Fire and ice are popular elemental powers in anime, and they’re certainly exciting to watch. However, abilities based on darkness add a unique and powerful edge. Darkness powers have incredible potential, often making characters exceptionally strong and sometimes even overpowered. These abilities can take many forms – like controlling shadows or even creating black holes – but they’re consistently dangerous and impactful.

Yuki Tsukumo

Anime: Jujutsu Kaisen

Yuki Tsukumo is an incredibly powerful character in the Jujutsu Kaisen series. She’s one of just four known Special Grade Sorcerers, along with Gojo, Yuta, and Geto. During her battle with Kenjaku, Yuki demonstrated her full potential by pushing the Star Rage ability to its absolute maximum.

Yuki’s technique, Star Rage, lets her increase her body’s mass, allowing for devastatingly strong attacks. Though this power isn’t directly linked to darkness, her ultimate move, Black Hole, certainly is. When defeated, Yuki transforms into a Black Hole with the potential to obliterate the world. However, the full extent of this destruction hasn’t been shown, as the ability was halted just before it could happen.

Dabura Karaba

Anime: Jujutsu Kaisen

Dabura Karaba served as the primary villain in the Jujutsu Kaisen: Modulo series, a sequel to Jujutsu Kaisen. He’s a very powerful member of the Deskunte tribe and is considered the strongest Simurian.

In Jujutsu Kaisen: Modulo, Dabura fought in a huge battle that would determine the fate of all life on Earth. The Simurians selected Dabura Karaba as their champion, but Japan couldn’t find Yuji Itadori and had to send Yuka Okkotsu instead. Using her Ten Shadows technique, Yuka forced Dabura to face Mahoraga, a tremendously powerful divine general. During the intense fight, Dabura initially used a powerful ability called light. However, after figuring out how Cursed Technique Reversal worked, he learned to channel positive energy into his light, transforming it into Darkness. This allowed him to summon and utilize darkness in combat. While the full extent of his darkness powers wasn’t shown, combined with his other skills, he ultimately defeated Mahoraga.

If you ask me who the coolest darkness user in anime is, I instantly think of Yami from Black Clover! As the captain of the Black Bulls, he’s become a real fan favorite, and for good reason. It’s not just his awesome personality, but his dark magic is seriously impressive. He’s a key player in the whole series and has been involved in some truly epic fights. Honestly, Yami just stands out.

I’ve noticed that Dark Magic seems pretty uncommon in Black Clover. Basically, it’s the complete opposite of light magic. While it’s not very fast, it has this incredible ability to absorb other types of magic. We see Yami using it to cut through almost anything, and it gives him some of the most powerful offensive capabilities in the whole series, honestly.
