2024 Nintendo Switch Exclusive Now Available on PlayStation

The game *The Legend of Steel Empire* is now available on PlayStation after previously being exclusive to Nintendo Switch. You can find it on the PlayStation Store.

First released in 1992 as *Koutetsu Teikoku* in Japan, *Steel Empire* is a beloved classic game for the Sega Genesis, created by the now-closed HOT・B studio. Over the years, it’s been updated for several platforms, including the Game Boy Advance (2004) and 3DS (2014). Medius, a Japanese studio, remastered it for PC in 2018, and then partnered with German publisher ININ Games to create an expanded version for the Switch in 2024, which they titled *The Legend of Steel Empire*.

The Legend of Steel Empire Debuts on PlayStation Consoles

The popular arcade shooter, *The Legend of Steel Empire*, is now available on PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5, in addition to Nintendo Switch. It launched on the PS Store on October 9th for $24.99 – the same price as the Nintendo eShop version. Early player reviews are very positive, with a 4.73-star rating, but it’s based on a small number of reviews (only 15 so far). This suggests initial sales on PlayStation are in the hundreds of units, rather than thousands.

In *The Legend of Steel Empire*, you can play as either a fast, agile Striker plane or a tough, heavily armored Zeppelin equipped with aerial mines. Both machines can shoot enemies in front of and behind them, leading to exciting, fast-paced battles. The game also features screen-clearing bombs, a classic element of shoot ’em up games, and a unique world inspired by steampunk and dieselpunk styles.

The Legend of Steel Empire has a unique style, presenting its story like a classic war movie. The game centers around the Steel Empire—also called the Motorheads—a powerful military dictatorship that has enslaved most of the world. The only country fighting back is the Republic of Silverhead, located in Antarctica. Though much smaller in size, Silverhead has far more advanced technology, which makes it a prime target for the Steel Empire. The Empire, which still uses coal and steam power, sees Silverhead’s atomic energy and other innovations as a dangerous threat – one that could spark a worldwide rebellion.

This updated version of *Steel Empire* adds a leveling system that adjusts to your progress, giving the classic shoot-em-up a role-playing game feel. It’s now available on more than just Nintendo Switch, breaking the exclusivity it had since late January 2024. However, there are no plans to release *The Legend of Steel Empire* on other platforms for now.
