11. Drakengard 3
The Best Of Its Series
In Japan, it’s famously recognized as “Drakengard 3,” but globally, it’s known by that name. This is one of Yoko Taro’s cult favorites, linked in storyline with the highly respected “NieR” series. In this game, you embody Zero, a strong-willed yet profane Intoner on a quest to eliminate her five sisters, accompanied by an array of vibrant companions.
In addition to intense ground battles where you’ll leave your adversaries’ blood trails behind, the game offers aerial combat on dragons, allowing you to attack targets with style as you deftly navigate through the skies. However, some players may find that the ground combat and movement are sluggish, similar to moving through thick syrup.

This game is featured due to its Legendary Dark Knight mode, which is only available in the PC and current-generation console versions’ special edition, as it offers an exclusive challenge level.
Instead of raising the challenge level directly, the Epic Dark Knight mode intensifies combat by increasing the quantity of adversaries visible on your screen simultaneously. This strategic setup offers an optimal opportunity to perform an impressive Judgement Cut Finish, wiping out as many as fifty enemies in a single swoop.
9. Prototype
A Human Can Opener
If you were to cram excessive violence and unintended harm to civilians into a gruesome action game, that would be very much like the experience of playing Prototype and its subsequent title.
As I traverse an open-world New York City reminiscent of ‘Spider-Man 2’, I glide and scale walls with ease, but rather than apprehending villains, I’m wreaking havoc by slashing through soldiers and civilians in droves. To add to the chaos, I must also defend myself against hordes of infected monsters using my sword hands and gigantic claws.
The atmosphere, style, and gritty edge of the Prototype series strongly evoke the mid-2000s. To put it simply, transforming into a creature by consuming people is undeniably both terrifyingly thrilling and fascinating. If you’re someone who enjoys wreaking havoc, the Prototype games are certainly for you.
8. Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance
The DNA Of The Soul
Setting jokes apart, Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance stands out as one of PlatinumGames’ finest creations. It offers explosive cyborg warfare, allowing players to dismember foes with style, all while accompanied by a striking and unforgettable soundtrack.
In a twist from the original Metal Gear series’ stealthy gameplay, Rising follows Raiden – once a child soldier and now a cyborg ninja – as he works to prevent global turmoil while simultaneously exploring his personal motivation for combat, seeking his genuine purpose in the fight.
During the course of the game, Raiden battles hordes of cyborg infantry, each containing energizing electrolytes, and engages in memorable showdowns against legendary bosses.

Space Marines 2 boasts an array of evenly matched character classes, each offering distinct gameplay approaches. I particularly enjoy hurling myself into a horde of adversaries as the Bulwark, who stands strong and protects my allies, or obliterating hordes of creatures with an endless supply of grenades as the Tactical.
Space Marines 2 continues to receive periodic updates, focusing mainly on enhancing its Player versus Environment (PvE) aspect, introducing fresh challenges and missions.
5. NieR: Automata
Machine Lifeforms Matter
PlatinumGames is renowned for creating top-tier hack-and-slash games, with NieR: Automata potentially serving as their, along with Yoko Taro’s, greatest masterpiece.
In a distant future with scant traces of humankind, you assume the role of uniquely attractive androids armed with colossal swords, battling waves of mechanical entities while executing agile movements akin to superhuman speed.
1) Battling through large groups of opponents offers a great sense of fulfillment, and the game’s movement system enables you to skillfully avoid incoming barrages of bullets.
Just as with any Yoko Taro title, this game is designed to be played multiple times, as its narrative unfolds most effectively when you encounter all five of its main conclusions. Although it may not resemble the classic style of Dynasty Warriors, NieR: Automata should definitely be on your playlist for anyone who enjoys action role-playing games.

3. Fire Emblem Warriors: Three Hopes

Since both series are primarily focused on vast battlefields, it’s entirely logical that the setting for Fire Emblem would blend seamlessly with the Warriors franchise. Fire Emblem Warriors: Three Hopes is a spin-off from Fire Emblem Three Houses, following in the footsteps of the 2017 game, Fire Emblem Warriors.
In a different timeline, where Byleth assumes the role of the antagonist, you take on the character of Shez, who enrolls at an elite military academy to join one of the three houses highlighted in the game “Fire Emblem.” Your objective is to experience their unique stories.
In addition to the two novel figures added especially for this game, you’ll have the chance to fight and strategize with cherished characters from the “Three Houses” game. You can also customize their combat techniques, weapons, and magical abilities.
2. Hyrule Warriors: Age Of Calamity

In a time period one century prior to “The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild”, and serving as a Musou spin-off from the series, “Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity” explores the Great Calamity from an alternate perspective. This perspective is through a Guardian who travels through time and cautions the heroes about the destiny that lies ahead in their struggle against Calamity Ganon.
In the engaging narrative of “Age of Calamity“, it skillfully fills in the blanks regarding Hyrule’s downfall from the original game. This tale provides our beloved heroes with much-needed limelight, paving the way for their successors to carry on the legacy.
Additionally, numerous instances featuring the original Champions make us grow fonder of them, while surprisingly providing Master Kohga of the Yiga Clan with genuine character growth as well, making him more endearing.
In simple terms, “Age of Calamity” is a follow-up and enhanced version of the original “Hyrule Warriors“, allowing you to fight off waves of adversaries using your preferred characters from “Breath of the Wild“.

Like Mashing Your Gunpla Together
Among all Musou-style games, I must confess that the Gundam Warriors series undeniably ranks among my top favorites. Despite a plot and lore that may seem incomprehensible to casual fans, its exhilarating gameplay and cool mech designs are sure to make you exclaim “awesome!
This work doesn’t just mirror the straightforward battles typical of the Warriors series; it also honors the Gundam franchise by featuring a wide array of Pilots and Mobile Suits.
On weekends afternoons, I often found myself engrossed in my PS3, battling through numerous Gundam Warriors games. With the Burning Gundam or Unicorn Gundam’s extraordinary moves, I would decimate swarms of lesser enemies, leaving nothing but rubble on the screen.
Although Gundam Warriors may not rank as the finest game, it embodies the essence of the Gundam series and the arcade-style play similar to any title from the Warriors franchise in an authentic manner, akin to any game developed by Omega Force.
If there’s one thing Omega Force is good at, it’s making consistent spin-offs.
