- Memorable and humorous lines from characters add to the cheesy one-liners and action sequences in the series.
As a passionate fan, I’m thrilled about Netflix’s fresh take on the Devil May Cry universe! This origin story breathes new life into the world we all know and adore, focusing on our beloved protagonist, Dante. He’s still the same wise-cracking, demon-hunting maestro from the games, but now he’s got his own agency. His love for food is as strong as ever, and he’s always ready with a corny one-liner that would make even the cheesiest pizza proud!
Despite being unaware that he’s part demon, he finds himself caught up in a conflict between the underworld and the U.S. government in New York City. The dialogue among Dante and other characters is particularly noteworthy in Netflix’s Devil May Cry.
This list contains spoilers!
8. “Mythology Exists To Explain Reality.”
Dr. Fisher, Episode One

In the opening episode, we encounter Dr. Fisher, who is associated with the Darkcom group. He presents to a gathering of U.S. government officials, including the President and Vice President, a hypothesis suggesting a potential demonic incursion. When a skeptical politician dismisses this notion, Dr. Fisher eloquently argues that such phenomena are not entirely unbelievable and draws attention to how ancient mythology offers explanations for much of human history. While demons do not exist in the physical world, this scenario serves as an effective means to emphasize the importance of scientific exploration and finding logical explanations through research.
7. “I Don’t Think That’s The Guy.”
Mercenary, Episode Two

In episode two, Darkcom assembles a group of hired guns with the objective of capturing or questioning Dante, specifically for his necklace. When the initial team reaches Dante’s residence, they discover Enzo bound and gagged in a chair that mimics Dante, complete with a mop wig. One of the anonymous mercenaries can’t help but deliver a line so amusingly that it’s almost impossible not to chuckle due to Enzo’s bizarre appearance. It is worth noting that Enzo, for those unaware, is Dante’s broker who betrayed him merely to protect his own skin.
6. “God Bless America!”
White Rabbit, Episode Three

In the opening scene of the anime, The White Rabbit makes his initial appearance, yet it’s not until episode three that he takes center stage when he confronts Lady and her team, Darkcom. Wielding a rocket launcher, he launches an attack on them with a fervor that suggests he truly stands behind his words.
Whenever a villain detonates something in the name of America, it’s always an exciting moment, reminiscent of the over-the-top villains from ’80s and ’90s movies. Essentially, that’s the essence of the Devil May Cry series – reviving catchy one-liners, blowing up and firing at things purely for their visual appeal.
5. “Damn, He’s Cool.”
Agni and Rudra, Episode Three

In the first season, Agni and Rudra are among the mischievous antagonists within the White Rabbit’s group. Despite their inherent wickedness and penchant for violence, they hold a deep respect for Dante due to his legendary status as the son of Sparta. They serve as audience stand-ins, marveling at Dante’s cool demeanor. As they prepare for an imminent confrontation with Dante following a thrilling chase scene, they utter this line. It’s not the first time that Dante has employed a motorcycle as a weapon, however; the use of a motorcycle as a deadly tool was also prominently featured in Devil May Cry 5.
4. “Oh, S**t!”
Dante, Episode Four

In the fourth episode, there’s an explosive finale as a plane carrying Dante and other passengers blows up. Post-explosion, characters float around, including Dante who smacks the camera before the scene fades to credits. Cliffhangers are typically gripping in this series, but this one might take the cake for the most shocking in the first season. Luckily, Dante and his companions survive, which is addressed in a thrilling rescue operation in episode five.
3. “Looks Like You Killed The Wrong B***h.”
Lady, Episode Five

Despite being trapped multiple times, Lady manages to escape each situation. In episode five, she employs a particularly cunning trick when she’s cornered by one of the leading demons, Plasma, who has the ability to transform.
I watched as she successfully persuaded Plasma to transform into Lady, granting him access to Darkcom HQ to pilfer vital information on behalf of the White Rabbit. She was aware that another demon, Echidna, was hot on her heels, and just moments after Plasma metamorphosed, Echidna materialized with lethal intent towards Lady. In that critical moment, the genuine Lady retaliated with a sharp remark and a magazine brimming with bullets, effectively dealing with both threats at once.
2. “God Has Never Asked For Us To Stand Idly By And Await His Kingdom On Earth But To Build It Ourselves.”
Vice President Baines, Episode Eight

William Baines, who serves as Vice President and leader at Darkcom – an organization focused on aiding individuals – has always given off an unusual vibe. This unease culminates in a speech during episode eight, where he appears particularly suspect to his subordinate, Anders. Just before dismissing Anders unceremoniously by pushing him out of a helicopter due to unsatisfactory performance, Baines reveals an unsettling perspective. He views himself not just as a warrior against the criminal underworld, but also as something akin to a soldier in a divine war or even a superior celestial figure such as an archangel.
1. “I Am That Storm.”
Vergil, Episode Eight

In the captivating world of Devil May Cry, there are two characters who’ve stolen the hearts of fans – none other than Dante, the Star, and his brother, Vergil. Fans didn’t have to endure much wait before catching a glimpse of Vergil in the very first episode, albeit disguised as a demon. His true demon form graced our screens in episode seven, but it’s the humanoid version of Vergil that we get to see in the last scene of season one. This enigmatic character is on a mission to liberate demons from the grasp of the U.S. military. To his fellow demons, he promises a tempest is coming, and no one can stand against it. Rest assured, if there’s a season two, Vergil will undoubtedly be playing a pivotal role in its storyline.
