5 Dragon Ball Super Characters Stronger Than Ultra Instinct Goku

A lot of anime fans think Goku is the strongest character in Dragon Ball, but those who’ve followed the series closely know that’s usually not true. He hasn’t actually been the strongest since the end of the Frieza Saga – and even then, it was only after becoming a Super Saiyan. By the end of Dragon Ball Z, both Gotenks and Gohan are significantly more powerful than Goku, making him not even the strongest Saiyan. And throughout Dragon Ball Super, Goku never reaches the peak of power.

Goku is undeniably one of the most powerful characters in anime history, and he’s become even stronger with Ultra Instinct. However, he’s no longer among the top five strongest characters in the Dragon Ball series—and that’s even without considering the angels. Based on the events at the end of Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero and the recent manga storyline, Goku, even with Ultra Instinct, is now surpassed in power by his rival, his son, and the next major villain.

Vegeta Beat Goku In Their Last Fight In Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero

I’ve always noticed that Goku and Vegeta’s fights are complicated. It’s surprisingly hard to say Goku’s actually won one-on-one. Back in the Saiyan Saga, Goku briefly had the edge with his Kaioken, even winning their clash of energy beams. But Vegeta didn’t accept that loss, as he had to transform into a Great Ape and still needed Gohan, Krillin, and Yajirobe to help defeat him. Then, during the Buu Saga, Goku was clearly holding back as a Super Saiyan 3, making him stronger than Vegeta’s Super Saiyan 2 form, but Vegeta managed to knock him out with a surprise attack.

In Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero, Vegeta finally beats Goku decisively. They fight the whole movie using their regular forms, and Vegeta delivers the winning hit, knocking Goku out. While being stronger in base form doesn’t guarantee Ultra Ego Vegeta would defeat Ultra Instinct Goku, the current record is clear: Goku hasn’t won against Vegeta, but Vegeta is now three wins to zero and has a power-up that gets stronger as the fight goes on.

Gohan Beast Is Currently The Strongest Saiyan In Dragon Ball Super

Currently, in Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero, Gohan is considered the strongest character in the Dragon Ball series. The manga even shows a practice match between Gohan in his Beast form and Goku using Ultra Instinct to determine who is more powerful. Although the match doesn’t finish, Gohan ultimately gains the upper hand, briefly forcing Goku out of his Ultra Instinct state. If they were to have a full battle, Gohan would likely win.

Chapter 103 of the Dragon Ball Super manga features a fierce battle where Gohan, like Broly, remains surprisingly unscathed, hinting he was the real victor. Whis even proposes to Beerus that Gohan has the potential to become the next God of Destruction for Universe 7, and Beerus is clearly disturbed by Gohan’s power. While it’s debatable if Vegeta’s Ultra Ego is stronger than Goku’s Ultra Instinct, the manga establishes that Gohan Beast is more powerful than both of them.

Beerus Is A Bench-Mark Goku Can’t Surpass Until The End Of Dragon Ball Super

Watching Dragon Ball Super, it’s clear Beerus serves a specific purpose: he’s the standard Goku and Vegeta are always trying to reach. Every time one of them gets stronger and achieves a new transformation, the show immediately compares them to Beerus. It also creates a bit of a pattern where, when a new enemy appears, the story has to explain why Beerus isn’t just stepping in to handle things himself. I remember when Battle of Gods first came out, Super Saiyan God Goku actually pushed Beerus to use 70% of his power. But the series has since changed that a bit, essentially rewriting that moment throughout Dragon Ball Super.

Goku isn’t meant to become stronger than Beerus, as Beerus’s role is to remain a powerful, unmatched being. While mastering Ultra Instinct brings Goku closer to Beerus’s strength, Beerus also has his own, even more advanced version of the technique, keeping him ahead. Although the movie Dragon Ball Super: Broly hints that Gogeta and Broly could potentially be stronger than Beerus, Whis easily overpowered Broly, making that unlikely. If Goku ever does surpass and defeat Beerus, it would likely only happen at the very end of the Dragon Ball Super series.

Black Frieza One-Shot Ultra Instinct Goku AND Ultra Ego Vegeta

Frieza has returned, and he’s more powerful than before. After the events of the Granolah Saga, it’s revealed he spent years secretly training in a special Hyperbolic Time Chamber he discovered in another universe. He then transforms into Black Frieza, quickly defeats and kills Gas, and with a single attack, effortlessly overpowers both Ultra Instinct Goku and Ultra Ego Vegeta. Surprisingly, Frieza decides to spare the Saiyans and leaves to continue his galactic conquests. Since the anime then started adapting the Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero movie, we haven’t seen Black Frieza again.

Currently, Black Frieza is the most powerful single character in the Dragon Ball universe and is expected to be the primary villain when Dragon Ball Super returns. Goku and Vegeta have been training hard, but they still need to become much stronger to have a chance against him. Right now, the heroes’ best hope of winning is likely either Gohan Beast or a fusion between Goku and Vegeta.

Gogeta Is The Strongest Super Saiyan & Character In The Franchise – For Now

It’s clear that a fusion involving Goku will be more powerful than Goku himself. Gogeta is considered the strongest character in Dragon Ball Super, and might even surpass Beerus and Whis, though this hasn’t been confirmed yet. We last saw him in Dragon Ball Super: Broly, where he easily overpowered Broly in his base form, as a regular Super Saiyan, and in his Super Saiyan Blue form. In fact, Super Saiyan Blue Gogeta is so strong he was able to break through to another dimension during their fight.

Goku and Vegeta really dislike fusing, which means we probably won’t see Gogeta or Vegito fight again anytime soon. However, Gogeta’s power is incredible – especially in his Super Saiyan Blue form, which is unlike anything Dragon Ball has ever shown. If Goku and Vegeta want to easily defeat Black Frieza, fusing into Gogeta might be their only option.
