50% of Dispatch Players Are Making the Wrong Choice with Waterboy

This article contains spoilers for Dispatch up through Episode 4.

Man, playing Dispatch can be seriously stressful. Every choice feels huge, and it’s not always clear what the consequences will be down the line. When the game tells you someone will remember what you did? Forget about it – I start overthinking everything! There was one decision in Episode 4 that really got me, and I’m pretty sure half of us players ended up wishing we’d gone with the other option.

Each episode of Dispatch centers around a crucial decision that shapes the story, and these choices are often difficult. Dispatch lets players compare their decisions to those of others, showing how popular each option was. However, the choice between Waterboy and Phenomaman in Episode 4 was unusual – players were almost evenly split, with roughly 50% choosing each option, indicating no clear consensus.

Waterboy is the Better Z-Team Addition, But Half of All Dispatch Players Still Pick Phenomaman

Okay, so after having to choose between Sonar and Coupe in Episode 3 of Dispatch, Episode 4 throws another tough decision at us: Waterboy or Phenomaman. Honestly, Phenomaman seemed like the obvious pick at first, but with her recent breakup with Blonde Blazer, she’s bringing a lot of drama. That makes me think Waterboy, even though he’s a bit clumsy, might be the smarter choice. But a lot of us players are really hesitant to pass up the chance to get Phenomaman on the Z-Team, because she’s just that useful. It’s a tough one!

How Waterboy and Phenomaman’s Stats Compare

Stat Phenomaman Waterboy
Combat 7 1
Intellect 1 2
Vigor 7 2
Charisma 2 1
Mobility 6 2

Phenomaman begins with stronger natural abilities than Waterboy, especially in fighting, stamina, and speed – making him well-suited for standard superhero work. But despite these advantages, Phenomaman is currently hampered by a serious emotional issue stemming from his recent split with Blonde Blazer.

  • Easily Depressed: Phenomaman needs only 2 seconds rest, however if any call fails or misses, he will be depressed and need 45 seconds of rest.

If players fail or make the wrong decision, they risk losing access to Phenomaman for 45 seconds, which can be a major problem when the Z-Team needs everyone available. Although Waterboy doesn’t seem as strong as Phenomaman at first, he’s a better choice in the long run because he won’t be temporarily unavailable like Phenomaman can be.

Phenomaman can overcome depression by using the Heavily Medicated skill, which she learns through special Hero Training.

Why Waterboy is the Better Choice for Dispatch Players

Players can sidestep the issues with the disheartened Phenomaman by selecting Waterboy, and he also offers flexibility to cover any weaknesses in their team. While Waterboy starts with low stats when he joins the Z-Team, this allows players to customize him to perfectly suit their needs. If Sonar is lost and the team needs a boost in Intellect, players can focus on developing that stat in Waterboy. Likewise, if Coupe is removed in Dispatch Episode 3 and a hero with improved Mobility is required, Waterboy can fill that role with some focused training.

However, Phenomaman is already as strong as he can get and doesn’t gain any more experience, so players are stuck with his initial stats. While he’s a strong hero to have immediately when he appears in Dispatch Episode 4, he can become a weakness if he fails a mission or if the team already has plenty of heroes focused on combat and toughness. In most cases, Waterboy is the better choice, although players are still divided on which one to use.
