It’s been reported that the highly anticipated Xbox console exclusives, “Gears of War: E-Day” and “State of Decay 3”, may also be available on the PlayStation 5. If this news is accurate, it would represent an extension of Microsoft’s strategy to make more Xbox games playable on competing consoles.
In early 2024, Microsoft started moving away from console exclusivity with the aim of adopting a more conventional third-party publishing approach. Since this change, the company has released over a dozen games on competing consoles. Most recently, Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3 + 4 was simultaneously launched on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, and Switch on July 11.
E-Day. The game E-Day, a prequel to the original trilogy, is currently aiming for a 2026 release but has not yet announced a specific date. However, the resume in question does not specify whether E-Day will be a launch title for the PS5.
State of Decay 3 Reportedly Also in Development for PS5
In a similar vein, an employee at Undead Labs has listed the PlayStation 5 as one of the intended platforms for the next major installment of the State of Decay series on their online resume. Initially slated for release this year, the game has allegedly been postponed to 2026 without a definitive launch date yet. The updated resume does not provide details about whether the game will have a simultaneous multi-platform release or if it will be released on PS5 later, similar to Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, which was launched earlier in 2025 on other platforms as well.

As a dedicated gamer, I’ve been eagerly waiting for the day when “Gears of War” would grace the PlayStation console, much like how “State of Decay” has only graced Xbox systems. Unlike “State of Decay,” however, Microsoft has officially confirmed that “Gears of War” will indeed make its way to PlayStation, a fact announced back in May 2025 with the unveiling of “Gears of War: Reloaded.” This exciting remaster of the original series entry is set for a day-one release on the PS5 on August 26.
It’s being speculated that several Xbox games, such as Avowed, South of Midnight, Starfield, Microsoft Flight Simulator, Halo: The Master Chief Collection, and Rare Replay, are rumored to be in development for multi-platform releases.
