Electric-type Pokémon have been popular since the beginning of the franchise, and arguably the most famous Pokémon of all time is an Electric-type. Even leaving Pikachu aside, these Pokémon consistently rank among the most favored by fans and competitive players alike. The strongest Electric-types, such as Raging Bolt and Regieleki, are both visually appealing and powerful team members. As single-type Pokémon, Electrics are particularly strong because their only weakness is Ground-type, which isn’t as commonly used.
There are currently over 80 Electric-type Pokémon, and that number will grow with the release of the new Pokémon Winds & Waves game, which marks the start of Generation 10. With so many choices, it can be tough to pick just a few favorites, especially if you’re looking beyond how they look. So, let’s explore the history of Pokémon and showcase some of the most powerful Electric-type Pokémon.
Although statistics are important, our rankings aren’t just about numbers. We’ll also consider things like a Pokémon’s moves, its dual types, and how well it performs in battles. Popularity won’t affect the rankings, with one exception: a single popular Pokémon will be included at the very end.

| Category | Top Pick | Why? |
|---|---|---|
| Offensive Pivot Role | Manectric | High Speed and Special Attack, plus access to Fire-type moves (Overheat) to destroy the Grass and Steel types that usually counter Electric Pokemon. |
| Classic Sweeper Role | Jolteon | A staple since Generation 1. With a blistering 130 base Speed and the Volt Absorb ability, Jolteon heals from enemy Electric attacks and outpaces almost everything. |
| Competitive Monster | Raging Bolt | Its massive Special Attack and signature priority move, Thunderclap, makes it an absolute nightmare for opponents to deal with. |
| The Mascot | Raichu | Pikachu’s evolution has excellent utility with moves like Fake Out and Nuzzle, making it a great, highly accessible support option for standard playthroughs. |
30. Pikachu
The Franchise Mascot
- Type: Electric
- Game Introduced: Pokemon Red & Blue
- Generation: 1
- Best Nature: Hasty
- Weak To: Ground (2x)
Pikachu isn’t the most powerful Pokémon, but as the face of the franchise, he absolutely deserves a spot among the best Electric-types. Plus, Ash’s Pikachu in the animated series is incredibly iconic, though that doesn’t directly impact the video games. Notably, he reached the final round of the Masters Eight tournament.
He’s not particularly impressive in most games. However, in Let’s Go Pikachu, he’s a real asset. Your Pikachu partner can’t evolve, but it gets stronger and learns a special move called Zippy Zap. This move is powerful, always strikes first, and always lands a critical hit, making it easy to beat the game with Pikachu by your side.
Pikachu’s Best Moves:
Okay, so Raichu is definitely the more powerful version of Pikachu, but it’s a little frustrating that you can’t actually get Raichu in Let’s Go Pikachu!. Your Partner Pikachu is special though! It can learn some really cool moves, like Zippy Zap, which is amazing because it always lands a critical hit! And honestly, running Thunderbolt, Quick Attack, and Splishy Splash on that boosted Pikachu is just super effective – it’s a fantastic combination.
Pikachu’s Base Stats:
| Normal | Partner | |
| HP: | 35` | 45 |
| Attack: | 55 | 80 |
| Defense: | 40 | 50 |
| Sp. Atk: | 50 | 75 |
| Sp. Def: | 50 | 60 |
| Speed: | 90 | 120 |
| Total: | 320 | 430 |
29. Alolan Golem
A Needed Variant For An Iconic Pokemon
- Type: Rock/Electric
- Game Introduced: Pokemon Sun & Moon
- Generation: 7
- Best Nature: Adamant
- Weak To: Fighting (2x), Ground (4x), Water (2x), Grass (2x)
Golem first appeared as one of the original 151 Pokémon in the Red & Blue games. Later, it received a new form in the Alola region, changing its type from Ground to Electric. However, this wasn’t a beneficial change, as it made Golem extremely weak to Ground-type attacks, and also vulnerable to Fighting, Water, and Grass attacks.
This Pokémon is incredibly powerful, both when attacking and defending. It hits extremely hard, though it’s definitely not known for its speed. The design updates give it impressive facial hair and a unique structure on its back, fitting its Electric-type abilities.
Alolan Golem’s Best Moves:
In the Alola region, Golem has a new type and a different set of moves. Players might want to teach it Stone Edge for strong Rock-type attacks, Thunder Punch for powerful physical hits, and Stealth Rock to weaken opponents as they switch in. And if you’re in a tough spot, Explosion is a powerful, last-ditch effort move.
Alolan Golem’s Base Stats:
| HP: | 80 |
|---|---|
| Attack: | 120 |
| Defense: | 130 |
| Sp. Atk: | 55 |
| Sp. Def: | 65 |
| Speed: | 45 |
| Total: | 495 |
28. Lanturn
The First Water/Electric-type Family
- Type: Water/Electric
- Game Introduced: Pokemon Gold & Silver
- Generation: 2
- Best Nature: Modest
- Weak To: Ground (2x), Grass (2x)
The Gold & Silver games brought a lot of new Pokémon, including Lanturn, a Water and Electric type. Lanturn is a durable Pokémon, able to withstand many attacks thanks to its high HP. It’s only weak to Ground and Grass-type moves, and its Water attacks can help it deal with Ground-type opponents.
Okay, so this Pokémon totally reminds me of an angler fish, but way cuter! Real angler fish are kinda scary, but this one actually looks pretty friendly. It’s called Chinchou, and it’s the first form you get – you can evolve it starting at level 27, which is pretty cool.
Lanturn’s Best Moves:
A strong strategy for Lanturn involves using Stockpile, Swallow, and Spit Up, as it learns all these moves as it evolves. Stockpile can be used up to three times to strengthen both Swallow (which restores HP) and Spit Up (which attacks the opponent), while also raising Lanturn’s Defense and Special Defense. Round out the moveset with a powerful attack like Hydro Pump or Discharge for additional damage.
Lanturn’s Base Stats:
| HP: | 125 |
|---|---|
| Attack: | 58 |
| Defense: | 58 |
| Sp. Atk: | 76 |
| Sp. Def: | 76 |
| Speed: | 67 |
| Total: | 460 |
27. Raichu
The Evolved Form Of The Mascot
- Type: Electric
- Alolan Raichu: Electric/Psychic
- Game Introduced: Pokemon Red & Blue
- Alolan Raichu: Pokemon Sun & Moon
- Generation: 1
- Alolan Raichu: 6
- Best Nature: Modest
- Alolan Raichu: Timid
- Weak To: Ground (2x)
- Alolan Raichu: Ground (2x), Ghost (2x), Bug (2x), Dark (2x)
Raichu, the evolved form of Pikachu, is considered one of the strongest Electric-type Pokémon. It’s a quick attacker that can use a variety of moves, making it a good choice when playing the original Pokémon games and later installments.
Raichu received a new form in the Alola region, becoming a Psychic-type Pokémon. This Alolan Raichu uses its tail like a surfboard, riding on psychic waves. While this adds some weaknesses, it also expands the range of moves it can learn. This design is a nod to the surfing Pikachu seen in the animated series. To evolve Pikachu into Raichu, you need to use a Thunder Stone. If you evolve Pikachu in Alola, you’ll get the Alolan form of Raichu.
Raichu’s Best Moves:
For regular Raichu, a good moveset includes Thunderbolt, Quick Attack, Iron Tail, and Nuzzle. This combination provides strong Electric attacks, a fast priority move with Quick Attack, and coverage against other types with Iron Tail. Nuzzle is a reliable Electric-type move that always paralyzes the opponent. Alolan Raichu can use the same moves, but it should swap Iron Tail for Psychic.
Raichu’s Base Stats:
| Kanto | Alola | |
| HP: | 60 | 60 |
| Attack: | 90 | 85 |
| Defense: | 55 | 50 |
| Sp. Atk: | 90 | 95 |
| Sp. Def: | 80 | 85 |
| Speed: | 110 | 110 |
| Total: | 485 | 485 |
26. Heliolisk
Varied Moveset with High Special Attack
- Type: Electric/Normal
- Game Introduced: Pokemon X & Y
- Generation: 6
- Best Nature: Timid
- Weak To: Ground (2x), Fighting (2x)
Both Electric and Normal-type Pokémon are naturally resistant to many attacks, having few weaknesses. Heliolisk, being a combination of both types, shares this advantage but also inherits the downsides. While it’s vulnerable to Ground and Fighting attacks – giving it more weaknesses than a single Electric-type – it’s completely immune to Ghost-type moves.
Heliolisk is fast and hits hard with its special attacks, making it a powerful but fragile Pokémon. It won’t likely survive many hits, but when used strategically against the right opponents, Heliolisk can be a valuable asset to any team.
Heliolisk’s Best Moves:
To maximize Heliolisk’s Special Attack, a good moveset includes Volt Switch, a move that deals 70 damage and automatically switches Heliolisk out of battle – useful for escaping tough situations. Hyper Voice adds some coverage with a Normal-type attack. Thunderbolt is the strongest Electric-type Special move, as Thunder is powerful but less accurate. Finally, Surf is a great choice to counter Ground-type Pokemon, which are Electric types’ only weakness.
Heliolisk’s Base Stats:
| HP: | 62 |
|---|---|
| Attack: | 55 |
| Defense: | 52 |
| Sp. Atk: | 109 |
| Sp. Def: | 94 |
| Speed: | 109 |
| Total: | 481 |
25. Pawmot
A Genuinely Useful Pikachu Clone
- Type: Electric/Fighting
- Game Introduced: Pokemon Scarlet & Violet
- Generation: 1
- Best Nature: Adamant
- Weak To: Ground (2x), Psychic (2x), Fairy (2x)
Pawmot is a newly introduced Pokémon from Scarlet & Violet with an Electric/Fighting type combination. It has a total base stat of 490 and boasts a high Attack stat of 115, making it a fast and powerful physical attacker. Its unusual typing and diverse movepool offer interesting strategic options and type coverage for players seeking a distinctive teammate.
While some call it the ‘Pikachu clone’ from the latest Pokémon games, many players actually find it more helpful than Pikachu itself.
Pawmot’s Best Moves:
Nuzzle is great for temporarily stopping opponents while also dealing some damage. Double Shock and Close Combat are strong attacks that benefit from high Attack power. Finally, Revival Blessing can bring a fainted Pokémon back into the battle.
Pawmot’s Base Stats:
| HP: | 70 |
|---|---|
| Attack: | 115 |
| Defense: | 70 |
| Sp. Atk: | 70 |
| Sp. Def: | 60 |
| Speed: | 105 |
| Total: | 490 |
24. Zebstrika
A Fast Physical Attacker
- Type: Electric
- Game Introduced: Pokemon Black & White
- Generation: 5
- Best Nature: Modest
- Weak To: Ground (2x)
Zebstrika is different from many Electric-type Pokémon because it’s stronger at physical attacks than special attacks. It learns a good range of powerful physical moves, making it a helpful Pokémon to have on your team.
Zebstrika’s main weakness is its low Defense. With both its Defense and Special Defense at a mere 63, it’s easily defeated if it doesn’t knock out its opponent quickly. Like many fragile but powerful Pokémon, Zebstrika offers players the choice of building it as a strong physical attacker.
Zebstrika’s Best Moves:
Players should use physical attacks, and Wild Charge is an excellent choice because it benefits from a Same-Type Attack Bonus. Volt Switch is useful for switching to a different Pokémon, while Flame Charge provides good coverage against various types. Rest or Substitute can help reduce damage and protect your Pokémon, which is important given its relatively low defenses.
Zebstrika’s Base Stats:
| HP: | 75 |
|---|---|
| Attack: | 100 |
| Defense: | 63 |
| Sp. Atk: | 80 |
| Sp. Def: | 63 |
| Speed: | 116 |
| Total: | 497 |
23. Hisuian Electrode
Speed is the Game
- Type: Electric/Grass
- Game Introduced: Pokemon Legends: Arceus
- Generation: 8
- Best Nature: Timid
- Weak To: Poison (2x), Bug (2x), Ice (2x), Fire (2x)
Pokemon Legends: Arceus introduced unique Pokemon variations, including a Grass-type version of the Electric-type Electrode. This makes sense considering the game’s backstory: Poke Balls were originally crafted from wood and a plant called ‘Apricorns,’ so designing Electrode to resemble a Poke Ball with a grassy appearance is a clever touch.
Electrode itself isn’t very versatile, often relying on powerful Explosion attacks. However, its Hisuian form is more well-rounded, able to learn strong Grass-type moves like Chloroblast, Energy Ball, and Seed Bomb. It also has good coverage with moves like Gyro Ball and Rollout, in addition to its usual Electric attacks. Both Electrode and its Hisuian form are incredibly fast, boasting a Speed stat of 150, meaning few Pokémon can react before it in battle.
Hisuian Electrode’s Best Moves:
Hisuian Electrode excels with the move Electro Ball, which gets stronger the faster the Pokémon is compared to its opponent—and Electrode is one of the fastest Pokémon available. Given its reputation for exploding, Explosion can be a powerful, high-damage option when things get tough. Chloroblast is a great STAB (Same-Type Attack Bonus) special grass-type move, and Volt Switch allows Electrode to quickly switch out of battle.
Electrode’s Base Stats:
| HP: | 60 |
|---|---|
| Attack: | 50 |
| Defense: | 70 |
| Sp. Atk: | 80 |
| Sp. Def: | 80 |
| Speed: | 150 |
| Total: | 490 |
22. Luxray
An Intimidating Physical Attacker
- Type: Electric
- Game Introduced: Pokemon Diamond & Pearl
- Generation: 4
- Best Nature: Jolly
- Weak To: Ground (2x)
Luxray is a notable Electric-type Pokémon with a unique strength – it’s more powerful with physical attacks than special ones. While its HP, Defense, and Special Defense are all fairly typical, its Attack stat is surprisingly high.
Luxray needs a skilled trainer to succeed in battle, as it can’t take a lot of damage. While its Speed isn’t the greatest at 79, it still stands out as a strong Electric-type Pokémon due to its powerful Attack stat and the variety of moves it can learn.
Luxray’s Best Moves:
Luxray is a powerful physical attacker. A great moveset for it includes Wild Charge, a strong electric-type attack. Crunch adds coverage against different types of Pokémon, while Thunder Wave can quickly paralyze opponents. Finally, Trailblaze, a grass-type move, helps Luxray deal with ground-type Pokémon, which are normally resistant to electric attacks.
Luxray’s Base Stats:
| HP: | 80 |
|---|---|
| Attack: | 120 |
| Defense: | 79 |
| Sp. Atk: | 95 |
| Sp. Def: | 79 |
| Speed: | 70 |
| Total: | 523 |
21. Toxtricity
Its Ability Boosts Its Signature Moves
- Type: Electric/Poison
- Game Introduced: Pokemon Sword & Shield
- Generation: 8
- Best Nature: Modest
- Weak To: Ground (4x), Psychic (2x)
Toxtricity, along with its earlier form Toxel, is unique as the only Electric and Poison-type Pokémon, giving it a special advantage. This Pokémon, known as the Punk Pokémon, comes in two styles: Low Key and Amped. These styles are determined by its nature, but they have identical stats. The only difference between the two is the move they learn at level 52: Low Key learns Magnetic Flux, while Amped learns Shift Gear.
As a fan, I’m really impressed with this Pokémon’s Special Attack – it’s a whopping 114! That means it can blast opponents from a distance with moves like Overdrive and Boomburst, and its Punk Rock ability gives those moves an extra 30% power! Honestly, that makes it one of the strongest Electric-types out there. You just have to be careful when battling Ground-types, because it’s super weak to them – taking four times the damage instead of the usual two!
Toxtricity’s Best Moves:
Like many Electric-type Pokémon, focusing on Special Attack is the best strategy. The moves Overdrive and Boomburst are particularly strong thanks to the Punk Rock ability. It’s also helpful to include a special Poison-type move like Sludge Wave or Gunk Shot. For the final move, Toxic can be a great choice, as it badly poisons opponents and causes steady damage each turn.
Toxtricity’s Base Stats:
| HP: | 75 |
|---|---|
| Attack: | 98 |
| Defense: | 70 |
| Sp. Atk: | 114 |
| Sp. Def: | 70 |
| Speed: | 75 |
| Total: | 502 |
