7 Rarest Pokemon Ever

7 Rarest Pokemon Ever

Highlights

  • Jirachi, a mythical Pokemon released in Gen 3, was only available through events until the Gen 4 remake.
  • Manaphy, another rare Pokemon, was mainly obtainable through events or transferred from Pokemon Ranger.
  • Players had one chance to obtain the elusive Zarude Pokemon at select stores during a specific event.

As someone who has been a dedicated Pokémon fan for over two decades now, I can confidently say that these rare Pokémon have given me quite the challenge! The quest to catch ’em all always seems to lead me back to these elusive creatures that only appear during specific events or require Herculean tasks.

In the world of Pokémon, numerous Pokémon have proven to be elusive for trainers due to their rarity. This rarity can stem from factors such as low encounter rates and limited appearances across various games, making certain Pokémon particularly hard to catch.

As a devoted Pokémon fan, I always consider the authentic ways to catch these incredible creatures when they appear in the mainline games. Sure, there are shortcuts like cheats or special spin-off titles, but those methods don’t quite compare to the satisfaction of earning them legitimately within the core games.

7 Jirachi

Only Available Through Events Until Gen 4 Remake

In Generation 3, Jirachi is a legendary Pokemon. However, Pokemon fans in North America could acquire it only if they owned a promotional disc for Pokemon Colosseum. This special disc offered a sneak peek of the game and showcased Jirachi’s unique move called “Jirachi: Wish Maker.” On the other hand, players in Europe were given an opportunity to catch this Pokemon through the Pokemon Channel. Lastly, Japanese and Taiwanese trainers could get hold of Jirachi via a special event.

Ever since those incidents, Jirachi has been scarcely available. In fact, it was almost unattainable legitimately within the main series games until the release of Pokemon Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl. However, with these remakes, players who had saved data from Pokemon Let’s Go Pikachu and Let’s Go Eevee could acquire one in Floarmoa Town.

6 Manaphy

Available Via Pokemon Ranger Or Event

Manaphy primarily entered the main series games by being moved over from Pokemon Ranger. Yet, since this discussion excludes spin-offs, the only method to acquire Manaphy was attending special events. In countries like the United States, Japan, Australia, and South Korea, fans could visit specific locations to obtain this Pokemon.

Arceus after acquiring Mantyke, Buizel, and Overqwil, there’s no other known way to get Manaphy.

5 Victini

Caught Through Events Or Liberty Garden

Among the mythical Pokémon gracing this list is Victini, which debuted during Generation 5. Over the years, players have had limited chances to catch this Pokémon in the main series games. In the games Pokemon Black and White, as well as their sequels Pokemon Black 2 and White 2, Victini was obtainable through various events, some held in-person and others online.

The Pokemon became accessible again during the 2022 Pokemon World Championships in London. Participants were able to use a code displayed on the live stream of the event within the games “Pokemon Sword & Shield”. This code allowed them to obtain the Pokemon, but it was only functional from August 18 to August 22, 2022. After this period, the code was no longer usable.

4 Marshadow

Obtained Through Few Events

Marshadow is a mythical Pokémon introduced during the 7th generation of the games. It was initially accessible through certain events during the “Pokémon Sun & Moon” and “Pokémon Ultra Sun & Ultra Moon,” but only for a specific period. This scarcity made it very challenging to acquire because the events were region-specific, meaning each player had just one opportunity per game in their respective regions.

Upon the debut of “Pokemon Sword & Shield,” certain Pokemon could be obtained at specific times through codes distributed at stores across different regions. Unfortunately, if players didn’t manage to get it during that window, they were out of luck. Fortunately, this rare Pokemon has resurfaced in Pokemon GO, although it’s not one of the main series games. This particular Pokemon is indeed quite hard to come by.

3 Celebi

Event Only Pokemon

As a dedicated Pokemon trainer with over two decades of experience, I can confidently say that Celebi is one of the rarest and most sought-after Pokemon out there. Having grown up in the era when Pokemon first burst onto the scene, I vividly remember the excitement and anticipation surrounding each new generation, eagerly awaiting to catch ’em all. However, even among the mythical creatures that have been introduced over the years, Celebi stands out as a true enigma.

To obtain this specific Pokémon outside Japan through standard games, the only available method was by using Pokémon Bank between December 25, 2013, and September 30, 2014, followed by a transfer to their mainline games. However, Celebi has occasionally been featured in Pokémon GO events, enabling many players to move it from Pokémon Home into more contemporary games.

2 Zarude

Only Available During A Sword & Shield Event

Zarude is a freshly introduced Mythical Pokemon that debuted during the eighth generation of video games. Compared to other Pokemon on the list, it has fewer associated events because of its newer status, which means players have only had one legitimate chance to capture this Pokemon in the main series games, making it quite elusive and hard to come by.

As a dedicated Pokemon trainer with years of gaming under my belt, I can tell you that there are few experiences more frustrating than missing out on a rare Pokemon. Back in the day, one such elusive creature was distributed exclusively through codes given at certain stores across my region. Unfortunately for me and many others, those codes disappeared just as quickly as they appeared, leaving us with only a fleeting opportunity to catch this extraordinary Pokemon. Since then, it has remained unobtainable for mainline game players like myself, which is a real shame considering the joy it could have brought to our adventures. Nowadays, I can still encounter it in Pokemon GO, but that’s not quite the same as catching it in one of the classic games I grew up with.

1 The Original Magearna

Register Every Pokemon Into Pokemon Home

Magearna’s initial color scheme is red and white, similar to a Pokeball, making it hard to get among all Pokemon games, whether they’re mainline or spin-offs. Unlike its entirely white counterpart, which was obtainable in Pokemon Sun & Moon, as well as Pokemon Ultra Sun & Ultra Moon via events, the original red and white Magearna wasn’t accessible through these methods.

To acquire this specific version of Magearna legally, you must complete the National Pokedex in Pokemon Home, reaching Eternatus (#890) and collecting every Mythical Pokemon up to Melmetal (#809). Given that players must obtain all these Pokemon, including the challenging ones mentioned, it’s not surprising that only a select few have managed to get Magearna legitimately.
