2K Games is Launching a New Studio Headed by ex-The Initiative Leadership

A new studio has been formed within 2K Games by two former leaders from The Initiative. Both individuals previously contributed to the development of the cancelled Perfect Dark game for Xbox.

Microsoft and Xbox created The Initiative, a new game development studio, and put Darrell Gallagher, who previously led Crystal Dynamics, in charge. They hired talented developers from well-known studios like Rockstar, Santa Monica Studio, and Naughty Dog. The studio began working on a remake of Perfect Dark, but the game was cancelled and the studio closed earlier this year. Now, Darrell Gallagher and another former employee are starting a new studio under 2K Games.

Former Perfect Dark Leads from The Initiative Launch New Studio for 2K Games

Darrell Gallagher, who previously led the studio The Initiative, has announced on LinkedIn that he’s joining 2K Games. He’ll be the head of a new studio – the name hasn’t been revealed yet – and will hold the position of Senior Vice President. You can find his announcement below.

Gallagher announced they are joining 2K as Senior Vice President and Studio Head, where they will be launching a new studio and tackling a major new challenge. They expressed excitement about bringing talented people together to achieve a bold vision, and are eager to work with the 2K team.

Brian Horton, who previously led creative efforts on the Perfect Dark project at The Initiative, has announced he’s joining Darrell as VP and Head of Creative. Before that, Horton was Creative Director for popular games like Marvel’s Spider-Man and the still-in-development Marvel’s Wolverine. Details about the new game or other team members haven’t been released. However, this is a significant addition, and it offers a glimpse into the kinds of stories The Initiative might have created if it hadn’t been shut down.
