Summary
- Transpose boss Souls in Dark Souls 3 for powerful spells like the Lifehunt Scythe or Old Moonlight.
- Defeat tough bosses like Darkeater Midir and the Demon Prince to obtain valuable spells.
- Choose wisely between transposing boss Souls for equipable items or powerful sorceries.
Many fans of the series believe that Dark Souls 3 is the finest entry in the trilogy due to its enhanced visuals compared to its prequels, an exceptional assortment of challenging bosses, and a variety of robust weapon options for players to utilize effectively.
During gameplay, players will face a decision to convert a boss’s soul into either a potent weapon or an impressive spell. Although one option may be superior in certain situations, other times the opposite is true for maximum effectiveness. Here are some boss souls in Dark Souls 3 that work best when turned into spells instead.
7. Soul of Aldrich
Lifehunt Scythe

HP | 4,727 |
Location | Anor Londo |
The Lifehunt Scythe is an impressive ability that gamers can acquire by overcoming Aldrich, the Eater of Gods, located in Anor Londo. Since Aldrich is a challenging boss and essential for progressing through the game’s storyline, players will encounter him regardless, so they might as well prepare to face him.
After retrieving Aldrich’s Soul, players have the option to visit Ludleth of Courland at the Firelink Shrine to swap it for either the Lifehunt Scythe or the Darkmoon Longbow, both effective weapons but the Miracle outperforms them. Alternatively, the Soul can be used to gain 15,000 Souls, though this may not be beneficial at the stage where Aldrich is fought. Players experiencing difficulty defeating this boss might find success by using fire against him since he’s vulnerable to that element.
6. Soul Of Darkeater Midir
Old Moonlight

HP | 15,860 |
Location | The Ringed City |
Defeating the formidable boss, Darkeater Midir, in the Ringed City DLC, rewards players with the potent Old Moonlight Sorcery. Known for his immense difficulty, Midir poses a challenge due to his colossal size, unusual speed given his weight, and lethal area-of-effect (AoE) and special attacks that can swiftly eliminate the Ashen One.
Unlike many other bosses who are vulnerable to frostbite, Midir is resistant to it. However, players can defeat him more swiftly by using the Thrust attack or the Pestilent Mist Sorcery instead.
5. Soul Of A Stray Demon
Boulder Heave

HP | 2,004 |
Location | Farron Keep |
In the fortress known as Farron Keep, you’ll encounter a wandering demon that doesn’t boast immense power. Despite its lack of strength, encounters with this creature early in the game can prove tricky due to its abilities. Not just its attacks, but also its capacity to seize the Ashen One and hurl them aside, potentially causing a fatal fall.
By switching its essence, players have the chance to obtain either Havel’s Ring, ideal for Strength-focused characters, or Boulder Heave Pyromancy, which becomes quite handy when confronting multiple enemies during that specific stage of the game. Players finding it tough to conquer this minor boss might consider using some top-tier weapons in Dark Souls 3, coupled with a Quality build, as this combination can significantly simplify the battle.
4. Soul Of The Demon Prince
Seething Chaos

HP | 7,045 |
Location | Dreg Heap |
The Demon Prince from the The Ringed City DLC isn’t as difficult as Darkeater Midir, but it’s no walk in the park either. This formidable boss is incredibly powerful and players need to overcome not just the Demon Prince itself, but also its minions: Demon in Pain and Demon From Below. These enemies can drain a player’s Estus Flask charges before they even confront the main challenge, making it a tough battle indeed.
As a devoted fan, I’m excited to share that upon vanquishing the Demon Prince, players will be faced with an intriguing decision: they can either transpose its soul for the formidable Demon’s Scar weapon, or opt for the potent Seething Chaos Pyromancy, which is arguably the superior option. Keep in mind that, despite its imposing size, the Demon Prince is one of the swiftest bosses in Dark Souls 3, so players should tread carefully during this encounter.
3. Soul Of The Lords
Sunlight Spear

HP | 10,766 |
Location | Kiln of the First Flame |
During their gameplay in Dark Souls 3, players will encounter the ultimate hurdle: vanquishing the Soul of Cinder within the Kiln of the First Flame. This formidable boss is equipped with unexpected tactics and a variety of weapons, ensuring an unforgettable battle experience for the players.
Similar to Gwyn in the initial Dark Souls game, the Soul of Cinder boss may not be the most challenging boss in the entire game, but it is still the final one. Overcoming it will provide players with the Soul of the Lords, which can be either consumed for 20,000 Souls or traded to obtain the Sunlight Spear Miracle or the Firelink Greatsword. Although the Soul of Cinder isn’t as swift as other bosses, it also doesn’t rank among the slowest in Dark Souls 3, so players should approach it with keen and nimble reactions to secure victory.
2. Soul Of Consumed Oceiros
White Dragon Breath

HP | 8,087 |
Location | Consumed King’s Garden |
The tale of King Oceiros, the Consumed, is a sad one, but players can learn about his history through his conversations and encounters during the boss battle. Initially, he’s not hard to beat, but when half his health is gone, he transforms into a beast-like form, becoming more dangerous and faster. So, players should look for any assistance they can find to overcome him.
Once the battle has ended, victorious players will receive the Soul of Oceiros Consumed, a prize that can be transformed into either the Moonlight Greatsword or the White Dragon Breath. While both options are strong, individuals aiming to build a spellcasting-centric character might prefer the White Dragon Breath Sorcery.
1. Soul Of The Old Demon King
Chaos Bed Vestiges

HP | 5,301 |
Location | Smouldering Lake |
1) To wrap it up, there’s the ancient Demon King residing by the Seething Lake – this location is discretionary and can slip under players’ radar if they don’t know how to find it. The journey is filled with numerous obstacles, such as a colossal ballista that will constantly harass players, and the Carthus Sandworm that must be vanquished to secure one of the many Undead Bone shards within the game.
Following the conquest of the Ancient Demon Ruler, players will acquire the Soul of the Old Demon King that needs to be infused into the Pyromancy Embers from Chaos Bed.
