6 Jujutsu Kaisen Characters That Have Already Died In JJK Modulo

This article contains major spoilers for Jujutsu Kaisen and Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo.

The incredibly popular manga series Jujutsu Kaisen concluded in 2024. A year later, fans received a follow-up series called Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo, which is known for being brief but engaging.

Since the events of Modulo take place 68 years after the fight with Sukuna, it’s not shocking that many of the characters fans love are now gone. While some deaths are hinted at, others are directly stated by the narrator or other characters. It seems likely that Modulo will bring even more sadness for those who followed the original series.

Megumi Fushiguro

  • Death: Heavily Implied

Many fans were excited to see Megumi Fushiguro in Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo. Viewers had already gotten a brief look at the other two members of the main trio, Yuji and Nobara. Interestingly, Yuji has stopped aging and disappeared, while Nobara is now an elderly woman, but thankfully, both are still alive.

It seems Megumi may have died. Although it hasn’t been directly confirmed, his absence during the search for Yuji in the JJK Modulo arc, combined with Yuka Okkotsu now wielding his signature technique, Ten Shadows, heavily implies his death.

Hana Kurusu

  • Death: Confirmed

Hana Kurusu was a memorable character in the original Jujutsu Kaisen series. Though not a central figure, she had some compelling scenes, particularly when facing Sukuna. Recently, it was confirmed in Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo that Nobara revealed Hana had died.

I overheard Nobara talking about Yuji, and she said she hasn’t seen him since Hana Kurusu’s funeral. That really confirms Hana is gone, and it’s been a while. There was also some talk, or at least hints, that she and Megumi might have gotten married, but it’s still unconfirmed whether that’s true or just speculation.

Mei Mei

  • Death: Implied

Mei Mei was a skilled sorcerer in the Jujutsu Kaisen series. Though powerful, she wasn’t necessarily a good person, despite occasionally assisting the main characters. At the end of Jujutsu Kaisen, Mei Mei took charge of the New Shadow Style School, and details about what happened to her after that remained unclear until the events involving Modulo.

In the world of Modulo, followers believe Ui Ui, Mei Mei’s younger brother, is now heading the New Shadow Style School. This suggests Mei Mei is no longer alive. Considering Mei Mei would be close to a century old within the timeline of Modulo, her passing isn’t unexpected. Despite this, Ui Ui has stepped up as the new leader, signaling the start of a fresh era.

Maki Zenin

  • Death: Confirmed

In the Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo story, Maki Zenin was the first character from the original cast to die. This happened right at the beginning, in the first chapter, and it was a huge shock to fans, many of whom believed she would survive much longer than most other characters.

Maki possesses extraordinary resilience, being naturally resistant to illnesses and other threats. Because of this, her death came as a shock to many. While the details surrounding her passing are unclear, most believe it was due to natural causes. Maki’s death deeply saddened the characters in Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo, and it even led to Yuta’s death from a broken heart. Her family, particularly her grandson Tsurugi, were also profoundly affected by the loss.

Yuta Okkotsu

  • Death: Confirmed

Yuta Okkotsu was one of the first characters confirmed to die in the series. After the events of Jujutsu Kaisen, he became the head of the Gojo clan and later married his high school sweetheart, Maki Zenin. Together, they had a son named Iori Okkotsu, and eventually, two grandchildren.

Yuta was thriving, but ultimately succumbed to grief after Maki’s death. This loss deeply affected him, considering his abilities were connected to love. Before he passed away, he left his ring to his granddaughter, Yuka Okkotsu.

Gojo Satoru

  • Death: Confirmed

The death of Gojo Satoru dramatically changed the course of the Jujutsu Kaisen story. He died while fighting Sukuna in the original manga.

Gojo’s unexpected defeat, cut in half after a moment of carelessness, deeply shocked fans. Many are still reeling from the loss of what was arguably the strongest person on Earth. If he had lived, Gojo could have lived to be around 90 years old and would have been a huge asset in facing threats like Dabura, giving humanity a much better chance of survival.
