Now that the main story of Jujutsu Kaisen has concluded and the new arc is off to a good start, the series remains popular, though some fans found the original ending a bit disappointing. While Sukuna was undeniably a powerful and destructive force, some felt the final battle dragged on too long. A truly compelling villain needs a personal motivation or a strong belief system that clashes with the hero’s, and by the end, Sukuna lacked the narrative depth needed for such a complex story.
Let’s explore six characters who could have significantly heightened the story’s ending. Some were already driven by strong motivations, others were purely malicious and aimed to hurt the heroes, and still others, though harmless, possessed the potential to become incredibly powerful villains with a different path.
6. Megumi Fushiguro
Megumi’s painful experiences – losing his sister and battling those he cared about – could have easily turned him into a villain, and those events are also why his teacher died. After losing Tsumiki and witnessing everything fall apart, a deeply broken Megumi might have embraced the darkness. Instead of striving for strength, his motivation would have been to dismantle a world that had let him down.
If Megumi loses and his Shadow Garden spirals out of control, it could plunge the world into eternal darkness. This would turn the final fight into a heartbreaking attempt by Yuji to save his friend from himself, adding a deeply personal tragedy that the ancient sorcerer Sukuna simply couldn’t provide.
5. Toji Fushiguro
The person who set everything in motion and defied expectations absolutely deserves to be considered a key figure. Apparently, the author originally planned to bring this character back as a ghost with no cursed energy – essentially undetectable by the story’s systems – but was overruled by his editors. This character single-handedly destroyed the Zenin family and was completely uncontrollable.
We’ve already seen how incredibly strong Toji was even after being brought back to life. Now, picture him returning to his peak condition. A final fight against him would be a brutal contest between raw physical power and supernatural abilities. It would essentially be a confrontation with the man who originally pushed Gojo to realize the gravity of the situation and ultimately caused all the current chaos.

4. Takaba Fumihiko
Takaba’s ability, ‘Comedians,’ is arguably the most powerful and overlooked technique in the series. Unlike other Jujutsu abilities, it doesn’t seem to follow any rules, and is even hinted at being comparable to, or stronger than, Satoru Gojo’s. However, Takaba himself doesn’t understand the full extent of his power. Because he wasn’t taken seriously, he was vulnerable to potentially becoming a villain. If his comedy were to turn dark or cynical, he could warp reality into an inescapable nightmare. There’s no defense against someone who finds humor in horrific events, like imagining your organs turning into confetti or a gruesome death.
Takaba as a villain would be truly terrifying because he wouldn’t even recognize his own evil. He’d be like a god who can warp reality but has no concept of morality, forcing others to follow his strange and unpredictable whims just to survive. He’d be a uniquely unsettling and memorable final boss, unlike anything seen before in shōnen manga and anime.
3. Gojo Satoru
Following Gojo’s loss, many fans predicted that Kenjaku would possess his body, becoming the story’s main villain. This would create a truly terrible situation: students forced to battle their former teacher, the very person who nurtured them, now their greatest foe. It would be a devastating psychological conflict, with Gojo’s powerful Six Eyes used for malicious purposes by the most evil character.
Yuta, Hakari, and Yuji would be devastated by the trial ahead. It wouldn’t just involve fighting a monster, but confronting someone they deeply admired. It would have been a more impactful ending if this new generation had to prove themselves by surpassing Gojo, essentially ending his era and forging their own.
2. Mahito
Mahito is essentially the embodiment of human hatred, making him Yuji’s ultimate foe. If he had returned during the previous storyline, fueled by the intense negativity of the Culling Game, he would have become an incredibly powerful cursed spirit. A battle between them would be deeply personal, a clash of understanding versus simple spite.
If he returned, it would highlight the endless cycle of hatred within the world of sorcery. Sukuna represents a dangerous past, while Mahito embodies the corruption of present-day humanity. The ideal conclusion would be a final battle to finally end this vengeful pattern and protect Yuji.
1. Kenjaku
From the very start of the story, Kenjaku has been the one pulling the strings behind every terrible event. He’s far more than just a strong sorcerer; he views humanity as a massive experiment, carefully guiding its evolution. It’s a tragic waste that a mind with a thousand years of foresight, someone who planned everything out, was ultimately defeated by a surprise attack.
The climactic battle against Kenjaku would have forced Yuji to confront his own origins and the person responsible for his creation. This would have shifted the focus from a purely physical fight to a battle of beliefs – a clash between someone who sees souls as disposable and a young man who values a meaningful end to life. Many believe this confrontation would have provided a more satisfying conclusion to the story than the fight with Sukuna.
