September 26th is set to be a major date for Magic: The Gathering, no matter how players feel about the new Spider-Man set releasing that day. Wizards of the Coast will be at MagicCon Atlanta to reveal their plans for 2026 sets, including both standard releases and those from the Universes Beyond series. While only two of the six planned sets have been officially announced, there’s a strong indication that three more will feature specific themes, settings, and characters, and will include some Magic: The Gathering Universes Beyond products.
January 2026 – Lorwyn Eclipsed
Magic: The Gathering Will Kick 2026 Off With a Bang
In 2026, *Magic: The Gathering* will revisit the world of Lorwyn with the set *Lorwyn Eclipsed*, marking its return after almost 19 years. The set is scheduled to release on January 23, 2026, and will likely focus on the same creature types (tribes) as the original Lorwyn, with new cards designed to support them and build themed decks. Retailer information suggests the following products will be available:
- Play Boosters (and display or case)
- Collector Boosters (and display or case)
- Bundle
- Commander decks (two variants)
- Preconstructed decks (60-card decks, possibly based on Lorwyn’s tribes)
- Draft Night (mix of boosters and lands for MTG‘s Pick-Two Draft)
Based on information from retailers, the price of Magic: The Gathering products, including Collector Boosters, Bundles, and Commander decks, is going up with the release of Lorwyn Eclipsed.
Q1-Q2 2026 (February-June) – Secrets of Strixhaven

MTG’s Return to Its School of Magic
Arcavios, home to the magical Strixhaven school, is often considered one of the best locations in Magic: The Gathering. Strixhaven focuses on learning magic and helping new mages develop their skills. The first set based on Strixhaven was very popular, and a new set, Secrets of Strixhaven, is planned for release in 2026, demonstrating its continued success. This upcoming set will likely feature the original colleges from the first set and will probably include at least one new Planeswalker card for MTG. While a firm release date isn’t available, it’s expected to launch sometime between February and June of 2026.
Magic: The Gathering’s Ziplining Set Explained

The final set in a series of interconnected Magic: The Gathering releases planned for 2026 is currently known as “Ziplining.” It’s the most mysterious of the three sets revealed so far. Wizards of the Coast has confirmed that “Ziplining” will conclude the ongoing “Metronome” storyline, meaning it will likely feature characters and events from recent sets, starting with Wilds of Eldraine. We could see familiar faces like Jace, Liliana (Loot), Nicol Bolas, and Chandra, as well as Valgavoth, who last appeared in Duskmourn. Like the “March of the Machine” set, “Ziplining” is expected to be a major event, possibly including a large-scale battle that will shape the future of the MTG multiverse.
MTG’s Second Marvel Set is Slated For 2026

According to Mark Rosewater from Wizards of the Coast, another Magic: The Gathering set featuring a Marvel property is planned for 2026. Originally, Wizards intended to reprint the Marvel-themed cards from last year’s Secret Lair collection in 2025. However, they’ve decided to include those reprints in the 2026 set instead. Given that the previous Marvel cards showcased Avengers and X-Men, and with the upcoming release of Avengers: Doomsday in 2026, it’s highly probable that the new set will focus on these characters.
- Avengers
- X-Men
- Avengers vs. X-Men
- Two Marvel sets, one for Avengers and one for X-Men
Magic: The Gathering’s Next Nickelodeon Collaboration

Just recently, Nickelodeon announced they’ll be revealing a new collaboration with *Magic: The Gathering* on October 10th. With the *Avatarthemed *MTG* set already known, and Nickelodeon owning the *Avatar* IP (along with SpongeBob SquarePants, which recently got a special *Magic* release), it’s almost certain this new collaboration is something different. Given that Nickelodeon also owns *Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles* and has several *TMNT* video games and movies in development, it’s highly likely that the second Universes Beyond set planned for 2026 will feature *Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles*.
The recent Magic: The Gathering ‘Foundations’ set, released in 2024, strongly suggests a potential collaboration with Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, as it featured a creature specifically described as a ‘turtle ninja’ within its Jumpstart products.
