Summary

  • Dead by Daylight unveiled Five Nights at Freddy’s Springtrap, with Matthew Lillard providing voice-over for the skin, arriving in June 2025.

The ninth anniversary livestream for “Dead by Daylight” officially announced the addition of Five Nights at Freddy’s Springtrap as a new Killer character, expected to join the game in June 2025. Notably, Matthew Lillard, who played William Afton (Springtrap) in the live-action movie, will be providing the voice for the iconic Springtrap skin, which will reflect Lillard’s performance.

Given the release of a new chapter in the Five Nights at Freddy’s series, fans have been actively discussing which characters from licensed horror franchises might be joining the Dead by Daylight lineup next. Behaviour Interactive has already introduced Springtrap, but there are still numerous other iconic horror series that could make for fearsome additions to The Entity’s domain.

1. The Conjuring

A Good Way To Close the Chapter On Ed and Lorraine Warren

This autumn, I’m thrilled to witness the culmination of the incredible tale of Ed and Lorraine Warren within The Conjuring Universe. The fourth chapter unfolds their last case: the chilling 1986 haunting of the Smurl family in West Pittston, Pennsylvania, which was first introduced in 2013’s The Conjuring. Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga brought these iconic paranormal investigators to life three years before the launch of Dead by Daylight, and ever since, fans like myself have been eagerly waiting to see more of the Warrens and the formidable demon Valak in the game.

Ed and Lorraine are highly requested due to their significant roles in horror folklore. A chapter focused on The Conjuring Universe could also explore other villains aside from Valak. For instance, The Crooked Man might be included among the available character skins. However, if Behaviour wished to add more depth, characters like Sister Irene and Frenchie from “The Nun” could be potential character options for Ed and Lorraine.

2. Friday the 13th

A Free-For-All For Franchise Rights Puts Tommy And Jason Up For Grabs

In 2016, a legal dispute over licensing rights between Victor Miller and Sean S. Cunningham (the writer and director of the original 1980 “Friday the 13th” film) halted the release of all related content. This issue was finally resolved in 2021 when the franchise’s rights were granted to Miller. Unfortunately, as Gun Media’s license had expired, they had to shut down the servers for “Friday the 13th: The Game” permanently at the end of 2024. Since then, the franchise has been struggling due to this legal battle slowing down any new movie projects in development.

Due to the court’s decision that Miller holds the rights to Friday the 13th in the U.S., Behaviour Interactive needs permission from Miller to include Jason in Dead by Daylight. However, since the introduction of Michael Myers, Ghostface, and Leatherface, Jason has been the only one among the original (and arguably best) slasher villains who hasn’t been included yet. It would make sense for Tommy Jarvis to be the Survivor character paired with him. Alternatively, adding Pamela Voorhees as a skin for Jason could give him a unique touch as a standalone Killer.

3. Slender Man

The Killer Roster Is Severely Lacking Creepypasta Legends

In essence, Dead by Daylight doesn’t rely excessively on stories that originated from the internet like Slender Man and others, which are known as creepypastas. These tales first appeared on an imageboard called 4chan in the late 2000s. Nevertheless, Slender Man is one of the more recognized modern-day supernatural entities along with Jeff the Killer, The Rake, and Ben Drowned. The 2018 movie aimed to reintroduce Slender Man to a contemporary audience, but it didn’t capture the character effectively. Now, Dead by Daylight has an opportunity to revitalize the popular yet underutilized creepypasta.

It might be more logical to present the character of Slender Man solely as an antagonist in a separate chapter, given that he doesn’t have a fixed counterpart within any single protagonist. The characters who have reported encounters with him serve as witnesses rather than traditional survivors, and these accounts differ depending on the specific instance.

4. It

Chapter Two Presents The Opportunity To Add The Loser Club

In the game “Dead by Daylight,” there’s an existing character that shares a similar theme as Pennywise, but it’s clear The Clown doesn’t have the same draw as other killers, especially those based on licensed characters. Tim Curry’s portrayal of Pennywise might be too extravagant for a character meant to instill fear. On the other hand, Bill SkarsgÃ¥rd’s performance would blend seamlessly with the horde of monsters, particularly given the glimpses of his terrifying true form in “It Chapter Two.

In the game Dead by Daylight, it appears they prefer not to feature minors as Survivors. Instead, in the Stranger Things chapter, they chose Steve and Nancy over Mike and Eleven to battle with the Demogorgon. On the other hand, It Chapter Two occurs 27 years after the initial It. By this time, the Losers Club have grown up, holding jobs, families, and personal lives. This maturity makes them suitable candidates to appear as Survivors alongside Pennywise, with Bill and Bev being notable examples. The other members of the Losers Club could be incorporated as alternative skins for those main characters.

5. The Candyman

A Great Way To Honor Tony Todd

2024 sadly marked the passing of the legendary horror icon, Tony Todd, following the completion of “Final Destination: Bloodlines,” his final on-screen appearance, which was subsequently dedicated in his honor. Known for his unforgettable roles within the “Final Destination” series and as the chilling Candyman himself, he graced our screens alongside the talented Virginia Madsen, who portrayed Helen Lyle, a graduate student drawn into the world of the Candyman during her research on Chicago’s housing projects.

In the game Dead by Daylight, while some Killers’ racial identities are not clearly defined, The Doctor was the first to represent an African-American character. More recently, the Houndmaster was introduced, hailing from Caribbean origins. However, overall, the Killer roster could benefit from more diversity. For a Survivor, Helen Lyle is a strong candidate, but Anthony McCoy from the 2021 sequel could also make a suitable choice.

6. Left 4 Dead 2

Fans Are Campaigning For The Sequel’s Beloved Protagonists

In the initial chapter of Dead by Daylight, titled “Left Behind”, we encounter William “Bill” Overbeck, a character hailing from the original Left 4 Dead video game. Bill was the sole representative of the franchise introduced into this new game, leaving fans hoping for more from the sequel, Left 4 Dead 2, and its well-liked group of protagonists. Surprisingly, no Killer was paired with Bill, despite a variety of Infected characters to choose from. The Witch stands as one of the toughest adversaries, but her appearance is too similar to The Hag. Options like Boomers, Hunters, and Jockeys are available, but it would be wiser to debut Survivors independently.

In the game ‘Left 4 Dead’, most of the infected characters don’t meet the criteria to be compelling Killers. However, in ‘Left 4 Dead 2’, the heroes – Coach, Rochelle, Nick, and Ellis – are highly popular among the active community. They offer more diversity for players compared to Bill, even though the extra skins for Bill can be quite enticing by themselves.

7. Terrifier

Art And Sienna Have Never Been More Popular

The horror franchise created by Damien Leone, known as “Terrifier,” took off with its initial movie, “All Hallow’s Eve,” surprising audiences with its success. This led to a standalone release of “Terrifier” featuring David Howard Thornton as the chilling character, Art the Clown. In 2022 and then 2024, Leone continued the story of Art with “Terrifier 2” and “Terrifier 3.” These films also introduced Sienna Shaw and Jonathan Shaw, a brother-sister duo whose father had eerie visions of Art. If Behaviour were to consider venturing down the “Terrifier” path, Art and Sienna would make an exceptional pair for a full-length chapter. Similar to how Pennywise might be avoided due to potential overshadowing, The Clown could face a similar concern, but if they move forward, Art and Sienna would be ideal leads.

Jonathan might be an optional extra skin for Sienna, but she’s quite self-contained as a compelling main character. Introducing a skin featuring Vicky (Victoria Heyes) could add depth to the character of Art instead.
