4 PlayStation Plus Games to Play This Week (8/25 – 8/31)

These next few months are shaping up to be pretty wild. Silent Hill f releases in September, Ghost of Yotei is coming in October, and as we recently found out, Hollow Knight: Silksong is just around the corner. As such, gamers may only have a short window to clear out (or continue filling up) their backlogs before a torrential downpour of big releases, and I’m here to assist with that.

As a fellow gaming enthusiast who can’t get enough of jumping into various PlayStation titles, I completely understand the mixed feelings towards services like PlayStation Plus. On one hand, it offers an extensive library that satisfies our insatiable hunger for new games. On the other hand, the sheer volume of options can sometimes leave us feeling overwhelmed and unsure where to start. In order to help point us in the right direction through this sea of games, let’s dive into some recommendations!

Be sure to claim the games for PlayStation Plus Essential in August, as they will only be accessible until the end of this month: Lies of P, DayZ, and My Hero One’s Justice 2 are all available until next week.

Everybody’s Golf

Available on PS Plus Extra

While I don’t have a deep-rooted fondness for golf, whether playing the real game, watching it on TV, or even in video games, my recommendation for “Everybody’s Golf” isn’t based on any personal attachment to the sport but rather the game’s inherent enjoyment. This game makes the complex mechanics of golf accessible without losing its essence, and it adds a dash of adorable graphics that make it endearingly relaxing. It’s an excellent choice for households with multiple gamers, as multiplayer mode offers a fun and engaging experience.

  • How long to beat Everybody’s Golf: 16โ€“37 hours, but completionists can harvest around 80 hours of content.

The Evil Within 2

Available on PS Plus Extra

As a fervent admirer, I can’t help but feel that “The Evil Within 2” might have been released at just the wrong moment: it hit shelves in 2017, a couple years before Capcom embarked on their ambitious remake journey for the Resident Evil series. This rejuvenation of the third-person survival horror genre perhaps overshadowed “The Evil Within 2,” but I assure you, it’s still an engaging adventure worth exploring today.

Created by the mastermind behind the Resident Evil franchise, Shinji Mikami, the game is a testament to his skills, brimming with elements that make for a chilling gaming experience. Expect nerve-wracking combat, pulse-pounding set pieces, terrifying monster designs, and an atmosphere that will send shivers down your spine.

It’s not without its flaws, but if you’re a fan of the genre, “The Evil Within 2” is a game you shouldn’t miss out on.

The Forgotten City

Available on PS Plus Extra

One frequently overlooked game, often known as “The Forgotten City“, initially started as a modest mod for Skyrim, eventually evolving into a standalone title, demonstrating both its exceptional quality and the dedication of its development team. With minimal combat or conventional gameplay mechanics, it compensates exceptionally through its intriguing time-travel plot, set in an Ancient Roman city filled with supernatural mysteries that players must unravel. This narrative is captivating, and the way players interact within it-exercising control and agency-makes it a story uniquely suited for video games.

  • How long to beat The Forgotten City: 6โ€“10 hours.

Tetris Effect: Connected

Available on PS Plus Extra

Regardless of what others may think, in my opinion, “Tetris Effect” surpasses any other version of “Tetris”. This modern take captures the essence that makes the original so remarkable and takes it a step further with exceptional visuals and sound. Notably, the audiovisual experience offered by “Tetris Effect” is extraordinary, helping to achieve the focused state that is commonly experienced during intense games of “Tetris”. The PS Plus edition, titled “Connected”, offers all the advantages of the original game but with additional multiplayer modes, making it an ideal introduction for both new and seasoned “Tetris” players.

  • How long to beat Tetris Effect: 3โ€“10 hours.
