Summary
- Red Dead Redemption 2 is considered the best game from Rockstar due to complexity, items, and open world exploration.
- Hunting chipmunks with Small Game Arrows poses a unique challenge in RDR2.
- Legendary animals like Elk and Grizzly Bear provide high rewards but require caution and specific hunting techniques.
Although Grand Theft Auto 5 remains the largest source of income for Rockstar Games, many players agree that Red Dead Redemption 2 is the best title the developer has ever released. This is mainly due to how complex the game is, how many items there are to sell and buy, and the main and side missions available, as well as the enormous open-world players can explore.
Red Dead Redemption 2 is so vast that it’s easy for newcomers to make mistakes during their first playthrough. However, even then, it still provides an outstanding experience through its combat and hunting mechanics. Here are some of the hardest animals to hunt in Red Dead Redemption 2.
7. Chipmunks
They’re Small, Quick, And Require Small Game Arrows

- Small and quick
- Players must use Small Game Arrows to get a good pelt
Despite chipmunks not posing an immediate danger to Arthur, they can prove tricky to capture on account of their tiny stature and swift escape reflexes. While locating them isn’t particularly hard, obtaining a good-quality pelt from them is where the real challenge lies.
To do so, players will have to forego the use of firearms and other high-damage weapons, and instead opt for Small Game Arrows, which, in and of itself, raises the difficulty, as they don’t work as efficiently as guns and rifles.
6. Rabbits
Extremely Hard To Spot In The Folliage

- Tiny and quick
- Players must use the Varmint Rifle to get Perfect Rabbit Pelts
To earn various ranks as a Master Hunter, players must gather three flawless Rabbit Hides by concealing themselves among the foliage and tracking down elusive rabbits.
To make matters worse, one of the only ways to get a Perfect Rabbit Pelt is to use a Varmint Rifle and shoot the rabbits in the head, which can be extremely difficult due to their small size and quickness—even if players are using Dead Eye. Some hunting approaches, like throwing dynamite into a pond to fish, can give Arthur Low Honor, but hunting rabbits with a Varmint Rifle is, arguably, quite humane.
5. Legendary Elk
Their Massive Size Makes Them Very Resistant

- Considerable size
- Stealth is required
In the game “Red Dead Redemption 2,” you can find one of the rarest animals, known as the Legendary Elk. This elk is unique because it has white fur and a shaggy mane. After successfully hunting this animal, players are rewarded with several crafting materials: the Elk Antler Trinket, Legendary Elk Moccasins, Legendary Elk Half Chaps, and the Legendary Elk Range Gloves. These items complement the Ghost Bison Outfit particularly well.
Even though the Legendary Elk is quite large, it’s rather skittish, so players should move cautiously. On a positive note, legendary creatures always provide top-quality pelts, allowing players to utilize any weapon at their disposal. This gives players the option to go all out with one of the finest knives from Red Dead Redemption 2, although it might not be the most effective choice.
4. Legendary Bullgator
Extremely Dangerous, Especially In Their Turf

- Extremely deadly
- It’s first encountered in the “Country Pursuits mission”
The Legendary Bullgator, otherwise known as Lacartus, is a very rare species in the game. It’s first seen in the “Country Pursuits mission”, where it attacks the boat Jules was in, leaving him stranded in the swamp. This ferocious animal even goes to the point of attacking Jules as he tries to swim to the boat Arthur, Dutch and Thomas are in, but luckily, Arthur manages to rescue him before he becomes the Bullgator’s meal.
The Legendary Bullgator can be extremely deadly, so players must hunt it down with caution to avoid perishing in their quest. The area where this animal is first encountered is near a small settlement full of shacks, some of which are important for players to find in order to search them and obtain a few valuables.
3. Legendary Bharati Grizzly Bear
Ferocious And Enormous, A Deadly Combination

- Larger than other bears in the wilderness
- Players can get the components for the Bear Claw Talisman from it
The Legendary Bharati Grizzly Bear is also a rarity in the game’s depiction of the American Wild West, and it appears in the mission “Exit Pursued by a Bruised Ego”. Being considerably larger than other bears in the game, this animal is extremely dangerous and can kill Arthur without a second thought, so proceeding with caution when hunting it down is key.
Once the Legendary Bharati Grizzly Bear has been slain, players will get the components for the Bear Claw Talisman and the Bear Hunter outfit set. As opposed to other aspects of the game, Arthur having High Honor does not affect anything in this mission, so players can walk into this formidable encounter without having to worry about their past deeds thus far.
2. Legendary Cougar
Extreme Speed, Combined With Sharp Claws

- Extremely dangerous and quick
- Found in the western section of New Austin
In Red Dead Redemption 2, numerous gamers find that Cougars are among the most challenging creatures to hunt due to their inherent danger. The difficulty level spikes even higher when players attempt to bag the Legendary Cougar. Like other Legendary beasts in the game, this elusive feline is not only scarce but can easily take down Arthur with just a few attacks.
Defeating the legendary cougar in Gaptooth Ridge will grant players the legendary cougar pelt, fang, and carcass as rewards. This elusive beast resides primarily in the western region of New Austin.
1. Legendary Giaguaro Panther
Very Rare And Requires A Ton Of Patience

- Located southeast of Bolger Glade
- Players must be Master Hunter Rank 9 for it to appear
The Legendary Giaguaro Panther can be found in Scarlett Meadows, located south of the center of Lemoyne. Its exact location is southeast of Bolger Glade. By successfully hunting it down, players will obtain three valuable items: the Legendary Panther Fur, the Legendary Panther Eye, and the Legendary Panther Carcass.
Players must be a Master Hunter Rank 9 to hunt the Legendary Giguaro Panther down, as it otherwise won’t appear. Hunting it down is also a requirement to reach Master Hunter Rank 10. Red Dead Redemption 2 has many complexities beyond animal hunting, including tough moral decisions and a lot of tragedies, some of which could explain why Dutch becomes evil in the end.
