It’s fascinating to see an ordinary Pokémon transform into a more powerful form, witness a mighty contender get a cute baby version, and marvel at how various Pokémon have been reimagined as convergent species and regional forms. With whispers of the 10th generation on the horizon, fans like myself are eagerly speculating which existing Pokémon deserve an extra touch of love.

Fixing Boring Designs or Under-Powered Favorites
In simpler terms, some early Pokemon, like Golbat and Seadra, have undergone transformations to improve their designs or abilities, making them scarier or stronger. For instance, Crobat has extra wings and a sleeker look compared to Golbat, while Kingdra is a more powerful version of Seadra due to its dragon type. Among these, the Pokemon that deserves such an update the most is Bidoof. Initially a common rodent found in route 1, Bidoof has grown popular among fans over time. However, its final evolution, Bibarel, doesn’t fully reflect this popularity. Just as Zigzagoon received an upgrade in Pokemon Sword and Shield, it’s now time for Bidoof to receive a similar treatment, boosting its power and giving it a more menacing appearance.

The Pokedex descriptions of certain Pokemon like Shellos and Gastrodon suggest potential new forms or designs in the future. Their unique characteristics, such as having east and west sea forms, already leave room for additional design possibilities. However, their entries in the Sun and Moon versions are intriguing because they mention scientists studying how these two Pokemon change forms, which could imply that new transformations might be on the horizon for this underestimated evolutionary line.
Investigations are underway to understand how a Gastrodon behaves or adapts if it grows in a place besides its native marine environment, as described in its Pokémon Moon data.
The Gen 1 Bias
It’s well-known that some fans and possibly certain members of the Pokemon development team have a preference for the original generation of Pokemon over others. Most gen 1 creatures have undergone some changes since their initial appearance, but one that has already evolved still requires additional consideration. The heart-wrenching story of Cubone has endeared it to fans for decades, and while it already has two distinct evolutions into different types of Marowak, a new evolution could provide solace for Cubone’s emotional turmoil. If a new evolution were to depict Cubone discarding its mother’s skull and beginning to heal, a regional evolution could serve as a powerful lesson about acceptance and resilience.
Game Freak continues to reuse older concepts for new evolutions in Pokemon, even though some fans aren’t fond of this practice due to concerns about overpowered creatures and imbalance. Despite the lack of official announcements regarding the next generation of Pokemon games, enthusiasts are anxiously anticipating what fresh ideas might be unveiled.
