Players of Riot’s new fighting game, 2XKO, are expressing concerns about the cost of in-game bundles and character skins. Originally announced in 2019 as Project L, 2XKO is set in the League of Legends universe, featuring characters from that popular game in a 2v2 team fighting format. After several years in development, 2XKO launched on PC in late 2025, followed by a console release on January 20, 2026.
Like other games from Riot, 2XKO is free to download and play. While it doesn’t have a huge number of characters right now, Riot regularly adds new content with each season, including characters, arenas, and cosmetic items you can buy. You can earn rewards simply by playing, but it can take a while. If you want to unlock characters, skins, Battle Pass items, and more quickly, you can use premium currency to do so.
2XKO Has Some Expensive Skins
The 2XKO subreddit is filled with posts from fans who are upset with the prices of items in the shop. Some players feel this is typical for Riot Games, but many are disappointed that they can’t afford the skins and bundles currently available. A concern for some is also the potential embarrassment of others finding out how much they’ve spent on character costumes. Many are hoping prices will drop or sales will be offered in the future.
Some character skins from the first season are only available through the Season 1 Battle Pass, like the Chromacrash skins for Warwick, Jinx, Ekko, and Caitlyn. However, the recent 2XKO update added several new bundles for Season 1. The Frameperfect bundle donates a portion of its sales to support competitive tournaments, and there are also bundles offering Bee-themed looks or styles inspired by classic arcade games. These bundles don’t just include skins – they also come with extras like emotes, stickers, and animations for when you win. The biggest bundle, the Arcade Megabundle, costs around $80. Additionally, 2XKO offers individual character skins and color variations, most of which require in-game currency to purchase.
Riot Games leveraged the success of its animated series, incorporating themed cosmetics and items from shows like Arcane and Arcade into 2XKO. While players generally praise the quality of these costumes, they’re difficult to get without purchasing the $100 Ultra Starter Edition. Though other Starter Packs based on Arcane are available, the Ekko, Jinx, and Vi skins are exclusive to the most expensive bundle. Players also need to unlock characters like Caitlyn, who was added in Season 1, either by earning in-game currency or by spending money on KO Points or a Champion Token.
Players familiar with Riot Games’ other popular titles, like League of Legends and Valorant, aren’t surprised by the recent controversy over expensive in-game cosmetics. The studio has faced similar criticism before, with many players feeling that character skins and bundles are overpriced. For example, during a League of Legends event, a single Ahri skin was part of a collection costing over $400. While fans heavily criticized these prices, some Riot developers defended the decision. It appears this issue with cosmetic pricing isn’t likely to be resolved anytime soon.
