Remedy Entertainment, the studio behind Control, released the co-op shooter FBC: Firebreak in 2025, but it didn’t do well financially and received mixed reviews. Shortly after launch, it often had fewer than 10 players online at the same time – a significant underperformance for such a well-known developer. Also released in 2025 was Pax Dei by Mainframe Industries, a medieval-inspired social sandbox MMO and one of the newest free-to-play games on Steam. Finally, No Rest For The Wicked, a Soulslike game from Moon Studios (the creators of Ori and the Blind Forest), was released in 2024 and has received “Very Positive” reviews on Steam, meaning genre fans are enjoying it.

Good news for players of FBC: Firebreak, No Rest For The Wicked, and Pax Dei! All three games are currently on sale. FBC: Firebreak is 60% off until February 5th, costing just $15.99. No Rest For The Wicked also has a 40% discount until February 5th, bringing the price down to $23.99. Pax Dei is 40% off at $17.99, but its sale ends a bit earlier, on February 2nd. After that, FBC: Firebreak and No Rest For The Wicked will return to their regular prices.
The recent free-to-play period has had varying degrees of success for these games. Pax Dei has maintained a steady player base, averaging around 4,000 concurrent users. FBC: Firebreak has seen some improvement, increasing from double-digit to triple-digit concurrent players (peaking at 335), but the growth isn’t dramatic. The biggest success story is No Rest For The Wicked, which was already in Early Access. Before the free period, it averaged around 2,000 daily players. Now, it’s broken its all-time peak, reaching over 50,755 concurrent players and continuing to climb, thanks to the promotion.
Steam often gives away free games, so you can build a great game collection without spending a lot of money. While permanently free games aren’t as common as free trials, it’s always good to check what’s being offered. If you’re open to it, the Epic Games Store also regularly offers even more free games.
