At the Summer Game Fest in June 2023, it was initially announced that John Carpenter’s Toxic Commando would be a co-op first-person shooter game, inspired by ’80s horror and action movies. Originally slated for release in 2024, the game faced delays without any updates about a new launch date. However, recent developer updates have cleared up all speculations regarding the project.

During Gamescom Opening Night Live, it was surpriseingly unveiled that John Carpenter’s Toxic Commando would be releasing in early 2026. The recently aired gameplay trailer showcased various aspects of the game, including its monster-filled setting and intense violence. In addition to rapid gunfights, the trailer also demonstrated the pulse-raising vehicular combat that includes trucks and tanks. Furthermore, it was disclosed that players will have the option to choose their character and class before taking on waves of undead enemies using weapons such as flamethrowers and katanas. The developers also confirmed that the game would support four-player cooperative play with cross-platform compatibility between PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S.
