In the past ten years, Attack on Titan has become recognized as one of the best anime series ever made. The show’s dark and captivating story, centered around Eren Yeager, has gained it a massive fanbase. Thanks to the consistently high quality of the series created by Isayama, Attack on Titan is sure to be remembered for many years to come.
Although Attack on Titan is a fantastic anime, it’s probably an exaggeration to call it the best ever. Everyone has different preferences when it comes to anime, and several other series could reasonably be considered superior.
One Piece
One Piece is widely considered one of the best anime and manga series ever created. While Attack on Titan has become very popular, it hasn’t reached the same level of long-term success as One Piece, which has been a cultural phenomenon for almost three decades.
I’ve been hooked on One Piece for the last 28 years, following Luffy’s incredible journey to become the Pirate King! What’s amazing is how the story really digs into big ideas like fighting against injustice and the importance of freedom. Honestly, I think it explores these themes even more powerfully than Attack on Titan does – it’s just a phenomenal series.
Hunter X Hunter
Hunter X Hunter is a highly influential shonen anime and manga, known for inspiring many popular series that followed. It’s widely considered to have exceptional writing, setting a high bar that few others have managed to reach.
The Chimera Ant arc in Hunter X Hunter is often compared to Attack on Titan, but it’s considered much better written. While it might seem a little less dark than Attack on Titan, Hunter X Hunter still has its share of intense and disturbing moments. What really sets it apart are the incredibly well-developed characters, the exciting power system, and the amazing fight scenes. Even the villains, like Meruem and Hisoka, are more complex and compelling than those in Attack on Titan.
Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood
Many anime fans believe Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood is the best anime ever made. While it isn’t completely flawless – like any show, it has a few minor issues – its overall consistency is remarkably strong.
Edward Elric’s journey to fix his brother has resonated with countless anime fans. For a long time, Fullmetal Alchemist was the top-rated series on MyAnimeList, though it’s no longer number one, it remains a truly exceptional anime and likely will for years to come.
Monster
Monster is a mature series about a brilliant surgeon who embarks on a dangerous personal quest: to kill the young boy he once saved with a critical operation.
Monster is a complex and thought-provoking series that explores moral issues, similar to Attack on Titan, but many consider it to be even more impactful. If you enjoyed the later parts of Attack on Titan, Monster is a series you shouldn’t miss.
Vinland Saga
Vinland Saga is widely considered a fantastic series. It centers on Thorfinn, a character driven by revenge after his father’s death. The story follows his path to rediscover himself and seek out Vinland, a mythical land he’s only known through stories.
Vinland Saga stands out for its incredible character development, especially with its main character, Thorfinn. Many appreciate the writing for Eren, but Thorfinn’s journey is arguably even more compelling.
Naruto

While not as grim as Attack on Titan, Naruto definitely has its share of intense moments. The series follows Naruto’s journey to become Hokage, and along the way, viewers enjoy incredible battles and memorable characters. Many fans consider Naruto’s story arcs to be exceptional, even better than those in Attack on Titan.
Attack on Titan is certainly popular and well-known, but it hasn’t reached the same level of cultural impact as Naruto.
Code Geass
Watching Code Geass felt like seeing something truly new in the mecha world. The story centers around Lelouch and his incredible revolution against the Empire. What makes it so unique is his ‘Geass’ ability – he can essentially control people just by giving them a direct order. It’s a really captivating premise.
Both Attack on Titan and Code Geass feature compelling protagonists, but many fans consider Lelouch from Code Geass to be the more well-developed character. This difference is especially noticeable in how their stories conclude. Lelouch’s ending is widely considered a masterpiece, while Eren’s ending has proven divisive. Overall, Code Geass maintains a consistently high quality, whereas Attack on Titan experiences some weaker moments along the way.
