According to a recent leak, the initial pair of “The Sims” video games will allegedly receive an upgrade, potentially making them available for players as soon as January 2025.
4th February will be the 25th anniversary of the iconic video game series, The Sims, and Electronic Arts has been making it clear on social media that they’re excited about this milestone. Most recently, on January 27, they started a five-day event, The Sims Nostalgia Now, to celebrate their life simulator series. This special occasion began with a video showcasing the Plumbob gems from the first two games in the franchise. Some fans have speculated that this could mean a return of The Sims 1 and 2 in some form or another.
According to a source close to the matter who chose to remain anonymous, Kotaku’s report indicates that remastered versions of the first two “The Sims” games are expected to be released this month. This means they could potentially hit the market as early as January 31st. These updated games are rumored to include all content from expansions such as Apartment Life, FreeTime, Bon Voyage, and more for both “The Sims 1” and “The Sims 2”.
EA’s First ‘The Sims Nostalgia Now’ Teaser
The specific costs of the proposed remakes remain undefined, nor is it certain which devices they will be released on. Earlier versions of The Sims have been adapted for consoles, but they differed significantly from their PC counterparts. For example, console versions of The Sims 2 featured a story mode and allowed local multiplayer in split-screen, as well as enabling players to directly control their characters instead of clicking on destinations. If Electronic Arts chooses to launch the remakes on consoles, they may strive for equal functionality with the PC editions, especially given current industry trends and Electronic Arts’ past practices.
It’s Been Years Since The Sims 1 and 2 Were Easily Playable
For quite a while now, getting a hold of The Sims 1 has been quite challenging due to it being a physical-only release that never saw digital distribution. Its successor was initially available as a downloadable package named The Sims 2: Ultimate Collection. This was essentially a free bonus for fans who could demonstrate they owned the original game’s physical copy in the past. Regrettably, this collection was taken offline from Origin somewhere between 2014 and 2018. With Origin being closed down, even those fans who had previously managed to acquire The Sims 2: Ultimate Collection are reportedly having trouble moving it over to the EA App.
