The following contains spoilers for the Demon Slayer manga.
The Demon Slayer anime has consistently introduced and focused on different characters to keep the story interesting. Initially, villains like Rui and Enmu, and heroes like Kyojuro Rengoku and Tengen Uzui, were central to the plot. Now, with the start of the final battle against Muzan, particularly with the Infinity Castle arc, fans are eager to find out which characters will be the most important in this final phase and who might have a smaller role.
I’m really excited about where Demon Slayer is going! While Tanjiro Kamado, Zenitsu Agatsuma, and even Akaza were huge focuses in the Infinity Castle arc, things are shifting now. It feels like Tanjiro will take a bit of a backseat for a while, and we’re going to see other characters really step up and become more important. Don’t get me wrong, I know Tanjiro will be essential when we finally get to the fight with Muzan in the next movie, but right now, it’s a great time to pay attention to the other amazing characters and see what roles they’ll play!
Doma is Daring Kanao to Avenge Her Hashira Mentor
No One Can Defeat the Upper Moon 2 Alone
With Akaza defeated, only a handful of the Upper Moon demons remain, and they’re all crucial to the current story arc in Demon Slayer. Tanjiro and his allies need to defeat each of these powerful demons before they can challenge Muzan himself, and they won’t go down without a fierce fight. One particularly unsettling foe is Doma, Upper Moon 2, who shocked and saddened fans when he killed and absorbed Shinobu during their battle.
Fans were hopeful that the Hashira would avoid the same fate as Kyojuro Rengoku after Muichiro and Mitsuri’s battle, but that hope has faded. Muzan’s remaining followers are incredibly powerful, and even a fight with two Hashira against one enemy seems unlikely to succeed. Nevertheless, someone must defeat Doma before the final battle with Muzan can begin. The next Demon Slayer movie will likely focus on a rematch against Doma, along with a similar intense battle against Kokushibo.
Kokushibo Looms as the Strongest Demon Serving Under Muzan
It Will Take Multiple Hashira to Vanquish the Upper Moon 1
image via studio UFOtable. Similar to the powerful Doma, Kokushibo, one of the Upper Rank Demons, presents a major challenge for the heroes as they try to reach Muzan. As you’d expect, Kokushibo will fiercely defend Muzan and fight against the Demon Slayers. Following typical shonen story patterns, this was always likely to happen. It makes sense that the Hashira won’t face Muzan directly until later – movie #3 – and that Kokushibo will be the main villain in movie #2.
We haven’t seen much of Kokushibo’s fighting style yet, but fans who only watch the anime are expecting great things. Given his high rank, the mark of a demon slayer he visibly possesses, and his combination of demonic power with a katana, he seems capable of defeating any opponent. Plus, his striking similarity to Yoriichi Tsugikuni suggests we’ll see a flashback revealing his past. Learning Kokushibo’s life story will likely unlock important details about the history of both demons and demon slayers, adding crucial pieces to the overall Demon Slayer story.
Kanao Tsuyuri is Finally About to Shine in Battle
Kanao Will Show Everyone What Flower Breathing Can Do
Image via studio UFOtable. Many characters in Demon Slayer haven’t had a chance to truly showcase their fighting abilities in the anime. Even most of the Hashira didn’t reveal their full power until later in the series, like Gyomei and Obanai who waited to demonstrate their breathing styles. Kanao Tsuyuri, a quiet student of Kanae and Shinobi Kocho, is in a similar situation. She hasn’t really fought yet, but now she has the opportunity to prove herself. She’s no longer holding back – she’s motivated to avenge a friend and mentor.

Fans of the Demon Slayer manga know Kanao is completely focused on defeating the demon who killed the Kocho sisters, and she’s willing to fight to the death to do so. The upcoming battle will pit Kanao against Doma, with Inosuke also involved, and Kanao will be the main focus. While viewers expect a lot from Inosuke, the outcome of this 2-on-1 fight will likely depend on Kanao’s Flower Breathing techniques, and the next movie will reveal how she fares.
Nakime Has a Unique Home Field Advantage in the Infinity Castle
Mitsuri and Obanai Aren’t Ready For an Opponent Like This
Image via studio UFOtable. Now that Kaigaku and Akaza have been defeated, only three Upper Rank Demons are left. Nakime is the lowest ranked of the three, and while she might not be as strong as Doma or Kokushibo, the Hashira would be smart to underestimate her. Nakime hasn’t spoken much or even fought yet in the Demon Slayer anime, which makes her upcoming battle even more anticipated.
Nakime has a special advantage fighting within Muzan’s Infinity Castle. She uses her musical instrument, the biwa, and other powers to completely change the castle’s structure. This allows her to defend against attacks or create sudden offensive moves by shifting walls, ceilings, and floors – making her a formidable opponent, even for powerful Hashira like Mitsuri and Obanai. Like Doma and Kokushibo, Nakime acts as a major barrier, preventing any demon slayer from reaching Muzan until she is defeated.
Gyomei Himejima is the Demon Slayer Corps’ Best Hope Against Kokushibo
The Stone Hashira is About to Pull His Weight in a Big Way
Image via studio UFOtable. Okay, so the Demon Moons have been taking a beating, but honestly, our Hashira have been through it too! That means for the next big fight – movie #2 – we’re not going to have all of them at full strength. A prime example is Gyomei Himejima, the Stone Hashira. He’s so much more than just a trainer! Sure, he helped Genya and Tanjiro master that incredible Repetitive Action technique, but now it’s time for him to really shine in battle – he’s a powerhouse, and I can’t wait to see him fight!
Kokushibo is the biggest threat standing between the heroes and Muzan, so someone capable of fighting him is crucial right now. As fans of the manga know, while Gyomei won’t face Kokushibo by himself, he’ll be the primary fighter, being the strongest of the Hashira. Thanks to Gyomei and Sanemi’s efforts, Kokushibo was nearly defeated, and during the battle, he came to a shocking realization about who he truly is.
Muichiro Tokito is the Key to Fighting Someone Like Kokushibo
Muichiro’s Blade Will Make All the Difference at a Critical Moment
Image via studio UFOtable. During the Swordsmith Village Arc, Muichiro Tokito, the Mist Hashira, played a vital role in defeating Gyokko, Upper Moon 5, and saving the village. His efforts also inspired the other Hashira to unlock their own demon slayer marks. While his involvement lessened in the next arc, where he simply helped train Tanjiro and his friends, Muichiro is now poised to become a central figure again.
As a huge fan of the Demon Slayer manga, I’m on the edge of my seat watching the fight against the Upper Moons! Everyone knows Muichiro’s about to pull something amazing, and while he can’t take down Kokushibo alone like he did with Gyokko, his special red blade is seriously changing the battle. It wasn’t enough to win the fight by itself, but it gave Gyomei and Sanemi the opening they needed to finally finish things. Honestly, I’m worried about Muichiro making it through, but even if he doesn’t, his impact on this fight will be legendary.
