15 Years Later, Eiichiro Oda Sets Up The Biggest Revenge In One Piece

Eiichiro Oda, the creator of One Piece, generally avoids killing off major characters, but tragic deaths do happen. One of the most heartbreaking was Portgas D. Ace’s death at Marineford, where he died trying to save his brother Luffy. These deaths often lead to storylines about revenge, and fans already know Ace’s death fueled a rivalry between Luffy and Akainu. However, Oda recently hinted at an even larger revenge plot, this time involving Blackbeard and his father, Rocks D. Xebec.

For much of the One Piece story, Blackbeard’s past was a secret, but we’re now learning about it through the events at God Valley. There, his father, Rocks D. Xebec, was taken from him and forced to kill his own family by Imu. Rocks ultimately died a shameful death at God Valley, at the request of Roger and Garp. Now, Blackbeard may face even more hardship, and it all centers around Imu, the King of the World. It seems likely that Blackbeard will seek revenge on Imu, avenging his entire family – including his father Rocks and mother Eris – and attempting to reclaim his family’s throne.

The God Valley arc in One Piece is coming to a close, and it’s been a thrilling ride filled with new backstory, particularly about Blackbeard and Shanks. We’ve learned a lot more about the world of One Piece, especially the mysterious Void Century, through the story of Rocks D. Xebec. Eiichiro Oda has now revealed Rocks D. Xebec’s family history, and consequently, Blackbeard’s as well. It turns out their ancestor is Davy D. Jones, a powerful figure who once controlled the world before Imu took over.

Since taking power from Jones, Imu has been relentlessly pursuing the last members of the Davy Clan. Almost all of them were killed at God Valley, with only Blackbeard and Eris surviving. Rocks D. Xebec’s fate was particularly heartbreaking; he was transformed into a slave demon and forced to fight his own family. Thankfully, Garp and Roger ended his suffering at his own request.

This has been a deeply upsetting experience for Blackbeard, and his troubles may not be over – his mother’s fate in the upcoming flashbacks looks grim. This painful history is driving his anger and directing it towards Imu, who took everything from him as a child – his family, his clan, and even his father and mother.

It’s easy to see why Blackbeard has been planning for so long – he wants to get revenge on Imu and take back his family’s kingdom. This storyline with Blackbeard seems to be building towards the biggest act of revenge we’ve seen in One Piece so far.

Blackbeard Might Kill Imu to Avenge His Family

Blackbeard is determined to defeat Imu, but he can’t do it by himself. According to Rocks D. Xebec, defeating the World Government requires having two specific Devil Fruits. Blackbeard already possesses the Yami Yami no Mi, and it seems he needs the Hito Hito no Mi, Model: Nika – currently held by Luffy – to complete the task.

So, Blackbeard needs to strike when Luffy does if he wants to get his revenge. It seems these two rivals will have to team up to take down the biggest threat in the world of One Piece, Imu.
