First released in 2009, Brutal Legend features non-player characters based on real heavy metal musicians, including Osbourne himself. This game is known as one of Double Fine’s most eccentric releases due to its unique blend of gameplay mechanics from diverse genres.

On July 22nd, Ozzy Osbourne, famously known as “Ozzy,” passed away at the age of 76. This occurred just two weeks after he reunited with Black Sabbath for a charity concert titled “Back to the Beginning” in Birmingham, England. On social media, Double Fine announced that for 666 minutes, _Brutal Legend_ would be free, ending at 6:06 AM Eastern on July 24. This offer was available for Windows, macOS, and Linux users via itch.io. After signing up or logging into a free itch.io account, users could download a 7.6 GB ZIP file containing _Brutal Legend_, without any digital rights management (DRM). First released as an exclusive console game four years ago, the PC port of _Brutal Legend_ was launched in 2013, featuring enhancements such as anti-aliasing and extended render distances. As revealed by Double Fine director Tim Schaefer, _Brutal Legend_ was influenced by his personal musical background, and it takes place in a fanciful world reminiscent of heavy metal album cover artwork from various decades.

The Guardian of Metal assists the main character, Eddie Riggs, in Brutal Legend, providing enhancements for his Seperator axe and his guitar named Clementine (Flying V).
