Shonen anime are known for their thrilling action, and the Naruto series is a prime example. Naruto expertly combines a captivating story with memorable characters and incredibly well-choreographed fights built around a consistent set of rules. These battles have thrilled audiences worldwide. However, while Naruto excels at this, many other anime offer equally impressive, or even superior, action experiences.
Solo Leveling
- Animation Studio: A-1 Pictures
The new anime series, Solo Leveling, might not have the same cultural impact as a show like Naruto, but it truly shines when it comes to action. From beginning to end, the series is packed with thrilling fights that are visually stunning and keep viewers engaged. While these battles may not have the same emotional depth as those in Naruto, they are incredibly spectacular and exciting to watch.
I was absolutely blown away by the fight between Sung Jinwoo and the Ant King in Solo Leveling’s second season! It quickly became one of my all-time favorite anime battles, and honestly, the incredible animation just cemented the show’s place among the best when it comes to delivering epic fight scenes. It’s a visual masterpiece!
Dragon Ball
- Animation Studio: Toei Animation
Dragon Ball is famous for its thrilling battles, and it practically defined how action is portrayed in many shonen anime. From the start, the series has consistently delivered exciting fights that have become increasingly elaborate over the years. Iconic clashes like those between Goku and Vegeta, and Goku and Frieza, are just a few examples of the phenomenal fights the series offers.
While Dragon Ball’s story isn’t known for being complex, its action sequences are fantastic. Even the newer series, Dragon Ball Super, despite having a fairly simple plot, consistently delivers thrilling fights that fans love.
Demon Slayer
- Animation Studio: Ufotable
Demon Slayer is a hugely popular anime and manga series. Its movies have been incredibly successful, making it a dominant force in the anime world. The series consistently delivers exciting and well-choreographed fight scenes that are also emotionally impactful.
Recently, the anime Demon Slayer released the Infinity Castle movie, which included incredibly exciting fights – like Tanjiro and Giyu battling Akaza, and Shinobu facing off against Doma. As the story continues and even more intense battles are revealed, Demon Slayer‘s popularity is sure to grow.
Bleach
- Animation Studio: Studio Pierrot
While often considered the least popular of the major action anime (alongside Naruto and One Piece), Bleach consistently offers thrilling fight scenes. The series is particularly well-known for its complex power system, which fuels these impressive battles. Creator Tite Kubo consistently places characters like Aizen, Yhwach, and the main character, Ichigo Kurosaki, in challenging and exciting conflicts. A strong cast of villains further heightens the drama and contributes to the consistently high quality of the action throughout the series.

One Piece
- Animation Studio: Toei Animation
One Piece is the world’s most popular manga series and has remained at the top for over twenty years. As a shonen series, it features exciting battles, and while some may debate their quality, the emotional impact of each fight in One Piece is incredibly powerful – many consider it the strongest in all of anime.
Eiichiro Oda, the creator of the series, masterfully combines strong storytelling and well-developed characters into his action sequences – something few authors achieve. While the action itself is fantastic, the emotional impact of these fights truly sets them apart, even comparing favorably to those in Naruto. The anime adaptation by Toei Animation has further enhanced these battles, particularly in recent story arcs. These latest fights are some of the largest and most intense yet, and combined with stunning animation, they’ve been a real treat for fans of all ages.
