-region PS4 games to keep things straightforward.
As a collector, I’ve been tracking prices on PriceCharting.com – that’s where most of the numbers come from, unless I specifically mention something else. I’m trying to be super thorough, so I’m definitely including all the special editions too! Honestly, a lot of the really hard-to-find PS4 games are those limited releases – they’re the ones that get pricey!
10. Assassin’s Creed Origins: Dawn of the Creed Legendary Edition
CIB Price: $838.46
| Loose | $753.84 |
|---|---|
| Complete in Box | $838.46 |
| New | $1,090 |
Assassin’s Creed Origins showed the very beginning of the Assassin Brotherhood, with Bayek of Siwa, a protector in ancient Egypt, caught in the conflict between Pharaoh Ptolemy XIII, the exiled Cleopatra VII, and Julius Caesar’s Roman Republic. The game was well-received, offering fans the stealth action they expect. While additional content was available for purchase, the Assassin’s Creed Origins: Dawn of the Creed Legendary Edition provided a comprehensive package.
As a huge fan, when I saw this special edition, I nearly lost it! It had absolutely everything – the game itself, the season pass for more content, a beautiful artbook, a detailed world map, collectible art cards, the awesome soundtrack, lithographs, a cool steelbook case, and even a replica of Bayek’s amulet! But the centerpiece was this incredible 28.7-inch resin statue of Bayek with his eagle, Senu. It was a dream package, though it originally cost a whopping $800. Honestly, seeing it go for around $838 now isn’t bad at all, considering everything you get. Of course, if you find a really pristine, high-quality copy, it can easily climb to $900 or even over $1,000 – but for a collector, it’s worth it!
9. NBA 2K19 Travis Scott Cover Edition
CIB Price: $848.98
| Loose | $763.41 |
|---|---|
| Complete in Box | $848.98 |
| New | $1,104 |
Travis Scott isn’t the most unusual celebrity to work with the NBA 2K series – Spike Lee actually directed a story mode for NBA 2K16. Scott contributes to the game’s music and is a genuine basketball fan. However, it’s hard to believe even a dedicated NBA 2K player would spend almost $1,000 on a copy of a game from around seven years ago, just because Travis Scott is featured on it.
The NBA 2K19 Travis Scott Cover Edition doesn’t include any special bonuses like season passes or collectibles. It’s simply the standard game with Travis Scott’s image and lyrics from his Astroworld album on the cover. However, it was produced in limited numbers – only a small fraction of all NBA 2K19 copies have this cover. Because of its rarity, authentic copies could be worth a significant amount of money, as long as their genuineness can be verified and they aren’t just a replacement cover.
8. Tamashii
CIB Price: $856
| Loose | $744.77 |
|---|---|
| Complete in Box | $856 |
| New | $1,334.80 |
Tamashii is a strange and unsettling puzzle-platformer. Players explore a mysterious temple, drawn in by the terrifying creature that dwells inside. To survive, they must navigate dangerous traps, obstacles, and enemies – failure means becoming another victim. If you enjoy the unsettling horror of Junji Ito, this game is for you, and it’s available digitally at a reasonable price on Steam and other online stores.
The physical copy of the game is much harder to find. A limited number were produced by Limited Rare Games (different from Limited Run) for Halloween 2020, and they quickly sold out. Now, the only way to get a copy is through resellers. Loose copies are currently selling for around $762, while complete-in-box versions are going for about $875. New copies have seen a significant price increase, reaching $1,395, and could potentially climb as high as $2,100 – a price it hit back in April 2022.
7. Inside Collector’s Edition
CIB Price: $890.84
| Loose | $592.63 |
|---|---|
| Complete in Box | $890.84 |
| New | $1,600 |
The critically acclaimed indie game, Inside, is easy to get your hands on. It’s available on all current gaming platforms and frequently goes on sale for a very low price. You can play Inside without any trouble, and if you prefer a physical copy, you can buy a bundle with the game Limbo for around $30. A standalone physical disc is also available for under $50, though it has limited availability.
There’s also a Collector’s Edition, made in partnership between Playdead and iam8bit. It originally cost $375, which was already quite pricey. Now, though, it’s selling for more than double that amount. It does come with a substantial collection of items, though, which explains the higher price.
6. Poop Slinger
CIB Price: $976.35
| Loose | $849 |
|---|---|
| Complete in Box | $976.35 |
| New | $2,200 |
Okay, so I recently heard about this game called Poop Slinger, and honestly, it’s exactly what you think it is – you literally throw poop at people! The more you…sling, the more stuff unlocks. It costs $4.99 to download, but even that feels like too much for how bad it is. But get this – Limited Rare Games actually made 84 physical copies of this game and are selling them! I just…I don’t even know what to think.
This game has become the most expensive PlayStation 4 title to find. Used discs now sell for around $850, and unopened copies can go for $2,200. Some have even sold on eBay for as much as $4,000, and in rare cases, even $17,000 – all for a silly game about throwing poop. Let’s hope people achieve this level of dedication to something worthwhile again someday.
5. The Walking Dead: The Telltale Definitive Series Signature Pack
CID: $1000
| Loose | $869.57 |
|---|---|
| Complete in Box | $1,000 |
| New | $1,300 |
Telltale Games damaged its reputation when it filed for bankruptcy. While the company still exists, it had to lay off many employees. Fortunately, Skybound Games stepped in to help finish the popular The Walking Dead video game series, releasing a complete “Definitive Series” collection. This allowed players to experience Clementine’s story from start to finish, with updated visuals and bonus content like behind-the-scenes footage, a digital soundtrack, and a 3D model viewer.
Okay, so this game had three Collector’s Editions, and the Signature Pack was the holy grail. It included everything from the basic edition – you know, the t-shirt, pins, little figures – and then stuff from the Guardian Pack like signed stuff from the developers and an art print by Eric Zawadzki. But the Signature Pack had even more exclusive things, like a special box and a signed art print. They were even planning a cool Clementine and Lee diorama, but that got scrapped, which probably would’ve made them even more expensive. The craziest part? They only made 100 Signature Packs! I’ve seen them go for around $1,000 now, which is insane considering they originally retailed for $250. They’ve actually quadrupled in price!
4. Titanfall 2 Collector’s Edition
CIB Price: $1144.09
| Loose | $505 |
|---|---|
| Complete in Box | $1144.09 |
| New | $1417.27 |
Titanfall 2 is considered one of the best first-person shooter games on the PlayStation 4, and it still holds up remarkably well today. While standard physical copies of the game, including the Deluxe Edition, are now very affordable, “collector’s editions” can be much more expensive. The PAL region’s Collector’s Edition costs around $500, but the NTSC version for PS4 is significantly pricier.
This item typically costs over $1,000 now, though it used to be more affordable. Previously, you could find a CIB (complete in box) version for between $400 and $600, which was a much better price. Because so few of these are available, each sale has a noticeable impact on its market price. It’s expected that the price will continue to increase as time goes on.
3. Nier Automata Black Box Edition
CIB Price: $1175
| Loose | $510.86 |
|---|---|
| Complete in Box | $1175 |
| New | $1528 |
The Nier Automata Black Box Edition is a limited release that’s become incredibly expensive these days, but when you look at what’s inside, it’s fairly typical for this kind of special edition. It includes the game itself, a small art book, a 2B figurine (which you could find for around $20 in Akihabara), and the game’s soundtrack. Honestly, there’s nothing particularly impressive about it, and even the original price of $189.99 felt a bit high.
This box set is quite pricey now. PriceCharting estimates its value at $1175 when complete and in box, but you can often find it on eBay for between $500 and $800. It’s still a significant investment, but more affordable than the highest listed price.
2. Reydllom: Exorcized Edition
New: $1499.99
| Loose | N/A |
|---|---|
| Complete in Box | N/A |
| New | $1499.99 (Last Sale) |
Over the last ten years, stories about haunted video games have become overused. Despite this, Limited Rare Games released a game called Reydllom with that very premise, claiming it was discovered on a PlayStation 4 from an estate sale. This is despite the game originally being sold exclusively through the PlayStation Store. Reydllom is a survival horror game where players attempt to escape a terrifying witch. Limited Rare Games initially sold the game for $30, but now used copies are selling for between $50 and $60.
A small number of copies were specially released with a different cover and sealed in plastic, marketed as having been ‘examined’ by the FBI. These ‘exorcized’ editions are now valued at around $10,000, or $13,580 if still new. PriceCharting.com likely recognized this as a potential scam and has removed the price history for these special editions, only showing prices for standard, loose copies and professionally graded ones. Even at around $1,500, these editions seem quite expensive.
We used the latest price during the recent sale because PriceCharting doesn’t list a price for a complete-in-box version of this game.
1. Elden Ring Premium Collector’s Edition
CIB Price: $1923.08
| Loose | $1785.71 |
|---|---|
| Complete in Box | $1923.08 |
| New | $2500 |
Special editions of games made by FromSoftware are some of the hardest to find on PlayStation 4, though the exact rarest version depends on where you are. In Europe and countries that use the PAL format, the Dark Souls 3 Prestige Edition and Dark Souls Trilogy Collector’s Edition are incredibly expensive, costing around $2500 and $1965 respectively. These two editions are the most valuable PS4 games overall. The Elden Ring Premium Collector’s Edition is close behind in Europe, but it’s actually the most expensive PS4 package in regions that use the NTSC format, typically selling for around $2000.
This special edition of Elden Ring includes a poster, woven patch, steelbook case, a Malenia statue, art cards, stickers, a digital soundtrack, a hardcover artbook, and a replica helmet. Originally, a more basic version of this edition was available for $189.99, but it didn’t include the helmet. This edition was produced in limited quantities, and pre-orders had to be closed due to high demand.
