2K and Firaxis reveal Civilization 7 opening cinematic

As a seasoned gamer with decades of strategy games under my belt, I must say, the reveal of Civilization 7 has me positively thrilled! From the hauntingly beautiful opening cinematic to the powerful and evocative main theme “Live Gloriously”, this game promises an immersive experience like no other.

2K Games, in collaboration with developer Firaxis Games, unveiled the introductory video for their much-awaited 2025 game, titled Civilization 7.

The team explains that the opening movie is narrated by Gwendoline Christie, who’s known for “Game of Thrones” and “Star Wars”. This film takes viewers on an adventure spanning different eras. A hidden, rusty sword discovered by a solitary farmer serves as the focus. As we watch, we see how this sword changes hands over time, moving between various cultures and global regions. This reflects the main idea of the game – that history is complex and layered.

Beyond the introductory movie, the main theme for Civilization VII titled “Live Gloriously” was unveiled as well. As shared by composer Christopher Tin, “Live Gloriously” aims to encapsulate timeless themes such as hope, heroism, and mortality that have echoed throughout history. By incorporating excerpts from The Iliad, Beowulf, Popol Vuh, and Ramayana, the composition evokes a profound sense of solemnity and emotion that reflects the human experience.


 

In Civilization VII, your strategic choices mold the distinctive cultural legacy of your growing civilization. Play as various iconic figures from history, and determine the direction of your narrative by selecting a new civilization to symbolize your empire for each era of human progression.
