Seven games have been postponed following the announcement of the release date for Hollow Knight: Silksong, a highly anticipated game in recent times. Given its significant popularity, it’s not surprising that other developers and publishers might choose to adjust their schedules to avoid clashing with this much-anticipated title.
Following approximately seven years in development and numerous quips about donning clown makeup within its fanbase, the long-awaited game Hollow Knight: Silksong is set for release on September 4. The unexpected announcement has led some independent developers to adjust their launch schedules as well, with a few studios already deciding to postpone their games.
Games Delayed Due to Hollow Knight: Silksong’s Release
Due to the release of the game “Silksong” on September 4, seven other titles have faced delays: “Aeterna Lucis”, “Baby Steps”, “CloverPit”, “Demonschool”, “Faeland”, “Little Witch in the Woods”, and “Megabonk”. The series of delays began with “Faeland”. Following Team Cherry’s announcement, developer Talegames decided to postpone the launch of their RPG-inspired retro game from September 9 to an unspecified date to avoid competing with “Silksong”. The action adventure game “Aeterna Lucis” found itself in a challenging position due to its similar genre as “Silksong”, leading to a delay until 2026, with the developers citing the lack of a Switch 2 development kit and competition from “Silksong” as the reasons for the postponement.
- Aeterna Lucis
- Baby Steps
- CloverPit
- Demonschool
- Faeland
- Little Witch in the Woods
- Megabonk
The game titled CloverPit, a roguelike slot machine creation by Panik Arcade and Future Friends Games, was initially delayed due to the highly anticipated release of Silksong. It is now set for launch on September 26.
Likewise, Megabonk, an action-packed roguelike survival game, has decided to debut on September 18 in order to steer clear of the same delay issue.
Moreover, Demonschool – a tactics RPG with Persona influences – will be pushed back to November 19 in order to avoid being eclipsed by the market’s enthusiasm for Hollow Knight: Silksong’s release.
More currently, “Baby Steps” and “Witch in the Woods,” initially scheduled for launch around the same time as “Hollow Knight: Silksong,” have been pushed back. “Baby Steps” is now set for September 23 due to the game’s protagonist, Nate, being humorously labeled as “allergic to hornets” by developers. “Witch in the Woods,” originally slated for September 15 alongside “Silksong,” has been moved to avoid potential competition. Although it’s disappointing to see these games delayed, it appears that ensuring a clear distinction from “Hollow Knight: Silksong” may benefit them, given its highly anticipated release and the surge in popularity it caused for the original “Hollow Knight.” The gaming market of 2025 seems challenging enough to warrant cautiousness.
