4 JRPGs Are Releasing in February, and They’re Not Just Retreading Old Ground

Wow, the year is already shaping up to be amazing for gaming, but February looks insane! Not only are horror fans getting some seriously scary new titles like Resident Evil Requiem and Reanimal, but as a JRPG lover, I’m absolutely thrilled! We’re getting four big games next month! They aren’t all totally new franchises, but Dragon Quest 7 Reimagined, Rune Factory: Guardians of Azuma, Ys X: Proud Nordics, and Tales of Berseria Remastered all look fantastic and I can’t wait to dive in. Seriously, February can’t come soon enough!

February 2026 offers a strong lineup of JRPGs, even though many are updated versions of older games. These remakes, remasters, and ports revisit beloved franchises and offer fresh content for both new and longtime players. Some games, like Rune Factory: Guardians of Azuma, will be available on new platforms for the first time, having previously been exclusive to Nintendo and PC. Dragon Quest 7 Reimagined leads the charge, but there’s plenty more to get JRPG fans excited this month.

JRPGs Releasing in February 2026

  • Dragon Quest 7 Reimagined (PS5, Xbox Series, Switch 2, Switch, PC) โ€“ February 5
  • Rune Factory: Guardians of Azuma (XSX/S, PS5) โ€“ February 13
  • Ys X: Proud Nordics (PC, Switch 2, PS5) โ€“ February 20
  • Tales of Berseria Remastered (PS5, PC, Switch, XSX/S) โ€“ February 27

Dragon Quest 7 Reimagined Examines a JRPG Classic from a New Perspective

The Dragon Quest series has been getting a lot of remakes recently. The first three games were updated with a beautiful HD-2D style in Dragon Quest 3 HD-2D Remake (2024) and Dragon Quest 1 + 2 HD-2D Remake (2025). Now, Dragon Quest 7 is getting a complete overhaul with Dragon Quest 7 Reimagined. But this remake is different โ€“ instead of the HD-2D look, it’s going for a full 3D style, resembling detailed dioramas with high-definition textures and lighting.

Originally launched for the PlayStation 1, Dragon Quest 7 would have been a good fit for the HD-2D remake treatment thanks to its pixel art style. However, it already received a remake for the 3DS in 2013, which updated the game with 3D graphics. Dragon Quest 7 Reimagined builds on that 3DS version, keeping the core gameplay and story intact, but adds new features like the Vocational Perks system and a Moonlight mechanic that lets characters master two job classes simultaneously.

Now that the 3DS eShop is closed, itโ€™s no longer possible to buy Dragon Quest 7 digitally. This makes Dragon Quest 7 Reimagined the easiest way for most players to experience the game.

Rune Factory: Guardians of Azuma Breaks Free from Nintendo Console Exclusivity

While Rune Factory: Guardians of Azuma came out in June 2025, it was initially only available on Nintendo consoles and was even a launch game for the Nintendo Switch 2. Starting in February 2026, players on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S will finally be able to play the game. It’s worth noting that a PC version was released at the same time, meaning it wasn’t completely exclusive to Nintendo platforms.

The Rune Factory series is a unique blend of genres. While it features action-based combat similar to many JRPGs, it also incorporates the farming and social simulation elements found in games like Stardew Valley and Harvest Moon. This creates a relaxing gameplay loop of building a farm and befriending villagers, punctuated by battles against monsters threatening the town you’re trying to restore. Currently, it’s unknown if Rune Factory: Guardians of Azuma will be available on Game Pass, but its release on Xbox is still a positive addition to the console’s expanding collection of JRPGs.

Ys X: Proud Nordics is the Definitive Way to Experience Nihon Falcom’s JRPG Epic

The game Ys X: Proud Nordics is a re-release of the original Ys X: Nordics (launched in 2024 on PS4, PS5, PC, and Switch) with added content to improve the gameplay. This new version aims to be the best way for fans to enjoy the game.

The biggest addition in Ys X: Proud Nordics is a completely new story that expands on the original game. Players will journey to Oland Island to experience this separate storyline, meeting new characters like Canute and Astrid. Beyond the new story, Proud Nordics also boasts significantly improved graphics, including a fast-paced 120FPS mode on the Switch 2, and includes all previously released DLC.

A downside to Ys X: Proud Nordics is that players who already have the original game can’t simply upgrade โ€“ they have to purchase the new version at full price to get the additional content.

Tales of Berseria Remastered Gives a Fan-Favorite a New Coat of Paint

February ends with a refreshed version of a beloved JRPG: Tales of Berseria Remastered. Bandai Namco has been re-releasing several games from the long-running Tales series in recent years to celebrate its 30th anniversary. Other titles that have received this treatment include Tales of Symphonia, Tales of Graces f, and Tales of Xillia.

Released initially in 2016, Tales of Berseria remains a great game. This remaster focuses on making the experience even better with improvements like faster movement (20% increase!), easier item collection, and helpful additions to the mini-map. Plus, Tales of Berseria Remastered includes all the downloadable content from the original release.
