In a thrilling turn of events, the second trailer for Danny Boyle and Alex Garland’s eagerly awaited post-apocalyptic horror titled “28 Years Later” was unveiled at CinemaCon, offering tantalizing glimpses before its summer premiere. This long-awaited sequel to the original “28 Days Later” serves as the launchpad for a trilogy within the franchise, introducing fresh characters to the storyline. The 2002 film starred Cillian Murphy as Jim, a bicycle messenger who awoke from a coma in a hospital only to discover that the world he once knew had been ravaged by a highly contagious and violently aggressive virus, leading to widespread chaos within society.
In December of last year, the inaugural trailer for the zombie-ridden movie titled 28 Years Later was released, showcasing Taylor-Johnson traversing verdant English landscapes armed with a bow and arrow. The trailer brimmed with spine-tingling atmosphere, fast-moving undead creatures, and military personnel being assaulted by an infected individual with a beard. To top it off, the chilling audio of Taylor Holmes reciting Rudyard Kipling’s war poem “Boots” was featured. This trailer struck a cord with zombie enthusiasts, amassing 60.2 million views within its first day and securing the third spot for most-watched horror trailers ever. To further fuel excitement, Sony Pictures recently offered a sneak peek of 28 Years Later to a select audience at CinemaCon. Additionally, it was disclosed that Sony has only backed the production of the first two sequels, leaving the future of the third installment undecided.
Danny Boyle Shows off 28 Years Later Trailer at CinemaCon

At Sony’s CinemaCon event, where ScreenRant was present, director Danny Boyle (known for films like Shallow Grave, Trainspotting, and Slumdog Millionaire) unveiled a trailer for his upcoming zombie movie, titled “28 Years Later.” Interestingly, he mentioned that the second installment of this trilogy, named “28 Years Later: The Bone Temple,” has been produced, but they are still seeking financial backing to complete it. As per ScreenRant’s report, the trailer commenced in a dimly lit room where military personnel and a zombie startled them. The scene then transitioned to another part of the movie, showcasing an island and a voiceover saying, “Many people are dead, both infected and not. Once you step foot on that mainland, there’s no rescue.
In the trailer, we observe Aaron Taylor-Johnson and a young lad fleeing from approximately a dozen infected individuals. Subsequently, military personnel appear, this time during daylight, similarly in flight from the infected. The trailer presents numerous scenes of people battling and running away from the infected. Many of these events seem to occur around an island and near water bodies. Throughout the trailer, the splash pages pose the question: “How Much Time…Do We…Have Left?” This is rephrased to convey a more natural and easy-to-understand language.
The public hasn’t had access to the full trailer for “28 Years Later” as of now, but some fresh snapshots from the teaser have been unveiled. These images offer a sneak peek into what fans might encounter in the movie. In one image, actors Aaron Taylor-Johnson and Alfie Williams are seen in a room with an infected person hanging upside down. There seems to be a close resemblance to the zombie previously thought to be Cillian Murphy in another field shot. The duo, Taylor-Johnson and Williams, can also be spotted peering through a crack in a door, and lastly, an image of them patrolling the outskirts of their island base is shown.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, at the event, Boyle expressed that he continues to be captivated by an apocalypse scenario. He also shared his enthusiasm for both the infected characters and explosive scenes, stating, “I still have a fondness for mayhem.” Additionally, Boyle teased fans who are eagerly anticipating Cillian Murphy’s appearance in the film, saying, “Patience is key when it comes to enjoying the best things in life. You may need to wait a bit before he graces your screen.
28 Years Later will be released in theaters on June 20, 2025.
