This article contains spoilers from My Hero Academia Season 8.
Season 8 of My Hero Academia is coming to an end after delivering powerful and moving episodes each week. Fans have been deeply invested as Izuku Midoriya and the injured heroes fight against the overwhelmingly evil All For One and Tomura Shigaraki. The season has shown the heroes battling until the very end.
Now that the heroes have won, it’s time to celebrate the most powerful characters from the final season of My Hero Academia. They’ve earned our appreciation for their incredible efforts, pushing themselves to the limit and risking everything to achieve their goals. Series creator Kohei Horikoshi crafted these amazing characters, each with unique abilities that played a key role in the epic Final War arc.
This article only includes characters who showed exceptional strength in My Hero Academia Season 8.
Kunieda
He Defeated 31 Heroes With His Plant Growth Quirk
In the first episode of My Hero Academia Season 8, Kunieda, a skilled escape artist from Tartarus, demonstrated incredible control over his plant-based quirk. He impressively defeated 31 heroes – including the Pro Hero Fat Gum – with his carnivorous plants, seemingly using them as nourishment for further growth. Essentially, his plants function as extensions of his own body, connected through their root systems.
Honestly, Kunieda’s plants are a real nightmare – they just keep growing, even after he’s gone! It’s a super frustrating thing, but they spread incredibly fast and become seriously dangerous once they’re fully grown. If it hadn’t been for Hagakure, Aoyama could have taken down so many more heroes, it’s scary to think about!
Toru Hagakure
She Turned Aoyama’s Lasers on Kunieda
Toru Hagakure, the often overlooked invisible girl, proved to be a surprisingly powerful and brave hero in the final season of My Hero Academia. She skillfully used her invisibility to help her team and even change the outcome of important battles. Villains, including the formidable All For One, definitely didn’t see her coming and she unexpectedly disrupted his plans to defeat Deku.
In the first episode, Toru used her powerful new move, Warp Refraction: Navel Laser, which amplified Aoyama’s lasers into a beam strong enough to defeat Kunieda. She didn’t stop there, though – Toru also redirected All For One’s huge laser attack, shielding her friends and creating an opportunity for Izuku to counterattack.
Yuga Aoyama
His Navel Laser Quirk Evolved
Yuga Aoyama was once seen as a traitor because he was manipulated by All For One, who threatened his family. All For One actually gave him his powerful Navel Laser quirk – Aoyama wasn’t born with one, similar to Izuku. Later, Aoyama switched sides and fought against All For One, but this act of defiance nearly killed him when an assassin from Tartarus, named Kunieda, attacked him.
Despite facing immense personal struggles and a dangerously unstable quirk – one that leaked power uncontrollably while being sustained by Kunieda’s flesh-eating plants – Aoyama managed to overcome the situation. With Toru’s assistance, he used his laser to defeat Kunieda and destroy the remaining plants, which had been growing by consuming the fallen heroes’ bodies.
Stain
He Stopped AFO From Killing All Might
The final scenes with Stain in My Hero Academia Season 8 are powerful and show his strong beliefs and lasting impact on both All Might and the villains. While his efforts only provided a temporary pause, that time was essential in protecting All Might from a more devastating attack by a younger All For One.
After breaking out of prison, Stain could have remained in hiding, but he deliberately revealed himself and even used his Quirk, Bloodcurdle, to briefly stop All For One from defeating All Might. While All For One expected Stain to act against him, the fact that Bloodcurdle could interrupt his attacks, even for a split second, proves just how incredibly skilled and determined Stain was. Rest in peace, Hero Killer.
Shoto Todoroki
His Stamina and Fighting Spirit Have No Bounds
I remember watching Season 7 of My Hero Academia and being really impressed by Shoto Todoroki’s powerful attack – Phosphor and Great Glacial Aegir – it was key to taking down Dabi. But as we moved into the final season, Shoto wasn’t featured as much. The focus really shifted to the big battles between All For One and All Might, and then Deku versus Shigaraki, so he ended up taking a backseat.
Even after a grueling fight with Dabi where he pushed himself to his limit, Shoto appeared during the final attack on All For One in My Hero Academia Season 8, Episode 8. He worked with his father to clear a path for Deku, offering crucial support. He also helped Bakugo by quickly creating an ice ramp, which allowed Bakugo to defeat Kurogiri.
Armored All Might
He Accelerated AFO’s De-Aging Process
All Might, a symbol of peace, was almost defeated in his last fight against All For One. Just when he was about to give up, he used everything he had to build a powerful suit designed to stop his greatest enemy. Though the battle left him unable to use his quirk, All Might’s determination remained strong, inspiring him to continue protecting his students and giving people hope.
If All Might hadn’t fought so bravely, All For One would have taken over Shigaraki’s body much faster. Their final battle was incredibly destructive, giving Izuku precious time while also causing All For One to become physically weaker. All Might’s suit was heavily damaged, but he kept fighting, even when his body was pushed to its breaking point.
All For One
He Is Evil Incarnate
Season 8 of My Hero Academia really shows us that All For One isn’t just powerful – he’s deeply lonely. He has incredible, unmatched strength built from stealing abilities from others, and he’s driven by goals that go far beyond what’s right or wrong. This combination makes him a formidable opponent who can control almost anything and anyone.
The final season showcased All For One’s overwhelming power, throwing the heroes into disarray and creating a chaotic battle. It took a combined effort from Endeavor, a powered-up All Might, Bakugo, and ultimately Izuku Midoriya to finally defeat him, solidifying his reputation as the series’ most terrifying villain.
Katsuki Bakugo
He Destroyed AFO and Kurogiri With a Broken Body
In My Hero Academia Season 8, a special technique called Edgeshot saved Katsuki Bakugo from a deadly attack by Shigaraki Tomura, allowing him to return to the fight. His comeback was a standout moment, as he immediately rejoined the battle with his signature explosive power.
Bakugo played a critical role in the final battle, rescuing All Might and ultimately defeating All For One after he was weakened. He even pushed himself to work with Izuku, destroying Kurogiri, who was shielding Shigaraki. All of this happened immediately after Edgeshot had to undergo a life-saving procedure to restart his heart and lungs.
Shigaraki Tomura
He Surpassed AFO
Shigaraki Tomura is incredibly powerful, able to steal people’s quirks – even those from the previous users of One For All. He heals extremely quickly, and his ability to use the vast number of quirks he’s stolen makes him a nearly unbeatable opponent.
His intense hatred and inner darkness give him incredible, almost unmatched power in battle. Even more remarkably, despite being used as a host for All For One, Shigaraki managed to maintain his own awareness until the very end, resisting complete control.
Izuku Midoriya
He Is the Undisputed Hero of the Final Season
Izuku Midoriya finishes the list, having gone to incredible lengths to defeat All For One and attempt to save Shigaraki Tomura. While he couldn’t have faced Shigaraki without the power of One For All and the abilities of its previous users, their guidance allowed him to become the only one who could effectively counter Shigaraki’s immense power and constantly changing abilities through diverse quirk combinations.
It’s still debated whether Izuku could defeat Shigaraki in a no-holds-barred fight, but it’s clear that Izuku in My Hero Academia Season 8 is incredibly powerful. Beyond his strength, he’s also determined to overcome Shigaraki’s deep-seated hatred and reach the hurt child within.
