PlayStation 5 players have a new fighting game to look forward to in early 2026! The game, which will be free to play, had its release date revealed a bit earlier than expected. It’s shaping up to be a great year for PS5 owners, and this news adds even more excitement.
I’m so hyped for 2XKO! It’s a 2v2 fighting game based in the League of Legends universe. It was first announced back in 2019 as Project L, and honestly, it’s been on my radar ever since. What’s really cool is that it lets you use your favorite League champions, but in a totally different way. It’s all about switching between fighters strategically, balancing attack and defense to win. It feels like a fresh take on the characters we already love!
2XKO Release Date
- January 20, 2026
Riot Games appears to have accidentally revealed the release date for 2XKO through a prematurely published YouTube trailer. Although the trailer was quickly set to private, fans were able to spot the release date: January 20, 2026. This makes 2XKO one of the first major game releases planned for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S in 2026, as Riot Games had previously confirmed it would be available on both platforms.

PC players have already had a chance to try out the new fighting game, which is available to download and play for free, directly from Riot Games’ website. The game, called 2XKO, launched in early access on October 7th, and previous closed beta tests helped build a following within the fighting game community. Players have praised its simple, easy-to-understand combat, straightforward controls, and the unique ability to switch between different characters during battles. A system called the Fuse System also lets players create powerful team combinations. While some have criticized the limited number of playable characters and feel the game prioritizes ease of play over complexity, it’s still in early access, so Riot Games has time to add more characters and refine the gameplay.
Currently, the fighting game 2XKO features 11 playable characters, all of whom come from League of Legends and have been visually updated for the new game. The initial lineup includes Ahri, Blitzcrank, Braum, Darius, Ekko, Illaoi, Jinx, Teemo, Vi, Warwick, and Yasuo. While League of Legends has a much larger roster of 172 champions, it’s unclear if the console release of 2XKO will add more playable characters. Riot Games hasn’t announced any plans to expand the roster at launch.
PlayStation and Xbox players won’t have to wait much longer for 2XKO. Riot Games also has other League of Legends games in development, though they’re further off. A massive online role-playing game set in the world of Runeterra is confirmed, and many fans predict it will launch around 2027. In addition, Riot is working on a story-driven adventure game, often called Project F or Untitled Adventure Game, but it likely won’t be released for quite some time.
