5 Games You Need to Play on PS5 This Weekend (July 4 – July 6)

On weekends, people usually like to spend time playing video games. However, with the PlayStation 5 offering a vast collection of its exclusive titles as well as access to almost the entire PS4 library and hundreds of classic games from the PS1, PS2, PSP, and PS3, it can be challenging to decide what to play. The variety of options available on the PS5 is overwhelming, but I can help make some recommendations.

Since we’re in the middle of the Independence Day weekend, I thought it might be appropriate to suggest some games with a patriotic theme. However, you could also spend this time enjoying the latest blockbuster PS5 releases or diving into popular online multiplayer games with plenty of action and events happening.

Over the upcoming 4th of July weekend, when you’re not engrossed in barbecuing hot dogs or enjoying fireworks, here are five PlayStation 5 games I suggest giving a try.

Assassin’s Creed 3 Remastered

As a history enthusiast and gaming fanatic, nothing quite encapsulates the spirit of Independence Day like diving into the action-packed world of “Assassin’s Creed 3.” In this gripping tale, I become Connor, an Assassin navigating the tumultuous landscape of the American Revolution. This game offers a unique opportunity to witness significant historical events through Connor’s eyes and even interact with Founding Fathers such as George Washington, Benjamin Franklin, and Samuel Adams.

The meticulously crafted recreation of Colonial America in “Assassin’s Creed 3” remains a visual marvel, even after all these years. The remastered version, playable on the PlayStation 5, showcases this stunning world in breathtaking detail. Although “Assassin’s Creed 3 Remastered” doesn’t boast a native PS5 port, it is fully compatible with the console and provides an engaging experience for the 4th of July weekend celebration.

In addition to Assassin’s Creed 3 Remastered, this package offers a remake of Assassin’s Creed 3: Liberation, a game set in the 1700s that introduces the series’ first female main character.

BioShock Infinite

The game BioShock Infinite adopts a satirical style, yet its visuals undeniably resonate with the spirit of the 4th of July. The floating city of Columbia in the game is adorned with flags and other patriotic emblems, portraying its leaders as deified Founding Fathers. Players keen on experiencing BioShock Infinite on PlayStation 5 should consider purchasing BioShock: The Collection, which enhances the visual quality of Infinite to meet contemporary standards, and also includes the first two BioShock games. With its intriguing narrative, captivating characters Booker DeWitt and Elizabeth, and intense first-person shooter gameplay, BioShock Infinite is an ideal choice for any weekend gaming session. However, given its themes, it seems particularly fitting to play on the 4th of July.

Death Stranding 2: On the Beach

Gamers searching for something fresh to play should definitely consider checking out the latest hit PS5 game, “Death Stranding 2: On the Beach“. “Death Stranding 2” has recently taken over as the highest-rated game on the PlayStation Store, boasting stunning graphics, a unique storyline that can only be attributed to director Hideo Kojima, and captivating open-world gameplay. “Death Stranding 2” is an exclusive title for the PS5 and a must-have for those who own Sony’s latest console. It’s truly one of the most visually impressive video games ever created and serves as a testament to the capabilities of the PS5. In addition to its incredible graphics, “Death Stranding 2” leverages the power of the PS5 to minimize load times and deliver smooth, high-quality gameplay. Although I wasn’t fond of the original “Death Stranding“, “Death Stranding 2” has quickly become one of my favorite games of the year so far.

Red Dead Online

In contrast to Grand Theft Auto Online, Rockstar seems to have devoted less attention to Red Dead Online, the online component of critically acclaimed Red Dead Redemption 2, which is also available as a standalone game. As suggested by its name, Red Dead Online allows players to roam Rockstar’s vast open-western world with friends and strangers online, engaging in various activities such as completing missions, participating in PvP battles, and generally pursuing their hearts’ desires.

Recently, Rockstar Games unveiled a new update for Red Dead Online, introducing Strange Tales of the West Vol. 1. These new missions incorporate pulpy science-fiction and horror elements into RDO, hinting at potential future additions. It’s been rumored that both Red Dead Redemption 2 and its online counterpart may receive a full port to PS5, but for now, it can be played on the console via backward compatibility.

Rematch

Following the impressive action game Sifu by Sloclap that left gamers in awe, one wouldn’t anticipate their next creation to be a multiplayer soccer game. Yet, that’s precisely what Rematch is. Instead of aiming for a realistic soccer simulation, Rematch adopts an arcade-style presentation, enabling players to execute extraordinary kicks and sprint at supernatural speeds with a speed boost. Rematch, being a sports game, offers enjoyable gameplay even for those not particularly fond of soccer. As someone who usually steers clear of games like EA Sports FC, I’ve found myself playing Rematch almost every night since its release. This Fourth of July weekend, PS5 gamers seeking a fun title to enjoy with friends will find Rematch an obvious choice for hours of entertainment on end.
