This article contains spoilers for the One Piece series.
The story of One Piece is entering its final arc, meaning the Straw Hat crew is nearing its complete lineup. Currently, the crew consists of ten members: Luffy, Zoro, Nami, Usopp, Sanji, Chopper, Robin, Franky, Brook, and Jinbe. While already a large group, Luffy intends to add at least one more member, and possibly more, to his crew as they pursue their goal of becoming the Pirate King. Several characters are potential candidates to join the Straw Hats before the story concludes.
Nefertari Vivi
I’ve been watching One Piece for a while now, and it seems pretty clear to me that Nefertari Vivi, the princess of Arabasta, is destined to become a member of the Straw Hat Pirates eventually. It just feels like a given at this point in the story.
Vivi is, in effect, already a member of the Straw Hat Pirates. She stopped traveling with them after choosing to remain in Arabasta two years ago, which led to her becoming less involved. However, with her father, King Cobra, now deceased and the World Government – and Imu specifically – targeting her, Vivi can’t return home. The Straw Hat Pirates are now the only safe haven for her. Seeing Vivi rejoin the crew will be a truly amazing moment.
Jewelry Bonney
I first encountered Jewelry Bonney way back in the Sabaody Arc, when all the eleven Supernovas were introduced. Honestly, she didn’t really stand out at the time – she felt a little underdeveloped compared to the others. It was a long wait, over ten years in fact, before she finally started to play a bigger role in the story.
Jewelry Bonney has become a key player in the recent events of the story, especially since arriving at Egghead. She’s currently traveling with the Straw Hat Pirates, but doesn’t have a crew of her own or a clear destination. Interestingly, Oda has already shown Bonney wearing a hat resembling Luffy’s, and revealed in a Q&A that she feels secure around the Straw Hats, which helps her maintain her younger appearance more frequently.
Loki
Loki was introduced briefly during the Whole Cake Island arc, but his full role wasn’t revealed until the Elbaf arc. He’s now a key player in the main storyline of Elbaf, and fans are eager to find out what the author, Oda, has planned for him.
I’ve noticed Loki gaining a lot of fans as a potential member of the Straw Hat crew. It seems Luffy is already on board and has invited him to join! Plus, Loki doesn’t have many options right now – he’s disliked in Elbaf and, after being freed, the Straw Hats are really the only ones who would welcome him. I think he’d be a great addition to the team, honestly.
Vegapunk Lilith
Lilith is one of the six artificial beings created by the scientist Vegapunk. Each being represents a different aspect of his personality, and Lilith embodies his darker side. She’s unique because, along with York, she remains a separate, fully intact part of Vegapunk’s mind – the others have merged into a single body and are now with Haredes in Weatheria. Since the events on Egghead Island, Lilith has been traveling alongside the Straw Hat Pirates, and many fans speculate she might become a new member of their crew.
Lilith is a brilliant scientist, and the Straw Hat crew currently lacks anyone with her level of expertise. She could be incredibly valuable in improving their ship, the Sunny, upgrading weapons, or even helping to unlock the secrets of the Ancient Weapons. While she has the potential to join the crew, Lilith might also decide to stay on Elbaf once things settle down.
Manmayer Gunko
Gunko is a key villain in the current Elbaf arc of One Piece. She’s a Holy Knight named Saint Manmayer Gunko who came to Elbaf with Shamrock at the start of the arc. While already a powerful opponent, Gunko became even more dangerous when Imu took control of her body.
Although Gunko currently opposes the Straw Hat crew, she may eventually switch sides. This is likely due to a hidden connection between her and Brook that hasn’t been fully explained. Gunko doesn’t seem inherently malicious, and it appears she’s been manipulated by Imu. Her bond with Brook could potentially lead her to join the Straw Hats, and she would be a valuable ally – a strong fighter with inside knowledge of the World Government. After all, the Straw Hats have gained allies from their enemies before.
Yamato
A lot of fans expected Yamato to become a member of the Straw Hat Pirates during the Wano arc. Yamato directly asked Luffy to let them join, and it seemed likely they would sail with the crew as the next Oden until the very end of the story there.
Yamato ultimately decided to remain in Wano to defend it, which now frees them to pursue their original goal of setting sail. They might finally be able to catch up with the Straw Hat Pirates. As a very strong fighter with the rare ability of Conqueror’s Haki, Yamato would be a valuable asset in future adventures.
